I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but up until this point, the animators used cold colours to paint the scene, but after Kenai got turned into a bear and met Koda it turned into warm colours. Its so cool.
the colors represent the spirits' emotions: the blue flood represents sadness and despair and the orange waves of light represent anger and disappointment
My mum bought this movie for me just after my dad died. I was only 6 at the time and I would constantly be watching this movie. It will always have a special place in my heart
This is one of the best Disney scenes ever made. We don't know what's going on and we're very intrigued with that music. Then kenai unleashes the spirits and we're treated with the amazing spectacle of animals. Then all of a sudden we see Sitka's ghost and we know he sent them and is extremely disappointed in his brother killing the bear. Then suddenly he turns into a bear and we're like oh my god this is a journey for Kenai! Total genius
That, and the spirits were also very angry that Kenai killed the bear out of petty revenge, which is said to be the least noble way to get justice, and they had Sitka turn him into a bear due to his narrow worldview and as punishment for the unnecessary revenge killing
Why people dislike this movie, I have NO idea. It's such a powerful story, with amazing visuals and songs and characters. And it has much deeper actions and consequences. The sequel was decent, but still mocked the intricacies of the culture the first movie portrayed. Not to mention, this has a very different kind of Disney death - the main character, the 'hero', sets of to kill the mother of one of the characters, and he succeeds. Meanwhile, his brother is hunting him down to kill him, and their eldest brother sacrificed himself to save them very early on in the story. Sitka remains one of my favorite Disney characters, and this was one of my favorite Disney movies EVER.
Tj Locke this movie sucked... it's just so heavy handed and meh. this scene, however, is beautiful and pretty much flawless. if the movie had been made in the same vein as this scene then it could have been a masterpiece. it honestly saddens me because it reminds me of the potential this movie has. ah well.
Fun fact: The three brothers in Brother Bear were all named after actual places/landmarks in Alaska. Sitka is named after the town that goes by the same name, Denahi is actually a rough translation of Denali, the original/native name of Mt. McKinley, and Kenai...I forget what he was named after...I think he was named after a forest or National Park or something... You learn something new every day. ^_^
When i first watched the movie i wasn't remotely expecting to have something like this thrown at me. I broke down and cried 😂😂 This moment feels like straight out of the disney renaissance.
I know it's saying a lot, but this has to be one of the most beautiful, powerful and chilling scenes in any animated film I've seen. Brother Bear is way too underrated, don't know why it only has like 33% on rotten tomatoes
There's an Alaskan legend about a woman who insults a bear and ends up marrying one, before she becomes one herself, and I think that's where Disney got the inspiration for this movie. Personally I'm glad they decided to make the hero a man, because there aren't enough movies about male compassion out there.
1:26 Always hits me because Kenai was beginning to not believe in the spirits when he suddenly gets a first look at their appearances and power, and the first thing he sees is his brother. The way he flinches back when he sees Sitka and his voice of is almost heart breaking.
1:25 I think this is one of the best scenes ever in animation. The disappointment and sadness in his eyes. He's heartbroken of what happened and of what he must do, but his brother has to learn his lesson and face the consequences of what he has done.
North America used to be just as amazing as Africa is today, with Mammoths, Mastodons, Lions, Bears, Bisons, Big Wolves, giant Sloths, Giant Beavers, Camel-like Llamas and more. It’s truly sad that our great continent was once a true land of magnificent beasts, and now they’re gone :(
Watched this movie for the first time in many many years today, I'd forgotten how incredible it was! And I think it's the soundtrack that makes it so great, it's got one of the best overall soundtracks across Disney films! Omg it's just amazing!
The ending always made me cry..I wasn’t alive when it came out but my sisters made sure I knew this movie by the back of my hand, this movie heals old wounds I have❤
Disney movies have a lot of sad moments in them but this one in particular really gripped me. That mixed look of disappointment and sadness on his brothers face. Jesus I can relate. Letting down someone who you really care about.
I remember when i was little and was angry on why he was punished to be turned into a bear. Its funny how you get wiser over the years, cause i finally understand.
Cool. I will gladly take being stupid any day than continuing a conversation with a keyboard warrior who wants to prove that she is einstein, because as we all know it take one to know one. Have a good night!
