I've only done 40+km i this shoe but absolutely love it. Totally agree that it really pushes you to go faster. It's like the cruise control in the shoe is set at a higher pace and the feet just turn over so fast and easy. What I really appreciate is the wide base and stability of the shoe, it's very forgiving on tired legs and bad form. I don't have the Speed so can't compare, but seeing that you somewhat overpronate it could be a good idea to think about which shoe will serve you best during the later miles in the race.
Tough question! I now have both the Speed and Elite 2, and in terms of late race - and we all know the marathon race "begins" around miles 16-18 when everyone who went too fast clunks out - I'd choose the Brooks. It seems the speed will require better form due to its softness, and the Brooks should be more forgiving while still performing at a high level.
Love these shoes! Took them straight out of the box for 18 miles. Then did a speed workout the next day and felt great. Super pleased and look forward to using them more.
For the marathon distance, I would certainly use my Hyperion Elite 2 before my Endorphin Pro. Just amazed by this shoe. I love it and feel it will be more forgiving over the marathon distance. Don't get me wrong, I do love my Endorphin Pro but do love the fit, cushioning, responsiveness and stability of the shoe. Everything the Endorphin Pro have but over the marathon distance, I feel the Hyperion Elite will outperform. It is an expensive shoe indeed but still less than the Alphafly and Vaporfly. I'm debating between Alphafly and Hyperion Elite 2 for my next marathon. Good review !
I have taken the speed in a virtual half and it was awesome sure it would be good on a marathon too but if this elite 2 felt as good on a long run I’d take the carbon plate for the 26.2. The last 3-4 miles I’d want all the help I could get. Will be tuning in to find out!
I vote the Brooks one for the next marathon: lots of people will probably do the Speed so it will be interesting to see how this one goes. Plus it fits you so it should go ok. A few seem to have fit issues with it around the ankle.
Fordy your review on Brooks Hyperion Elite 2 is spot on.For me Saucony Speed is more tempo shoe and slightly more forgiving then carbon plate shoe.If you are still not very "familiar"with carbon plate shoe go then with Speed. But if you're ok with c.plate shoe go for faster Brooks Elite 2.I would even prefer them over Alphafly for better stability. When comes to choose Vaporfly or Alphafly I'd prefer lighter Vaporfly for marathon distance.
Very interesting review Fordy as im thinking of getting a carbon plated shoe, top of my list was the Hyperion pro now im not sure. Think i will wait for the NB RC Elite to come out as i luv NB especially the uppers and they always fit true to size.
You want to be comfortable running the marathon as you’ll get tired toward the end. I would say go with your favourite running shoe, the Asics Glideride 👍
I don't think you could go wrong with any options. How many miles did you get in? That would be my only concern how will it feel.over the distance if you haven't had a long run.
My first run gave me blister on my Achilles. Although very positive otherwise. Will use runners lock and a medium thick sock to help. Using it for any race distance 5k -1/2M
Hey Fordy, love your videos mate, but please can you upload them in higher quality? 480p looks terrible when watching on a large monitor or TV. Keep up the great work!
You’d think there is more stack in the Brooks but that’s just the design being one colour, I’ll have to buy a pair to know for sure....damn. Btw loved you quoting the elite 1 price in £, elite 2 in $...then the life of of the 2 in km and 1 in miles 🤯 great review as always 👍
Looks good, tempted, but I just PB'ed my 5k , 10k , 21 km, 30 km, and 42 km from my times 5-6 years ago (ha ha) respectively in the last 2 months using the GlideRide - tried the Metaracer but I just couldn't get the same feel as the GlideRide - How's the cushioning on this compared to the GlideRide ? Am a bit of a heel striker but getting better towards the midfoot. Thanks Fordy, and as always , keep up the good work 👌
I need to decide for that 20 miler which one to run in! I was hoping you guys could help 😂😂😂 whatever I do the 20 in is the shoe I’m running the virtual in
FORDY RUNS definitely worth taking the Brooks for a test then! I think we know what the Speed is capable of and would be interesting to see how fresh your legs would feel in comparison. Actually I have noticed the nylon plate in the speed softening up (done over 230miles in mine). There’s definitely less pop than when it was new.
You have to shave off every km of 9sec.I think it's feasible in this particular shoe.Even using my Hyperion Tempo I was able to improve my PBs for 10k 3times in row.(super pleased..)
@@juliankeren5731 I believe shaving off 9 sec/ km is too optimistic with the Hyperion elite 2, here is my personal experiences over the 5K comparing my PBs in a Carbon-plated shoe against a non-Carbon shoe Next % (PB): 17:33 Adios 4 : 18:01
I bet you could shave some off just by weight alone. I ran a 1/2 in adrenaline, the next year I did it in the vaporfly and shaved off 8 min - some down to fitness for sure - but these super shoes really work especially over long distances. Not as stable as the adrenaline though but for race day they are great.
