Appreciate the acknowledgement here, that real fights are messy. It doesn’t get said enough in martial art videos. Thanks. (I also appreciate the music intro/outro, like it)
On pages 112 and 181 of "Tao of JKD" Bruce Lee wrote about the "corkscrew hook" and "riposte attack." Could you explain and demonstrate those two principals and techniques?
I want to see How to Defend a Takedown. Thank you for taking the time to make these insightful videos. I personally spar against a very good grappler and have a hard time.
Great video as always. I will add this: going to the ground in a self-defense situation IS death. It is not so much the guy in front of you that you have to worry about. It is his buddy lurking nearby. Maintain your mobility (Stay on your feet,) and strike.
When someone tries to take you down, they need to take you off balance to make you fall back either by tackling or getting control of your legs. If I see them going for a leg my first instinct is to bring my rear leg as far back as I can and redirecting their force into the ground and digging the blade of my lead forearm into their shoulder/neck area. From this position they're basically stuck hugging you and there's ways for you to keep striking. What I want to know is how you deal with a situation where a strong guy is going in for a bear hug lol I've seen a lot of people get messed up that way. Imagine being squeezed and nothing but your head to throw at that point, or maybe as you're being taken down. That's a dangerous situation.
Thank you for the video, very informative. Personally speaking, I don't look for takedowns myself -- or rather, I don't look for ground fighting. It exposes you too much to other attackers. I do, however, train in takedown defense to prevent it, and learn how to disengage ground fights should my takedown defense fail. Considering that you're expected to move like water in JKD, learning both takedown and takedown defense, I think, would be just a natural part of it. Striking is good and well, but doing so while not knowing how to defend against instances and react in kind could be.. fatal. Though, I haven't fought many folks on the street who just goes for take downs, and if they do, it's rather sloppy. So TL;DR, yes, takedown defense video - JKD style would be best.
That's cool, you guys always make videos that are so concise yet full of information. Nice way to see jkd that is different from "business Dan", which is also good too
JKD principle: Get in, Get out! Like their mindset. We are not here to fight, cause fights will go to the ground. We try our best not to go there, but things happen and some ground training is a must. Not to submit but to learn how to get out, Get up, and Get going. No time for fanciness. Attack eyes/breathing/balance. Thumbs up.:)
Very good i like how you dont need to create a takedown its just there. Usually i only use one forward takedown which is placing a foot sideways behind someones forward facing foot and at the same time slide into their chest with my whole body shoulder facing them. Basically creating a trip and nudgeing them in it so they fall back. This seems far better i already dont like most takedowns due to them being vigorus throws. Crippling seems like a good method. Very good video loving it!
Awesome...awesome...awesome. Looks so much like solid southern kung fu. Dan...bro your videos are top notch and your Sifu is the real deal. You have a new subscriber my friend.
Alcohol makes me so relaxed in fighting that all that's left is me strategizing a counter-attack based on the opponents stance and movements. You can anticipate their intentions. You also have to be ambidextreous and have the courage to use your left hand or switch into a southapaw stance /vice versa if need be. I once k.o.'d a guy by reading his intentions - he was moving his left arm a little bit so I believed he would throw a left hook, it came , I bobbed underneath it, and got to the right side; after the hook went over, I immediately swung my southpaw left hook, and landed right on his mandable and he went down, and he didn't want no more.
These kind of takedowns probably won’t be effective with a mma guy with a background in wrestling, judo or bjj, these would be more so effective with a regular guy who is just pissed off or drunk
@@TheChocolateChamp it's not about fighting a someone who is drunk, more so learning to handle and control there are some people out here that become violent when intoxicated
@@riversdarrell2000 yeah i get that but think about what you're saying, it will most likely only work against a drunk, so what you just get your ass beat by everyone else whose sober??? I come from a wing chun/jkd background. Like most people i graduated to boxing, mma, bjj and catch wrestling. Lol not all at the same time of course. But these moves don't work. This kids literally falling all over the floor for ZERO reason.
5:50 When some one drops down and rushes me to tackle me (essentially that is all it boils down to "a tackle," its not a martial arts technique) I automatically double shuffle step back and at the same time i reach out and either get my hands on their shoulders or head and push down hard so their head will kiss the ground or asphalt. I then will lock them n a half nelson til they calm down or give up but IF but they continue to resist ill move on into another technique. I do know one must practice, practice, practice each move til it becomes a muscle memory reaction. Also would like to say there was only one Bruce Lee. There will never another one. It is good to c ppl who r carrying on his passion: his way of the intercepting 👊. 🙏
Sorry, in my personal opinion you should combine that lower kick with single leg takedown.. If you are on top access to eye and throat is more viable🙏🙏🙏
I love ur videos, jkd practical myself, but a man a foot taller shouldn't be trying takedowns on a smaller opponent. As a smaller opponent i would be using footwork and taking out the groin, but just my opinion. Thanks for sharing my friend
5'46min after blocking your opponnent use savate kick ''la talonnade'' heel's kick on the groing for that you must turn your hips rapdly and correctly. To me JKD it's the shorter way and the most efficienly as possible, faster and powerful with the control line center. Your humble servant
DAN LOK, I'd like to request that you guys address something I've noticed on OTHER RU-vid channels concerning "moves to end a street fight". in the last 2 days, I've seen at least 2 videos instructing people to hit the temples, and the throat. as I'm sure I don't need to tell you, hitting the temple is a very bad idea. and hitting the throat is even more dangerous than the temples because it's so easy to kill someone doing it. these other youtubers are handing out extremely irresponsible advice! one of them is claiming to be a jeet kune do instructor. I asked this channel if he was an official jeet kune do instructor with Dan inosanto's approval. the fact that I've not received a reply, tells me that he/they are likely NOT approved by inosanto..
@@raultorres8071 that's a cop out answer and you know it. These techniques don't work. I high school wrestler would probably beat all three of these guys back to back easily.
@@nopeace3689 against who?? I mean it's like this some people want to learn just enough self defense to defend themselves against a stumbling idiot and some people actually train at real gyms and want to defend themselves against other people who actually know how to throw a punch and could be extremely violent. Example if you studied aikido and one person studied boxing the boxer can handle more real life violence. This isn't to defend yourself against real life violence.
Dude today jkd instructor are different compared to back when Bruce was around. I can clearly see Paul technique and Ted technique. I don't see Bruce technique. Qoutes don't make ur moves. I met Bruce as youngsters. You are not doing him or his art any justice. Things have certainly CHANGE.
