well , this a MEGA late replay , if one is being taught something in martial arts while practicing it , its respect for others , and Dan inosanto was maby as close as one could be to bruce and his JKD , nothing other then respect for and to Dan inosanto .

@@tpfmike1976 I haven't been to the studio for years. In and out of the country. I haven't called Dan for a while. I assume he's still healthy. Last time I spoke with Greg Lee he doesn't "teach" anymore. Although he'll direct and oversee things. Everyone sort of went on with their lives and careers. I'm making independent Sci-Fi action films now. Grateful to Danny and everyone in JKD family as I can use what they taught me when I do martial arts in my own films.

Well , dan is the quite opposite compare to Steven seagal when it comes to look at other martial artists , he talks aboute them in a respektabel way for Who they are and what they do in martial arts . And as for Bruce , he never looks down or talk down aboute Bruce in any disresectabel way , only that that they looked and saw at things in different ways back and fourth , wich is nothing wrong with that , to mention Steven seagal in that , he has something to learn there from dan , even though dan and Steven are two complete different People.

I've said this before, but you can tell a lot about Bruce by the character of his many friends.

Don't forget that he was a senior student of Ed Parker. Dan Inosanto is far from lucky. This dude created his own path through hard word and dedication for MANY years. We can create our own "luck" this way.

Came into it via a friend who was muay Thai training while I was heavily into tae kwon do and hap ki do. Very enjoyable experience in dice peres, and recommend anyone who has the opportunity to give it a go. Also had a go at kendo, with the bamboo sword and armor, dude, that was awesome too.

Dude was a stud no doubt but you’re trippin if you believe he ran a 9.4 100 meter dash, Bolts record is 9.58 seconds. Maybe the 100 yard dash but that world record for that is 9.2 seconds so that would still put him in a super elite class(not impossible but unlikely).

Bruce Lee's whole aim in his training was to develop as a complete fighter! his philosophy and teaching threatened the traditionalist and angered those who did not wish to break outside of the box. Lee was a fitness fanatic. a training fanatic. A total pioneer and genius of personal growth and development. Thing is that he was an actor and pretty damn exceptional. why? The same reason he is a Legend of the arts. because he was always about being the best at whatever he did. He was a master over his own physical abilities. .. his experience, knowledge, wisdom, will, energy, and strength as a person is nothing but admirable. if MMA was around back then and he wanted to join he would train, adjust to the rules and do what it takes to be on top...period.

I just started to train in JKD and this is what I have been learning that was shown in the video, I just want to ask somebody that has been in JKD for a long time if this is how Spike fights. And by Spike I'm referring to Cowboy Bebop I don't know if you have seen that show or not but that is the whole reason why I chose JKD and also the philosophy I agree with the teachings. So if you don't know who Spike is that's okay I just wanted to know if I am really learning how Spike fights because everyone says that Spikes style is JKD. Thanks

I dont understand what part of it was bulls**t. Inosanto explained it at the beginning. Bruce Lee was looking for practicality not just forms. This would have been early MMA. It NEARLY applies the same logic. I know kungfu is bullsh** btw.

How many more traditional "masters" need to be demolished by amateur MMA fighters for you to get the idea? The problem with training with forms, is that you are training yourself to fight someone who also fight with the exact same form as you. JKD is not a set of moves you have to learn. It is rather an ideal. A constant, ongoing progress you work on your entire life. Like an artist learning art not in terms of charcoal pencil and white paper.

leejunfan6. everyone got (Concepts) ideas. and when freedom is giving to a student to come up with ideas and ideas of his own, is no longer jkd. if jkd is not a style or system but a philosophy, that pretty much air talk.

JKD is not concept, concept content forms, JKD have no forms, JKD is - disengage your self as an martial artist, as an human beeing from all forms. On the way you learn through forms, you drill, boxing, wing chun, grapling, whatever, everything comprehend forms, its necesary, but in the end of the day you have to forget all forms, you develop your intuition, spontaneous, like cat, cat don't know kung fu, cat know how to fight naturaly.

I completely agree, additionally not every martial arts practitioner always has someone to train with so a form at least allows them to practice the movements themselves.

It's like the plays of Shakespeare, or the Bible.

Forms set up imaginary scenarios that you almost will never find yourself in so it gives you a false sense of knowledge. It makes defense and offense predictable and rigid in turn making response unrealistic.

@@toxsin2207 I'm afraid I have to disagree. Forms are extremely important. EVERY movement contained in the 3 forms of WIng Chun have a purpose. Just because Bruce didn't want to teach them doesn't make it not so. And if you didn't already know.. 99.9% of this video is Wing Chun! Most of the action in Bruce's movies is Wing Chun. With the utmost respect toward Dan Inosanto and of course Bruce Lee and the reasoning behind JKD, the moves should have been explained. Even though most of them may never be necessary in an average street fight against 1 person.

@@Drivethebeat Forms fail. In the real world, you meet people with whole sets of different styles. Your only bet is to practice on adaptability. My father was a black belt in TKD and Karate, but when he teached self defence, he NEVER teached people to strike from a traditional stance. Never. He trained reflex and fighting IQ, rather than muscle memory alone. He reasoned that in street fights, you‘ll fight in an elevator, probably on a steep hill, on a stair, against people with knives, etc. I guarantee you, having trained in boxing, when dude started teeping me I froze. I have never trained to react from that. Believe me, there is a reason why MMA rules. When adrenaline kicks in, your heart rate jumps. You loose focus. You‘ll act out your memorized steps like an idiot. But JKD teaches you to have the mindset of a hunter. You went in not to fight, but to hunt. Have you ever hunted? You‘ll get close to jaguars, tigers, but you don‘t have the "idea" of fighting them. You went in silence and act with speed. Try differentiating tigers fighting opponents off, versus tigers hunting they prey. They act differently. TLDR; there is a reason why grapplers train, and only fight on soft mats. Guarded by rules where you can‘t bite, eye gouge, etc. Usefull, yes. For entertainment, not real life. Boxers trained their whole life not reacting to kicks. TKD guys always look like idiots fighting Muay Thais. I could go on and on. Bruce teached self defence. Not entertainment. He teached how to attack vital points like eyes, throat, sternum, in different possible situations in the fastest way possible. For that, he had to get rid of forms. If you want to be able to effectively defend yourself, learn JKD. If you want to entertain, remember the dance steps and memorize the rules! Just hope that criminals respect them.
