this is like seeing a dream not only because of the bruce lee in it, but also because these interviews with true , civilized , inteligent discussion never happen today anymore he's also highly intelligent, and he's a ....LEGEND you can see quotes from him everywhere
People who say bruce was cocky and full of shit should watch this interview... His mindset towards martial arts is so pioneering even by todays standards.
It really is. To consider exercise, training, kicking, punching and maybe even fighting in regulated combat sports all as individual expressions of the mind and body rather than simply being skillsets involving technique, seems to be a very unique and progressive way of looking at it, even in 2022. To Bruce, it would be the equivalent of modern interpretive dance..... with deadly power and accuracy, though. This point of view goes a long way to explaining why some people claim to "love" martial art even if they hate fighting or competing and why they've always loved it - because it's not just moves and kicks and tricks. They've been expressing themselves, their emotions, their whole being, all along and it feels good and true. This 24 minute video has touched the very essence of who I am and who i have been since i was 5 years old, or as long as i can remember. It's rattled my cage and rustled the leaves and reminded me why we do anything with diligence - to better ourselves, to learn and understand, to be gentle and soft and flow like water and CRASH through obstacles. The man is simply amazing. Is he "the greatest fighter" or "could he beat Mike Tyson"...?..... who cares? The man is much more than a fighter. He IS philosophy, he IS style, he IS understanding, he IS art and he certainly is power. R.I.P.
@@WM0302 yeah, kinda sad that some people can't tell the difference between what is considered confidence, and what is considered to be cocky. A person that is confident, has confidence in knowing what they can do, but also knows their limits and so they are humble. A person that is cocky, overestimates themself and underestimates others, thus they do not know their limits and are therefore arrogant (and in some cases also ignorant)... in the UFC, it's kinds amusing to see a fighter being cocky and acting like they think they're king sh!t, but then get knocked out in the first round just as it very first starts.
A true legend, clear thinking, clear speaking... There is no words to describe his completeness and his humility! With great skills of MMA and his mentally sharp capabilities, it is his humility with his use of great tact, that makes him the total (package), true legend!
This is truly something the modern world of interviewing seriously needs to research. It's truly in-depth and very spiritual in content. I didn't particularly like the interviewer in how he sometimes interrupts Bruce as he is explaining, but I admire how Bruce kept his composure and got through it like a man...he's a true legend through and through.
Going to the Cinema to watch all of His Movies as they came out, and totally Uncut, was the highlight of My entire life. A Living Legend that will live forever. RIP Bruce Lee.
People need to recall that Bruce Lee studied philosophy at University and was innately drawn to philosophical and metaphysical matters like any genuine martial artist.
I admire his physical talents and abilities, but his thinking process and mindset is what made me look deeper into his life and philosophy many years ago. It opened up so many other doors into other subjects and spiritual concepts. His personal library included a vast array of subject matter unrelated to martial arts and fighting. Truly fascinating.
Bruce Lee was like a firecracker going off in the sky. Fast, powerful, here and then gone. An amazing man and highly innovative martial artist. Originator of MMA and Jeet Kune Do. Rest in peace, Master Bruce Lee. We love you.
Wow! Came across this interview by chance. Seeing Bruce Lee from another perspective. Was certainly one who influenced and introduced me to the world of Martial Arts and I became a student of Martial Arts myself.
The interviewer does not appear to understand what Bruce tries to explain. I can imagine at that era how the Hollywood viewed Oriental world. Now the World has changed. Many Westerners understand Asian Philosophy. To me the interviewer seems not viewing Bruce as a same class Human.
Nice thing to upload this interview. We were all fascinated by his fighting style and spirit during those days..He has more depth and dedication to his art than I thoufght. The interviewer is also very good. He made Bruce relax and helped extract his inner feelings..Thanks.
Bruce Lee was real, in the sense he freely expressed right and wrong. Being real is a virtue in a world that wants to shape you through hypocricy, but it's not the highest virtue. Being holy is, encompassing all virtues. Bruce Lee was a respectable person, a knowledgeable martial artist, a good actor, a person seeking and advancing wisdom, a person leading people's character to the right direction. He had way more to accomplish in front of him, but death had other plans... and that is how life is...
How many people in human history can have it said of them that they, in such a short space of time, positively impacted nearly all people over the entire world ? Bruce Lee is one of those people.
I like when Bruce Lee told the interviewer I see myself as a human being. The way I see it God made all people everybody's blood is red. This black white Chinese native American that's labeling people. We need to stop this labeling and start loving each other.
At 12:54 Bruce: it’s very hard to honestly express yourself, not lying to yourself. You do what you’re determined to do. Interviewer: thats very unwestern. Enough said
You hear Bruce say, "You understand what I'm tryin to say?" at 22:21, in a way that confirms he had a martial arts studio in Oakland. That was smooth Bruce! Haha! And an epic interview!
If any one truly wants to "Know" who Bruce Lee was....watch this interview. BL was very honest in his abilities and how he views MA. And how he views "real fights"....it's all here. :) Very revealing. Shows us how most of what's been said about him has been speculation and hype. Marketing. That was his forte "self-promotion"...not martial arts. Course he cant "teach Karate" he never spent enough time learning Karate. Didn't even have a "2nd belt" never mind a black belt level of experience and knowledge.
His disappearance / death was very mysterious with few plausible answers. It's funny to think that every time you think of him, he's a kind of contemporary figure, As if he is actually present .. go figure! Rare interview, with a rare human being !! I especially liked the answer to the question, how does he see himself, whether as a Chinese citizen or as an American citizen? If he were alive today, he would surely like the following quote: "The earth is my homeland and humanity is my family."
I'm in my early eighties now and he influenced me in my teenage years and he was a great loss to the world. At the time of his demise I use the word. It was said that the then know "triads" intervened as Bruce was parting with to many say? Knowledges. Of the ancient orient+origins of past masters!!!!!
The interviewer doesn't seem well rounded. How can you not understand such a simple concept? That goes to show you how ignorant the interviewer sounds. Bruce Lee was really nice and passive about the childish questions, but hooked this gentleman in.
I think in those days, and to the interviewer generation martial arts were a novelty. Plus, Mr. Lee was a Philosophy Major from UC San Francisco. Those philosophers get deep into it.🐣
Jimmy Wang Yu was a Taiwanese actor, film director, producer, and screenwriter. Wang rose to fame in 1967 with his starring role in One-Armed Swordsman, a martial arts film produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio, and The Chinese Boxer
a lot of criticism of the interviewer ... Pierre Burton from Canada ... .but I thought it was a great interview and that it was obvious that he was very well prepared for it with many great questions .... Bruce was really given many chances to express himself fully and deeply.
The narrator used every second he had without planning to politely close the interview. Not nice for any human being being interviewed. Bruce was kind about it anyway.
This interviewer kept interrupting bruce's speech, bruce was very wise to undersatnd and to speak about delicatre subjects like cinema we all know they racist , still he was being smart and friendly and this guy keeps interrupting him. Other it was good to watch the hole interview, very good message
