Brook Astor married well. Astor was a narcissistic self absorbed woman. Her son does not deserve this. The idea that she wanted to skip over her son and give it all to her charities so that she could continue her memory on says it all. She was a bitter woman. She hated his wife because it divided his attention from her that she had basked in her whole life. I bet that her son and his wife had handled things differently.
That’s not really true….Brooke had always planned on giving her fortune to charity. In reality she wasn’t all that fond of her son, she thought he was spoiled and unambitious and too reliant on his inheritance.
@@henrylivingstone2971 Brook Astor was like a lot of narcissists in that they are very nice when there is an audience but the immediate family sees a totally different side.
@@50hellkat2 I mean…to be fair the reason she wanted to give the money to charity was because he was already fairly financially independent considering he was a diplomat. And the reason she didn’t want him to have the Astor fortune is because he wasn’t an Astor. At least she married into the family but he doesn’t really have any claim to the fortune. And she explicitly said that was her reason.
