As opposed to Japanese or more intense styles Gung fu takes years to fully master due to being developed in feudal times. When it's life or death you can't afford sprains etc so it's softly softly growing in intensity. That's why masters are usually old dudes

Yip had strong tendon strength. He was quick enough to block Bruce punches & kicks. Yip had trained iron palm, iron fist. A life time of fighting experience. And a master of Pressure points from kunfu healing medicines.

Yip Man was exceptionally fast and strong for his stature... It was Bruce Lee's goal to become and even surpass master Yip Man... So this should give you an idea how good Yip Man was in his prime years...

Not only was he old and riddled with cancer, he was reportedly a drug addict.

He is keeping his training despite his age. Also a good food. We had one old man here 94, still making simple wood product like chopping board, stool chair and few other small wood product. Do not let the age catch up with you.

I could be wrong. And please dont hate me for saying this. But I think bruce lee used to focus to much on hard style kungfu. Many people said he was passionate about kungfu,but he was a arrogant man and perfectionist and braggart.. So I think mr Lee may have had the wrong spirit and temperament compared to ip man. Much like myselff. Yet it is also said he was constantly working on his temperment,also much like myself. However,since I never knew him personally I cannot say. But if things that were said were true then he had a different mentality to ip man. (Not as gentle in mentality) and I think that was the difference between mastery and grand mastery. Both in skill and mastery of self. And why ip/yip is more elevated in status to some of us. IP's style was soft yet harder. But Bruce's was possibly hard yet harder still when angered. And everything harder breaks.. No give no balance.

E Spencer Unfortunately, most Wing Chun practitioners don’t honestly spar for some odd reason. This is one of the reasons why there are very few high level Wing Chun practitioners. The most important activity any martial artist can do is sparring. Otherwise, it’s all theory and no application.

Who was involved in 34 death matches with the Japanese best Judo masters. Killing the last one in 11 seconds, then sat in meditation and was gunned down along with the rest of the shaolin monks in the temple. Yip never faught the Japanese.

First it's Ng mui and she created Wing Chun but Wing Chun was named after a great master Yim Wing Chun. They were both women

@@roninh298 That's the legend but in reality it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. They say that a Buddhist nun Ng Mui at the Southern Shao Lin Temple taught it to her student Yim Wing Chun. However the facts are that there cannot be women at Shao Lin. As Shao Lin has a strict policy of keeping the sexes separate so there could not have been women there.