So because some other kids (because guess what smart one, I wasn't the only one. Does that surprise you?) happen to process this quicker and don't share your definition o having a mindset of being a child, you consider them not only 'Einsteins' but also 'keyboard warriors'? The butthurt is strong. Yawn.
It's actually really sad this movie got bashed by the critics as it did. It's so beautifully put together, from the animation to the backgrounds, to the composition to the dialogue, and to the moral story and the brotherly relationships.
One thing I didn’t notice till now is that they made the bald eagle sound like a actually one instead of using a red tail hawk call like Hollywood always uses
I love this movie so bad. One of the best Disney movies to me with an awesome argument. Not just colors, music and little bear Koda. In this movie you don´t see the bad guys (sisters in law in Cinderella) against the poor little victims (Cindirella herself). You see the story from the two sides, there´s no evil or good, just two species with their reality: Kenai and his brothers in one side and Koda and his mother in the other. Sitka teaching Kenai for him to learn the reality of a beast´s life. And all the responsability to Kenai´s actions that affected his brother making him a vengeful man. On the other hand, little Koda lossing his mother but continuing with the hope to see her again. When I was a kid and watched this awesome movie in a movie theater, I did not understand these facts (I cried anyways). But now that I´m 22 years old -and tear away my emotions at every moment- I can see that this movie teaches you more lessons than subliminal Lion King´s messages -I liked it but... really Scar? You the next comunist?-. Ah... Brother Bear is so cute :´c Sorry for my English, I´m a Spanish speaker :v xD
One of the best movies ever, one of the best songs, its so powerful, when they play it again at the end when Kenai becomes a bear again, i cant help it, a tear comes out from my eyes... :')
Some of the most powerful scoring in film history. Live action, animation, CG.....all of it. Beautiful score that can yank a tear almost 20 years later.
very unpopular opinion of mine: Brother Bear is way better than Lion King, thy making it the best Disney Animation movie ever. The story, the different view of on who's the monster, the friendship, the plot twist and of course this scene. It's just too good and very underrated. Lion King is a 9/10, but Brother Bear is a solid 10/10.
Brother Bear does not get the recognition it deserves. 😔 It's a great movie like the other Disney classics with almost the same level of emotional depth as the Lion King. I'm glad that Brother Bear focuses on the relationship between man and animal and has valuable lessons to teach for generations.
This scene is awesome for all the emotion that is conveyed, even without using words most of the time. You can see it on Kenai's anger when he killed Koda's Mum and then when Sitka appeared you could see in the brief instance that he was extremely hurt and disappointed in Kenai and also that he knew what he had to do when he looked at Koda's Mum.
People are saying that Let it go is the best scene in Disney movies. How the hell can that top this breath taking scene?? It's unacceptable that they think Disney movies made in the 21st century top the movies from back in the day
From Sitka's look of disappointment, it expresses something like this: "That was unnecessary for you to kill a bear when it wasn't her fault. Now, I will have to teach you to see through another eyes. Until you can make up for what you've done wrong, find me in the mountains and I will transform you back."
Are there any reviews that point out that although the Kenai is the hero of his story, he is also the villain of Koda's? He killed the cub's mother, leaving him for dead. The villain is reformed through brotherly love. Maybe the story persons on this film should been responsible for Frozen. Then it would have likely remained a story where the villain is reformed through sisterly love. Also, it would have been cool if it too had an Inuit setting. Imagine that, an Inuit version of The Snow Queen.
Funny enough there's this old cartoon series that showed classic fairy tales set in different world cultures and one episode had an Inuit version of the Snow Queen story
Man. Every time I see the part where the spirits of all before emerge and start running around, happy and free it actually makes me tear up! If they ever did a live action remake, they'd better do this scene because damn I'll be sobbing!
It was a ritual for my brother and I to rewatch the brother bear and lion king every year since the year it released . It still shocks me to this day that this movie is not as popular as it should be.The storyline was so unique 😢
this is the most beautiful song i've ever heard. and definitely one of my favourite films, it has so many meaningful messages to society and morals! amazing!
Brother bear Lilo and stitch The emperor's new grove Atlantis lost empire Treasure planet A goofy movie The only disney films i keep coming back to, cus they have left such an impact in me❤❤❤
I love the soundtrack of this movie so much! I remember having the CD when I was little and how I would just dance and sing along to the songs all day. ^^
