It's funny that Bruce says he uses no style yet we all can clearly see there is a style and we call it "The Bruce Lee Style". Hahaha!!! I think because he used to box and is a "out step" stance user and thus his stance is like that.
He was a legend? Legend in what, martial arts or in acting? He was mediocre in martial arts, the only reason he is famous is because he is an actor. There are many, many, people waay better than Bruce lee.
As a teenager born in Hong Kong speaking Cantonese, his pronunication is definitely impeccable and very correct. His way of spoken Cantonese has never been affected by English.
I don't know why but I didn't expect Bruce's Cantonese to be this fluent. On the other hand, he was making movies as a child actor in Hong Kong in the 50s already. In the recording, Bruce mentioned about a scene in which a song should be written about "the ways of martial arts". I wonder if Bruce ever considered asking his Golden Harvest studio mate, Sam Hui, to write it. Vincent, you probably know who Sam is. It seems Bruce and Sam had a quite a friendship. Even to this day, Bruce's daughter, Shannon, and her daughter (Bruce's granddaughter), often appear as musical guests of Sam's concerts in the US.

Honestly, Bruce Lee's cantonese is definitely accurate and fluent. As you know, Bruce Lee lived with his wife and both son and daughter. I'm pretty sure Bruce had no chances to speak Cantonese before he moved back to Hong Kong in 1971. So, I think it's quite amazing to see he speaks cantonese very well even most people around him speak English.

Bruce Lee interview in his native Cantonese language gave me the chills. Long live Li Xiaolong Bruce Lee. RIP to the legendary Dragon. It gives me comfort but tears to hear Bruce Lee speak in his native language, I tried to take Chinese in middle school but learned it from having a dialogue book and watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies. He goes by the name Lee Jun Fan, not Li Xiaolong in Mandarin. As a side note, Bruce Lee has very little ties to China. He was born in the US, grew up in Hong Kong, and then moved to the US for his career. During his lifetime, Bruce Lee only visited China once, when his parents took him there (he was 5) for a performance.

Bruce Lee to me is like this huge, legendary icon, so far beyond that of a normal person like myself that he can only be admired from afar. But the first time I hear him speak in cantonese, especially the first line, about father mother (lol) I felt so much closer to him, the familiar rough sounding typical informal cantonese, it's like having a conversation with one of my friends.

Why I like Cantonese and Japanese is because there is an emotional content in the form of the language. It doesn't sound like they are singing per se, but that the tones move in such a way that what they say, they can express clearly and without any extra filler without being rushed. I'm a H.K. Cantonese, and I have listened to Bruce Lee's voice from TV when I was a kid. This is 100% his voice. And I'm so surprised the recording quality is so good (Maybe it remixed to improve quality later).
Cantonese is a beautiful language. And Bruce was a beautiful human being. Very intelligent man who wanted to reach out into the world to share his culture & his ideas. Such a loss makes me very sad. Imagine what more he might have achieved had he been given more time.

Perfect as is, this needs to be professionally remastered (lossless or whatever) and also put on vinyl lol. Definitely backed up and saved in some vault, audio museum and etc.
I am an admirer of Bruce Lee, but cannot compared to other avid fans. As to those who doubt this voice, don't doubt. It is exactly like Bruce Lee. If u know Cantonese, u will understand this are the type of Cantonese u will hear in those period and there is humour in his expression of words. That suits his character as Bruce has a great sense of humour.

This is lifted from the Bruce Lee doc "The Man, The Myth, The Legend." which was produced like within a year of his death and was a HK produced doc using a lot of footage of his funeral and after watching his home having its furniture and belongings removed so as to sell it after the Lee's left.
Americans are dubbed in some other countries. There is not enough time to learn a language for a film. There are so many markets all over the world. I guess you prefer reading subtitles. I never had a problem with this, in fact, it helped me learn more about other cultures even European dubbed films.
@@schwarzebaron77 what I meant is that even the movies Bruce Lee did in Chinese were not voiced by him he even said that Chinese movies back then were all dubbed because of sound issues
@@RamyGd I noticed that when I was a kid in the 70s. They were voiced by him in Cantonese. Those particular films were not for the US Market. ETD was the only film he did for American audiences. Like European movies (Westerns, Peplum, Eurospy, and Giallo) Just look at "Django" 1966 Franco Nero's voice is dubbed, then watch "Django 2" he uses his real Italian accented voice. I work in the film industry and This is what he meant by "sound issues", The sound was added after filming because there is no "quiet on the set" and you need punching/kicking sound effects. The crew is speaking different languages in the background. But it's the same voice we've been hearing. Just in Cantonese. Apart from the English dubbed movies, we've heard his voice, especially in the movie known all over the world, Enter the Dragon. I will say just like in English, I like the way he accents his words and his speaking cadence. It's similar to his movements. Thanks for sharing!
At a point in his life Bruce began his journey into Martial Arts (back in his young hong kong gang days) and reached levels never before imagined. I think he was born an artist though. So he already possessed an innate sense which served him well in that quest and developed further along with it. Bruce was more than just a martial artist master, but also an actor, director and anything else he wanted to become. We can all take a note from his book.

I’m from HK and I just realised I have never heard Bruce Lee spoken in Cantonese, so I searched up and found this. It’s very interesting and funny at the same time because the way he speaks, the tone and words used are very old fashioned and some words were more like written Chinese forms, which we would find it strange in today’s conversation. But i guess that’s the way people speaks Cantonese in the 70-80s . But I am almost in tears just to hear him speak in Cantonese , a mix feelings of like listening to an old friend speaking , although I was born a long time after he died.
I've never heard him speak in Cantonese before. Assuming this really is him, he is speaking the correct and authentic Cantonese particular to his period without any filler words or words borrowed from English, except for "cut" and "section". His speech is as clear and fluid as his moves. RIP Bruce. After you, there's Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Jackie Chan, but even now they are now in their 70s. After them, there is no more. They are the last of the great generation.

My god! The first harmonica song i heard it was in a movie documentary....called BRUCE LEE THE LEGEND. In the ending. Now i hear a sad harmonica song in a video very related with Lee's life.. and i have a strong connection with harmonicas... I ll try playing this song with my one...
i have heard some of this before {from 2:37} on a thin plastic record that was given away free with a poster magazine called KFM {kung fu monthly magazine that was published in england} it had other Bruce Lee stuff on it and a clip from this tape. i still have my copy of this record and magazine. i didnt know what this clip was but now i do, so thanks for that
It is a real shame we never got to see this come to fruition. If Grandmaster Lee was allowed to bring this plan to fruition, we would undoubtedly have a very successful movie today.
