Regardless of what she endured you have to give her so much credit that she stayed off of drugs she's lived as long as she has when so many in Hollywood her age died young and she's raised a relatively normal family that's a credit to her and her character

How is bad mouthing her past films courageous? Standing up for those films and making an argument for them that treats people as adults and not children who need to be wrapped in cotton wool would've been courageous. What Brooke Shields did here was engage in the laziest form of virtue signalling to get her face on camera one last time. Pathetic!

I'm also wondering why it's OK for sexually charged shows about teenagers like euphoria? So it's OK for 25 year olds to act as teenagers and perform in highly sexual roles where old men would surely fantasize about them. Seems to me this is also sexualing teenagers.

At nine years she got her first (or second) role in a horror movie, "Alice Sweet Alice", where she was being murdered. At ten years she appeared nude in "Playboy". So there was already some traumatic history there, she was being groomed. Only after that, at twelve, was she cast as a child prostitute in "Pretty Baby" . And her (very manly looking) mother said in an interview at the time, without any shame: "I think, it's the mix of innocence and sexuality in a child what's really APPETIZING to people..." (something to this effect). With Brooke looking away, as if she is about to die. At 12:57 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wu7EP2Uk1vk.html Yeah, right, she threw her child to the wolves, and collected the money. And Brooke defends her to this day!

troll23.... I totally agree with what you say. I think she is in denial about her mother. It's horrifying to think the film Pretty Baby is still being shown. It's child pornography. Anyone who has seen it, can't deny it. It should be forbidden. Surprised it's not. There are some well known actors in it who ought to be ashamed. When the film Lolita was remade, it was condemned and failed. I wonder how this one is ok.
@hm2011100
@hm2011100 5 месяцев назад
@@ingridbergman-vz7goI don’t think she’s in denial about her mother. She recognises her mother was wrong & deeply dysfunctional. But this can coexist with still loving her & having the maturity to contextualise her mother’s actions. It’s a lot easier for strangers on the internet to condemn her mother outright than for the daughter herself. Relationships are complex & there was still love there. The uncomfortable truth is that Brooke wouldn’t be the huge & wealthy star she is now with the platform to highlight these issues had her mother not managed her career from childhood.
@40pianos
@40pianos Год назад
This whole thing is exploitative. At 11 years old she's going to be cast as a child prostitute in Pretty Baby. Somebody had to say 'yes' to that. Her mother said 'yes' to that. Not Louis Malle and not Merv Griffin. If it is now child pornography then her mother was the 'groomer' who got her daughter into it. At 14 she's in The Blue Lagoon, again cast as a sex object. She couldn't agree to taking that part without her mother's approval. Men are not the problem here, a grown ass woman, who is supposed to be acting in her daughter's best interests, is the problem. I don't know how old she was when she did the Calvin Klein ad but she was in it for one reason and one reason only, her sexuality. She was pimped by her mother. And now that she's 'clearing all the skeletons from the closet" in this documentary film, what does she call it: Pretty Baby; the name of the movie that featured her as an 11 year old prostitute, the one that her daughters labeled 'child pornography'. I don't see bravery here, I see exploitation of a young girl by her mother, and I see the exploited Brooke Shields exploiting her own sordid past to advance the only film in decades to have her in the starring role. It all stinks.

I love how Brooke is able to see that her mom made mistakes without hating her mother or completely throwing her under the bus or forgetting anything good about her. Her mother had her own story and past and wounds too. Not saying I would blame Brooke at all if she didn’t feel like being understanding. But I think it’s really beautiful that she gives her mom grace and recognizes how hard life can be and how we all screw up.

I tried watching this documentary, and just couldn't figure out what the point was? Its definitely made to cast Brooke in a victim light, but the producer couldn't figure out how to steer the audience to accomplish that goal. Yes, the early childhood stuff was exploitative. But I blame her mother for that. I think this had the potential to be good, but I gave up in the 2nd episode. I kept thinking, "get to the point".

What an eloquent lady and she should be so proud of all she's achieved as an actress; especially Pretty Baby. Loving and not blaming her mum is a good thing. No doubt, her mum had her best interests at heart and felt that she could protect her, which to a certain extent she did. Pretty Baby is cinematically stunning albeit with a disturbing story to tell. Brooke Shields, doesn't come across as 'provocative' in the role; as her innocence and beauty shine through; portraying a vulnerable little girl; with grace and precision as a fine, young actress; navigating life in a brothel. However, the film shines a huge light, on the degradation of older men; who seek children out for gratuitous purposes ( remembering they are actors) I'm glad that she was unaware of being exploitated by Hollywood at the time; and was able to escape to University and lead a more normal life. I wish her all the best

It's one thing when someone else exploits us, when we're powerless - it's something altogether different when we go out and do it ourselves and expect something different. It's like that old saying, when you do the same thing over and over and expect to get a different result it's the definition of insanity. Our society is quite frankly, a little insane.

Brooke Shields should have objected to the roles her agent's were getting for her. Just like Shirley Temple's. The girls were too young to realize the roles they played, to them it was only acting. The money was good. Their parents were are to blame too. This practice is still going on

Wow, this interview makes Brook's life seem a bit shadowed over. "Weird" was really exploitation. It's also disturbing that female actresses are playing 16 year olds who have similar experiences

When they say she was nayked in the movie, do they mean covered by a blanket or literally just completely? And how is that legal? And what was happening in the scene?
@shadowseer07

Saw the movie, unfortunately, and at a young age. There were two scenes where she is completely naked and in a sexual context. She’s literally a child prostitute, and in one scene she’s been bought by a man to have sex with, and in the other she’s basically trying to seduce a man. I still can’t believe such a movie was made.😞

@@shadowseer07 Completely nakd, as in the front bottom half of her showing? And what was she doing in the scene? Laying on a bed? I hope they didn't have her kissing anyone.

Many young celebrity children emancipate themselves from their parents. I don't understand why Brooke stayed in that toxic relationship.....because that's what it appeared to be, even her own daughters see that. .....Her mother, was in my opinion, a " pimp"....who sold her to the highest bidder.
@becoollikefonzie8007
@becoollikefonzie8007 Год назад
Yeah, her mum was literally a pimp and it sad that Brooke can't admit that. But I also get that she grew up with her mum and feels the need to not make things seem as bad as they really were. Child porn back then was illegal too, so it's not like it was a completely different era, people back then were disgusted too
