What you've built and done, just incredible. QUESTION: when you use those limbed trees for upright ridge supports -- where it is raw/untreated wood put into the ground ... how does that do as far as rotting or not rotting? I have a property where I could certainly take advantage of that so - very curious. And "of course" I just subscribed! 🙂Thanks for your great shares!!!

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not. You could use those large stones from digging the foundation in something like a work bench base in the greenhouse. The mass of the stones would make an awesome heat sink and look cool, too. I appreciate the time and effort you have to build such an amazing project. Would suggest using a heavy container. For example, cattle panels. Anchor with long t-post like a Gabion wall. Then a wood or masonry top for work surface. Just a thought.
@TheNorthBranchWI
@TheNorthBranchWI Год назад
That would be awesome! We have a giant rock in the corner of the greenhouse so we are thinking of ways to build on that.
@simondemler4097

Great build and fantastic diy skills. A couple of thoughts. Concrete footings didn’t have enough water and we’re too shallow. Ventilation is lacking no room for windows (or at least none that I could see) so it will be too hot in summer.
@TheNorthBranchWI
@TheNorthBranchWI Год назад
Thank you and your thoughts are correct haha We did not add enough water, this was our first time ever working with concrete. And We have to add some ventilation this summer. We left the doors large to help with that, and we are pretty far north so hopefully we do not need too much more. Thank you for watching and for the comment:)

Beautiful build! Hope you get everything out of it you desire. Enjoyed watching the build. I saw your other video on comparing greenhouse builds after watching this one and you mentioned you still need to figure out the ventilation. If you were building it for me, the ONLY change I'd ask for is a window at the back end with a built in thermometer that opens the window automatically when it reaches a certain temp. That way I wouldn't have to keep the door open to vent it, to keep the critters out.

Perfection! I will use your design as my guide. Two questions: 1) Suggestions for gutter collection funneling into greenhouse for plant irrigation? PVC piping through top maybe allowing for gravity feeding? 2) How did you ventilate? I want to build two greenhouses… one adjacent to kitchen and create external door entrance maybe dutch door if allowed by code. The other will be off the family room extending our living space when existing door is open. Goals: reduce heat costs and nutrition.
@TheNorthBranchWI
@TheNorthBranchWI Год назад
Thank you, and good luck on your build! We are planning on collecting rain water to water everything. We ventilate our a-frame greenhouse with a vent and the door staying open. We haven't figured that out for this one, yet. But we made the doors big so if they open that will be a huge help. We are pretty far north so we don't need a ton of ventilation. But, if we need more I am going to frame in a window/vent and maybe put a solar fan or something in. I am going to observe and react as the growing season arrives

There is one thing that jumps out to me that might be a mistake.... Apparently no vents or windows. I didn't see a heat solution either, although that could be done lots of ways. But unless I missed something no built in way to let heat out in the summer could be an issue???? Last, I have a question for basically anyone.... how beneficial would it be to be insulating, especially in places like the bottom couple of feet all around?

Turned out very nice. Couple of questions Why did you use wood ridge instead of the poly ridge . Ascetic or availability issues. Not sure why rafters don't align with wall studs. What did you use between wall twin wall panels. Did screw heads make attachments of the facia trim difficult
@TheNorthBranchWI
@TheNorthBranchWI 8 месяцев назад
We had a lot of ceder and prefered that look, too. They dont align because we framed from the front back then did rafters from back to front. It was a beginners mistake but it held up to a lot of snow. WE are still learning as we go. Between panels there is an H channel they slide in. The screws dont stick out much and the cedar is soft enough it wasnt a problem to trim out.
@alicat398
@alicat398 Год назад

Thank you, Jerri! It is a little tough to come up a price for this one because we milled the cedar for the exterior ourselves. If we had to buy it I don't think we would have been able to built it, at least in it's current form. The panels are 4x8 twinwall panels, and those were roughly $50 a piece, and there were a lot of 2x4's (and we painted them all) that went into the frame . Why did you paint the inside? How do you ventilate and get airflow during warm seasons?
@TheNorthBranchWI
@TheNorthBranchWI 8 месяцев назад
The paint was VOC free and had some outdoor additive to preserve the wood. We figured that was a more cost effective option than cedar and didn't want oil or regular paint in a growing area. We put windows on the front and with those and the doors open the airflow was more than enough. But, we are in zone 4 so the cold is more of a problem for us, than the heat.

The paint we used was non toxic milk paint with an outdoor additive (borax). We did it to save on lumber costs and help prolong the life of the pine and fir. Good luck. Exciting times ahead

@@TheNorthBranchWI are you using clear polycarbonate Twin wall panels for the roof and walls or just the roof ? The walls looked like clear single layer but wanted to verify ? I didn’t see both on your materials list. Thanks for the help.

Were the furring strips on the roof necessary? It looks like you already had 24" centers with the rafters.

We didnt want the panels to sit right on the 2 x 4. Plus the strips gave it a little support in the middle. Might not be necessary depending on where you are and snow loads.

Where do you buy the frosted panels? What are they called. Is it plexi sheets? Home depo?

Twin wall panels. We got ours from Menards. I am sure the other stores have them. The description of the video has more info :)

Very nice but what was the cost?

Looks incredible, nice job. What are the dimensions? How much was the total cost? Hoping to do this in the future.

Hey, Brody! The dimensions are 12'x16'. It is hard to have a good price point to share because our cousin milled all off all the cedar we used on the outside. If we had to pay for all of that we would not have been able to afford this build haha But the panels were about $55 each and there were a lot of 2x4's and concrete mix that went into this. And we painted everything as well

I built a greenhouse like this 28 years ago in Norway. It turned out very nice, and some ppl wanted construction drawings to make their own.

Hi. I was wondering what type of plastic roofing and side panels are those?

We used twinall panels from Menards on the big greenhouse. The a-frame is corrugated poly.

Where did you buy the panels from, if you don't mind me asking?

We got them from menards. There are probably cheaper places to find them, but we bought from them because we are always there.
