My first visit to beautiful Kilkenny, I said on the way in “It’d be amazing if he paid tribute to Shane tonight”, opening with this was the best possible start to the best Bruce gig I’ve been to so far!
Was there to enjoy. What a moment! Heartfelt and delivered in a completely respectful way. Shane McG would have appreciated it. Just the intro to a great night.
I love Shane and The Pogues and I love Bruce and The E Street Band. It was great seeing Bruce visit Shane in Dublin last year. And it was so touching listening to him speaking about Shane after he passed. I was expecting something like this, and it has definitely made my day. I would love to see something similar in Dublin next weekend and maybe even seeing Victoria on stage for the occasion! Shane and Bruce Forever!!!
Lyrics: I've been loving you a long time Down all the years, down all the days And I've cried for all your troubles Smiled at your funny little ways We watched our friends grow up together And we saw them as they fell Some of them fell into Heaven Some of them fell into Hell I took shelter from a shower And I stepped into your arms On a rainy night in Soho The wind was whistling all its charms I sang you all my sorrows You told me all your joys Whatever happened to that old song? To all those little girls and boys Sometimes I'd wake up in the morning The ginger lady by my bed Covered in a cloak of silence I'd hear you talking in my head I'm not singing for the future I'm not dreaming of the past I'm not talking of the first times I never think about the last Now the song is nearly over We may never find out what it means Still there's a light I hold before me You're the measure of my dreams The measure of my dreams
Grown man in bits here, embarrassed??..not one bit! Incredibly touching moment, beautiful tribute to his dear friend no longer with us. Rest easy Shane
Classy move by Bruce, maybe the band didn't really know it, as it lacked the raucous swirling waltz of the pogues. But E Street aren't a punk band - nice hornplaying and accordion - but more oomph and sway required next time.
I absolutely love Bruce (seen him 75 times). I also love The Pogues (saw them a week ago, Red Roses For Me). I love that Bruce did a tribute to Shane. It's not his usual type of song but to start with this in Ireland was beautiful. RIP Shane 🙏
@@GuadalupePicasso "Spider" Stacy does most of the singing with guests appearances by other artists. I read the " Red Roses" gig was brilliant. The music and words sustain.
@@tombyrne6559 And what a sublimely beautiful song it is. Not so well known here in the US as in Ireland. I am grateful to Springsteen for playing it, or I would never have known about it. It was lovely to hear the crowd singing along and what an anthem to life it is.
