Hi; use argo tec mixed with methylated spirit to form a slurry and paint on the silver before heating … to remove soak the silver in hot water. You can buy from Cookson gold Birmingham if you look on there website All the best Bruce

Another option is to work with fine silver like they do in Asia, no copper, no fire scale. I've often used Boric acid and alcohol to coat sterling.

Hi I am 75 and still enjoy my craft very much. My hands are fine with no problems of 60 years of gold and silversmithing .. not sure what silver pommels are

Boric acid and rubbing alcohol
