Find out how award winning writer/actor/singer Chris Mulkey’s journey to Hollywood began in this revealing (and rollicking) conversation. Chris starred in the independent Minnesota filmed “Loose Ends” (1975), which won multiple awards, including Grand Prize winner at the USA Film Festival, which landed him in Los Angeles. Attending a Clint Eastwood seminar at the American Film Institute, the actor/director suggested Chris return to Minnesota and write and star, but not direct, his own movie.
Moving to LA with his frequent co-star, actress Karen Landry, Chris never stopped working. With nearly 300 credits, ranging from the cult indie, TOMCATS (1976) to BOARDWALK EMPIRE (2010) and CAPTAIN PHILLIPS (2013) and two classics for director Walter Hill, THE LONG RIDERS (1980) and the Emmy winning Robert Duvall western, BROKEN TRAIL (2006).
Mulkey is also an accomplished musician and fronted the house band at the House of Blues. Between his acting gigs, he’s travelling with his rock/blues band, Chris Mulkey and Deluxe and Chris Mulkey with Blue Highway.
This conversation with producer/host Rob Word took place Dec 13, 2022, at The Autry.
