Bruce Lee's Pendulum step is a very effective way to retreat your lead foot as well as advance toward your opponent. Practicing this agility movement will improve your foot speed and give you a better position to counter or retaliate.
I am currently uploading these videos from Tokyo Japan and filming my own as well. My first few I am solo but I am looking for a good training partner.
Thank you for watching!

People underestimate the importance of footwork. They only think of striking.

In addition, the footwork gets you to the right distance for attack, and away from being attack.

@@JKDZKD my instructor is so agile on his feet that I cannot Punch or kick him because he moves out of the way faster than I can strike! It is very humbling to realize I cannot touch him!

Nate can you make a video about a basic Jeet Kune Do training session or something like that? That would mean a lot to many of your viewers that don’t have access to an instructor

I think that's a great idea! Thanks for your suggestion!

I discovered long ago how valuable fast, athletic footwork really IS. If one can become 'Creative' in their training tech- niques---one can become quite advanced in their chosen Expression of the Martial Arts. We don't have to limit ourselves to a given style, or form.

When you demonstrated the pendulum it was like a lightbulb going on in my head; so simple yet effective. I studied kenpo a while back and we did a lot of that cross leg back and forth. It served its purpose but I always found it to be just a bit clunky and labor intensive; maybe it's my tall ectomorphic frame. I just paused this video and tried the pendulum and I am floating around like a cha cha dancer! 😀

I tried this pendulum step on my Sifu but he blocks my leading step with his front foot idk how to overcome that so the only kicks I can land is from a stationary stance

Then do a round kick
@JuanCarlosHazanow

A kick that is practiced is obviously a predictable kick and hence the block. However; do not forget that the JKD not only sees fast movements but they must be unpredictable.

I'm curious how it would work against a Muay Thai low roundhouse kick? Which the standard Muay Thai defense is being leg checked by the opponents raised shin. Would the Thai boxer be left spinning past the target (because of lack of resistance from either hitting the target or being checked) and open to the counter kick? [A lot of wannabe ''Tough guys' are doing MMA these days, or just picking up the basics from watching UFC] "Every Martial Art's defenses is optimised against _it's own styles_ attacks". Worthy of a video with a Muay Thai practitioner?

i think they just explaining the evasive aspect. my personally would intercept the attack. The video basically shows Shuffle

Let's not identify the style. When you identify the style, people get upset. When you identify the technique, people don't get so upset and might even listen. Let's just say defense VS a low roundhouse kick: 1. The most common counter is you intercept the kick. Follow with ABC to KO the opponent. 2. The kick left spinning past the target (because of lack of resistance from either hitting the target or being checked) and open to the counter kick. 3. You block the kick and counter. But usually in JKD you are a beat ahead so you don't block unless you have to.

@simion pop You are right. Everything need to work on full contact or high speed but we have to first show you the technique in slow speed. Then practice diligently and progress to full speed. Thank you for your comment.
