thank you for the update on the Bronze Star. The only thing not included was that when awarded for Valor, and every medal for Valor your name is engraved on the back.

@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 If you could send me your email I. Could send you an example of the engraving. We have a SF & Ranger lunch on the first Saturday of each month. There is an individual awarded the DSC which also has his name engraved on the back of the medal. the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service doesn’t have an engraved name I’m sure because it would take forever to do so. For example there were approximately 22,000 Bronze Stars for Meritorious Service awarded for the 10 years the Special Forces (5th Group) was in the Nam, but only 2,200 approximately awarded with a V.

I bought an old Bronze star on eBay for $40 that was from World War Two. The soldiers name was on the back, he fought in WW2 and Korea. His name was Kenneth Hershel Armstrong. He died at a young age in 1966. He fought in the Pacific in the Army.

My dad was a combat medic with Patton's 3rd Army, 4th Armored Division during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. Interesting enough, he didn't even know he got the metal until it showed up in the mail a couple of years after the war and he was back home.

the 4th Armored division also earned the French fourragere. I served in the 4th Armored Division in the 60s

On the 50th Anniversary of D-Day in 1994, my dad was also awarded some metal from the French Consulate along with a few hundred other local vets that had served in France, although he was in England on June 6, 1944 and the 4th Armored landed in France much later.

In contrast to WWII, Korea & Vietnam, medals have become more like "participation trophies". It's really sad.

The decorations like the silver star are rare, it just the campaign medals that are common, even in WW2.

Being that the Armed Forces have quite a few medals for service , how about making the Bronze Star Medal just a valor award.

Once upon a time it was but some Pogue Air Force Colonel put himself for bring supplies behind the Army during the invasion of Iraq. Anyone above the rank of E-7 and above gets one if they don't mess up bad during their tour of duty.

So. If I understand this correctly any medic awarded the Combat Medical Badge in WW2 is eligible for the Bronze Star w/V device? My dad was a combat medic in the 100 Infantry Division. He was wounded (Amputee)near the end of the war and was sent stateside. Years later he received via the mail a BSM w/o V device. I'm confused !! he did receive the PH.

The bronze star medal, with out that the device was correct. It was awarded for meritorious service.
