A fresh female Brown Argus Butterfly Aricia agestis is shown sunbathing. The prominent orange lunules of these charming little butterflies only reach the apices of the forewings in females (the markings nearest to the costa of the forewings are absent or much reduced in males), and they are variable in size. There are no blue scales on the uppersides, useful for separating these insects from other female Blues. One of the still photographs is of a second individual with less striking orange markings.
