Hello from the PNW, North Bend, WA to be exact. I own two pair of the Cascadia 16's with 200 miles on one pair and another 100 in the second pair. I've ran in the dry rocks of Utah's Wasatch mountains and two days later water slogged trails of Utah's Uinta Mountains where streams were running fast. Water took a bit longer to drain than in my old Hoka Evo Mafate 2's. I changed to the 16s due to problematic ankle rolls in the Mafates. The traction on the 16s is superb in all conditions. They worked as well as Vibram soles when scrambling up ridge lines in Utah and held well on fast tight turns in damp and muddy PNW trails. I had run in Cascadia's in early models, 12s were my last pair, when I thought they had become big heavy tanks. I recently ran a 50 mile ultra in my second pair of 16s here in Washington and did get a small blister on the inside top of my big toe. I had felt this in previous shorter runs and normally just put mole skin on prior to running. This time I couldn't find the mole skin so used KT blister tape and it didn't fully prevent the small blister. The 16s allow me to feel the trail better than the Evo Mafate 2s and I really like the build. I'm a heavier runner so need some protection but also need to feel the trail, which allows me to react quicker and prevent ankle rolls. I'm sure each pair of the 16s I own will give me 600 miles plus. I have a trail marathon this weekend with over 7500' of vert here in the PNW, which should give me a good idea if I'll continue on with the 16s. So far I'm happy to support our Seattle area running shoe company although I must say I'm loving the Salomon Sense Ride 4s also. QOD: Old fashioned homemade ice cream

I just bought another pair of these Gore Tex Cascadia16's....I have been beating snot out of my 1st pair and they are well built. ( I figure they will eventually wear out and I want to have a spare pair when that happens. ) I use mine on fire roads, railroad tracks, light trails & hills. They work really well at that. I would hike mountains in them if it was all I had and I’m sure they would be capable of that. ….but (I prefer a hiking boot for that activity). The Gore tex version of the cascadia 16 is my go -to winter running shoe, good grip on icy roads and my feet stay warm and dry. I really like the DNA loft 2 cushioning. It makes the shoe feel responsive. I will still give the Cascadia 16’s 5 stars overall for an affordable, rugged, capable, package.

I’m 55 years old, and I like a lot of things the old fashion way. However, three things that I do regularly, the old fashioned way, are 1. Straight razor shaves are so relaxing. 2. Getting my cowboy boot shoe shined with them on feels so good for these runner’s feet. 3. Black coffee and old fashioned crispy donuts are perfect on a crispy fall or winter morning Things don’t have to be fancy to feel good, taste great and give you a slice of heaven. Luxury is a state of mind. Love what you have and have what you love. Keep it simple!

Although I have a GPS running watch, I prefer to tell the time the old-fashioned way, with a good mechanical, automatic winding analog watch! Your review is spot-on Seth. I bought the Cascadia 16 online the day before it was officially released because it was selling out fast and I wanted to get the wide version before it was gone. I normally wear 9 wide but bought 9.5 wide and it is definitely both wide and long. If I bought again I would go down to 9 wide or try 9.5 normal width. The traction is great except in really slick mud. The upper lockdown and comfort is great, but the midsole comfort only so-so. It feels like running on a worn-out pair of shoes where the footbed is not uniform anywhere but bumpy. Maybe it's just me though. Other than that, it's a great trail shoe with lots of great features!

Just picked up the 17s in wide. Think they may have improved lock-down. I get no swim in the wides. Every thing else about this review holds. TANKS, wouldn’t be my go-to for light, well-maintained trail runs. But would be great for more aggressive trails. Also 2 years into Brooks Glycerin street runners, incredible durability. Thanks for the review!

I can’t believe this is already old-fashioned, but as professional musicians we still have a great stereo system, & a lot of CD’s (including some of our own + recordings of live performances-on our channel!). Listening to music on an cell phone/ear pods just isn’t the same. I also keep duplicate schedule books and calendar which I update by hand. I don’t trust relying on electronic devices as much for that. Finally, we still have a landline. It’s a good idea from a security point in case of electrical outages, but the connection is often way clearer and more reliable than cell phone. Martha
@runningmama4793

Amen to the landline! I keep saying I won't let go of ours until cell phones can match the sound quality! And living in rural New England, winter power outages are a part of why I want to keep it too : )

Thanks for the QD, Seth! This long hold-out has turned oh-so buttery member. For today´s QD, I´ll say PANCAKES: Flour, sugar, egg, milk, hand-cranked whisk. The best part is the hand-whisk belonged to wife´s grandmother. My pops just recently visited me in Zürich after 2+ year COVID-separation, and he asked the other morning: Which batter do you use, Bisquick? Pssshhh.... if it´s old-school for Pops, it´s old-fashioned!

This is interesting. I have the Cascadia 13s and they are very different than these. The upper is much simpler, no waterproofing, very breathable, kinda minimalist padding. It's my favorite upper of all my shoes, I wish I could put it on all the midsoles. The outsole seems about the same and the midsole seems a bit shorter stack on mine. They are not cushy shoes, but they do keep me protected on very rooty trails.

Still works well 40 years later!

Just picked up a pair of these to replace some worn out Hoka Torrents. Decided I needed something with more structure and protection, even at the cost of weight. Got a half marathon in two days thst is going to be snowy and muddy and realized if I ran in my normal dry weather stuff they’d probably have to dig my body out of a ravine in a couple weeks. Figure if I end up hating these Brooks for running I can use them for hiking/backpacking.

I'm not sure why you don't give the Peregrines more love. They have a rockplate, are lighter and there's no comparison with the PWRTRC outsole with 4-5 mm lugs. The game changer is the Saucony PB foam. I wonder sometimes if your body size doesn't work for some shoes? At 6' 150lbs, the PB foam with the PWRTRC is great. Lower stack height too.
