Worked out great for you. Most don’t take the time to think the problem through. You can’t be in a hurry. Any job is possible. Great mechanics know how to use what they have. Sacrificing the sockets for a jig was a great idea. Weld was fine…it didn’t break.
this somehow happened on my mustang while it was running and it died out i just found out thats what it wsa took me quite a bit of time. now to try and get the broken bolt out
You wire needs to be right at the tip, not sticking outside at all. Also your welder is chopping, it should make a nice smooth noise. Make sure your tank is at about 15psi for argon/co2. I would have drilled it. Last, plese keep your fingers away from the cutting wheel.
