"Before I studied the art, a kick was just a kick, a punch was just a punch. After I studied the art, a kick was no longer a kick, a punch no longer a punch. Now that I understand the art, a kick is just a kick, a punch is just a punch." -- Bruce Lee. Round house, round kick, slant kick, hook kick, spin kick, turning kick, wheel kick, heel kick, spin-heel kick, whipping kick... it doesn't make a shit what ya call 'em. All that matters is who, what, when, where, how, and why.
very very effective! i started to use some basic techniques in the thai box free fights, the others dont know what to do :) it really works!!!! 2-3 movments and you are the winner. Bruce Lee was a mastermind.
LOL. I'm watching this vid for the first time but I've read his book many times. Bruce Lee's JKD was all about simplicity. Just do what you need to get the job done. No fancy shit cause it doesn't work in a real fight. That's why most so called "traditional martial artists" get their asses handed to them in MMA.
why do they kick w/ using the foot as the part of your body that creates impact? in muay thai and kickboxing they use their shin. its a much harder surface that wont break as easily and it will do more damage
Ya I agree. From what I gather, the "jab" is not used in JKD. It is substituted by straight lead punch which is much stronger and more damaging. Can be done just as fast and non-telegraphic if practiced enough.
It's more focused on the whipping damage as opposed to the hacking all the way through muay thai has. I use both kicks, this one is definitely faster and catches opponents off guard. The Muay thai kick is stronger, but it gives a "hint" when you prepare to kick, Bruce wanted to build off the principle of fighting without showing any indication to your opponent.
sadly his students didn't achieve his level and he died too young to be able to record everything wrote all waht he wanted to and produce enough well trained people
please don't practice your jab on a focus pad like that. not to telegraph is right but it's never a good idea to reinforce dropping your lead hand after you throw any punch
Man i dont know but im a TKD guy so im just telling u what i have learn and how they call those kicks in other Martial Arts, even in the movies they call it like what im telling u!
If you do Kuk Sool Won you'd know that it's not called "dojo" which is Japanese term, it's called "Dojang". A roundhouse kick is the same thing as Bahl Dan Cha Ki. All terms are correct as long as the end result is the same.
clearcombat You called it. This is what Jun Fan called “perfecting faults”. And anyone who does not know that you recover back to the small phasic bent knee stance doesn’t understand Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do.
It is... Bruce Lee called this, usually Roundhouse-Kick/Round-Kick, the "Hook Kick" :D Bruce actually did never use the word jab for one of his techniques...
It does not. I have been kicked in the nuts many times before and I get as hard as a rock. My body, not my penis, if that's what you're thinking. It actually gives me a huge burst of rage and energy and I become almost unstoppable. This happened to me a little while ago, while I was starting a fire in the middle of the town where I am currently living in, and some guy tried to stop me, all Mr. Hero and defender of the material goods of the society and stuff! He stopped his car right beside me, got out, and kicked me directly in the balls. Too bad for him I had a helmet with me that day, I had just robbed a motorcycle, helmet and papers included. I smashed his face 'till it was unrecognizable. The guy went crawling back to his car zig-zaging, and went away driving like a zombie. And no, I'm not a badass. And no, I do NOT need help. Help never arrives. I am just a piece of half alive/half dead meat. Or maybe all of this is just a huge LIE. AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA, -"damn, this guy is insane..." you got that right! And now I'm going to listen to Prodigy, my favourite one; guess which one; I'll give you a hint: I start fires, so I am a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ !!!!
Nathaniel Faulkner it would suck a lot more if I didn't had internet and a tv. and a computer. and a guitar with an amp. pretty much all I need for now.
@BroseConseco Well they were wrong, cause I'm in TaeKwonDo and they teached me what is a Hook kick and what a Roundhouse is, and not even the motion of that kick it's like a hook
***** he called it a hook kick because its like a boxing hook in kicking form, it comes from the same side and a similar angle/ direction, a hook kick as you know it is more like a back fist coming from a similar angle and direction. He was thinking with boxing and fencing in mind.
Dan0101010101010 The "hook" in my mind comes from the joint of elbow or knee making a hook. The knee and hip joint makes the hook come from the other side than the arm in boxing. Thats why most dont call the roundhouse kick a hook, because there is no hook.
