While selling two mountain bikes I found a buyer who was looking for a new bike for his younger brother. I pressed him for detailed, and finally I offered to do an overhaul on his Trek Marlin for free. But when I received the bike, I realized it had a lot more wrong with it than I could help with.

This commented reminded me that I haven't checked out Jimmy's channel in awhile ... Just gave it a look for the first time in a few months, my man just gave away 100 actual houses to people in need. Agreed. Not trying to pat myself on the back, in a way it was selfish, but instead of trying to get $300 for an older bike I no longer use, I donated it to my local high school's MTB club. Our LBS tuned it up for free and we split the cost on a few upgrades (derailleur, chain, tires and saddle) plus I threw on a fresh pair of grips I had laying around. My out of pocket expense was less than $200 and I got the satisfaction of knowing I got a kid on a bike who wouldn't have otherwise been able to afford it.

@@dblevins343yep, they use the same frame for all their models, (within the same family at least), and do a decent job of forgoing better parts when you're not gonna see a big difference, hence saving money. I bought a T8 earlier this year and have only felt the need to swap out the dropper post lever, seat, and brake pads. I did do bars and went tubeless, (with stock wheels and tires mind you), but those weren't quite needed, just a preference. The bike feels so playful that I'm inadvertently finding things to jump, curbs, rocks, stumps, whatever, it feels like I took 20 years off my riding style. Good times.

@danielb6472 the D and T series are different frames but only slightly. I'm sure that has to help with manufacturing somehow. But they definitely put the money into the parts that matter. Solid drive trains but nothing crazy. Solid brakes at the price point. Suspension that fits the geometry. But most importantly, they actually provide riders with modern geometry at an "affordable" price. When it comes to hardtails, I always recommend other entry level hardtails. But when it comes to someone looking for their first full-sus. Polygon is extremely hard to beat.

Great video, I’m a Trek guy and about a year ago my wife wanted to do some trail riding with me but she refused to let me spend 3K on a bike for her. I wasn’t having any luck finding what I wanted her to have in the correct size used so I did some research and got her a Polygon Siskiu D7 from Bikes Online. I’ve been super impressed with the bike and Bike Online took care of an issue immediately, I would recommend them to anyone…great job Seth.

While that was beyond adorably sweet for Seth to fix up their bikes, as a middle/little sister, I can feel Samuel's pain of always getting the hand-me-downs. My older sisters always got everything new cuz they were older and/or they bought it themselves. And my little sisters always got new things cuz they were the 'babies'. I literally had to turn 18 just so I could buy my own new stuff!!!🤣🤣🤣

I hope you changed the shifter too. According to Shimano Cues (linkglide) RD are not compatible with Hyperglide systems (ie deore) they have different actuation ratios ratios. "LINKGLIDE systems are not compatible with conventional HYPERGLIDE systems with the same number of speeds because the actuation ratio between shifters and rear derailleurs is different." Not sure how you dealt with this.

Hey Seth, i have a really cool idea i think you should try out. I own a 2020 ghost slamr and it comes stock as a 140front 130 rear and a ferw months ago i upped the fork travel from 140 to its max setting as a 170mm travel fork (a suntour aion). Its slacker than mopst of my friends enduro bikes and it feels amazing. I've taken it to bike parks and rode some black diamond features and its been holding up really well. i think you shoud give it a try and possibly make a video about it. Btw love your work

Polygons are probably the best bang for the buck for entry-level full-suspension bikes. They have significant sales every few months. Buy then.

An out of spec b-bolt spacing will also cause issues upshifting and downshifting. It's not just a derailleur hanger thing, please check this easy thing before messing with the hanger. Also, you didn't even show how to use the derailleur hanger tool correctly. You need to measure at the same spot on the rim because you cannot assume the rim is true. It's so easy to mention, just say it. Next, you cannot assume a new hanger is straight. If you already have a hanger tool and no derailleur, check the new one.
