Up till now I've never seen a man be a hula dancer. That's taking some getting used to LOL. I was used to seeing these young pretty girls with figures that would kill. But I guess these guys are okay.
This is a traditional wrap for men. Only knots hold the skirt in place. The printing is usually made by the hula dancer himself and holds significance to the dance.
What an ignorant reply. Hawaii is NOT part of Polynesia. Those are the French islands. Micronesia are the even smaller islands (the Marshalls, the Samoas, etc. Fiji, in the SWestern quadrant of the Pacific. And Hawaii is the Queen of the Pacific peoples. ANd Polynesia is the faux version of Hawaii. DUH!!

Polynesia means many islands, Micronesia means small islands and Melanesia means melanins islands or black islands. Hawaii falls into the Polynesian triangle, French Polynesia(Tahiti), New Zealand, Samoa, A.Samoa, Tonga, Tokelau, Nuie, Tuvalu, Wallis&Futuna, Rapa Nui(Easter Island), Cook Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Norfolk...Micronesia; Marshall Islands, FSM(Federated States of Micronesia, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, & Kosrae), Palau, Guam, CNMI(Saipan, Tinian & Rita), Nauru, Kiribati. Melanesia; Fiji, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Solomons, Australia(aborigines)....hopefully I mentioned every islands in their circles.
