Here in the UK it's more common to hang your washing outside though I live in a flat I'm lucky that my housing association provides an outdoor space to hang my wash out . My rule is if the ground is dry an not damp out my wash goes out on the line , I also started doing my wash in cold setting rather than a hot .

Tessie My home is almost 100 years old. The stove has its quirks and you can not use the toaster and microwave at they same time but it is workable. I don’t need new things and I get upset because appliances do not last like they used to. My husband is a morning person and I am an afternoon person. The cat sleeps at day and is ready to jump and play when we go to bed. Thank you for sharing your life and activities. I can see that you are genuinely happy. How many people can say that?

I have an idea for you! The washer that does not spin is a good thing to have. What you can do is start the one that completely works and start it first. Then start the one that does not spin. Once the first one is done, put the second load in the one that works and just put it on a spin cycle to get all the water out of the clothes. Or you could look for an old wringer at a thrift shop and wring them out that way. I have done both.

Hi Tessie, FYI, went to Walmart today and was looking for little plants to start my container garden. They want 4.98 for one red pepper plant. I think that is outrageous!!! Went off to my local library and found out that they give free pkgs of seeds. Well, I’m going to read up on growing my own from seeds. You inspire me!!! Thank you friend.❤️❤️❤️❤️
@HomesteadTessie
@HomesteadTessie Год назад
keep watching I'm going to be sharing with you how you can go to the grocery store for $2.00 You can get some herbs that are fresh and then you can root them causing many plants for pennies on the dollar
@kesmarn
@kesmarn Год назад
Wow! Basically $5 for one pepper plant! That's terrible. Last year I did manage to grow some pepper plants from seeds taken from a bell pepper I ate that had a nice flavor. Actually got a few (small) peppers by the end of the growing season. I'll try to get an earlier start this year.

Tessie I have the same tote you have that you showed when doing laundry and I need to know how do you keep the inside clean? Maybe I made the mistake of using it as a laundry basket. Thankfully where we live we can have clotheslines, some communities do not allow them.
@chrisd8795
@chrisd8795 Год назад
Tessie, I recently watched a YT video on off grid laundry. She used a mop bucket with a wringer to squeeze the water from the clothes. This is at the top of my list to purchase. I always hang my laundry on the line as long as the weather permits. You would not believe the comments from family and friends, but I just laugh and keep saving $$$ on the electric bill. Plus the extended life of our clothing. Most complain about how stiff the clothes are, but I ❤ it, because they fold nicer and towels absorb water better if line dried. It’s a personal choice but one I love. Makes me feel connected to the past, which is a blessing.
@alisonwilson6833
@alisonwilson6833 Год назад
I'd be very tempted to tell them to keep their noses out of my business and their critical opinions to themselves🤪! You're definitely being a V sensible steward of your resources and I completely agree with you about it being far better for the fabrics and the environment as well as saving money. The suggestion of a mop bucket as an alternative to wring out water is a good idea. Keep doing what you know is wise in spite of the cheeky critics.

I use racks from the Goidwill and free by the side of the road to dry our clothes. They come rough because of our hard water fabric softeners don't help nor does vinegar I gey free humidity in the winter for our mobile home. Last month when it was still below freezing. We wen't to Home Depot to look for electric heaters Home Depot didn't have any , but a nice young man directed to Target just down the other end of the parking lot We found small space heaters to keep warm My husband worked on the furnace little by little and even replaced the old thermostatThank-the Lord , my husband is ver handy. For less than the price of a technician coming to check it out. We are now cozy and warmand readyfor next fall's heating season

I have one of those mobile/portable washing machines Tessie. I have the blue one. It is so handy to get all the washing done in one go. I do the whites first, then I can use the same water to do the dark wash. My Mother always used a twin tub and so when I found one of the blue mobile machines I had to have it. And the best thing is that my electric bill has reduced slightly too as I dont have an electric washing machine going for up to an hour per wash. 15 mins per load is generally what I use.

I have a feeling you slept *really* soundly after that laundry marathon, Tessie! But you must also have felt sooo good with all that clean, wonderful-smelling washing accomplished. For just a minute there I found myself thinking: "Hmmmm.... Laundromat??" But then I also thought about the cost of taking those 8 loads to a commercial place, as opposed to the cost for what you did on this day (which would have been roughly zero!) Then it became a pretty easy decision to make. The hardest part is getting all your equipment outside, along with the laundry, on a frosty day and pushing on through until the job is done! (But you don't need anyone else to tell you that!) Congratulations on having the courage to do a hard job. And I'm truly hoping that this is the *only* time you have to do laundry under these conditions. "Attention, Spring! You may now officially begin!" 😀

I hardly ever use a dryer anymore. Clothing lasts so much longer when you hang dry it.

No line drying allowed in my development - moved here and never had heard of such a thing! I have a rolling rack in the house, but it doesn't hold as much as a line would have. I admire all the hard work you do.

I am not a morning person Tessie. I don't really start to feel awake until after noon. I can stay up until 2am or so. We also hang our clothes, and have been doing this for years❤️

Hello Tessie, It sure looks nice warm on your property (until you mentioned how cold it was Brrr! lol) to be able to go out and do your clothe washing chores outdoors. I dry some of my clothes in winter outside on my veranda on a clothes rack and in the summer on my clothes line. I also love the smell of fresh outdoor dried clothes. Thank you dear Tessie for your videos of great ideas,recipes and smart resourceful innovative ways to happy peaceful healthy living.. 🌿God Bless you, your hubby and your family in Christ Jesus Always!🌿👃🌿

My mama had a wringer washer and hung out the clothes. In the winter our jeans could stand up by themselves 😅 I loved the smell of fresh sheets that dried outside ❤

I have a washer like the small square one (mine is an RCA) ... It works GREAT!! I only need to do laundry a couple of times a month (there's only two of us, both retired) and most things are hung to dry on an indoor line ... keeps the bills low

I have used a washer like that many times. Growing up that is what we had. The model we had washed on on side and you had a tiny spinner on the other. Then out to the clothesline. We filled it up with a hose from the kitchen sink. I was hoping that you were being careful wringing the clothes out with all your electrical cords running here and there. Brrr.. looks so cold.

We have a clothesline but don't use it if it's too cold or weather isn't sunny. How do you make your clothes not too stiff?

@@sandraking9650 that is a lot of ironing. 😂 I hang my towels and jeans out and they're way too stiff.
