Bruce does not so much lead a choir, but a carnival when he does live performance! This Live in NYC concert video was part of a DVD that was shot over 15 sold out shows at Madison Square Garden in 2000. It has many incredible performances that span his portfolio. Light of Day and 10th Avenue Freeze-out evidence what an incredible front man and singer- songwriter he is. And will show you why superfans have seen him and E-Street more than 30 times. But I would also mention that Bruce has a second band, the Sessions Band, which focuses primarily on Roots Music and covers some classic folk songs (John Henry, Erie Canal) as well as songs that are anthems to the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s (We Shall Overcome, Eyes on the Prize). He led an incredibly raucous hootenanny in Dublin, Ireland that was also made into a DVD. He opened that acoustic concert with a completely different version of Atlantic City that include banjo and violins. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I-KINbIukLs.html not suggesting you react to a third version of Atlantic City. But I suspect you will really like it,
Prince once said that Bruce is the only bandleader he respected, and you can see it in this that the band (especially drummer Max Weinberg) watch him like a hawk. He really does lead them - shouting out the setlist as they go along, putting them on the spot to play random covers or lesser known songs. The Nebraska side of Bruce is just one of many 😃
@@randominerecords Hey Cole. Bruce actually opened up a concert in Brooklyn with a stunning cover of Purple Rain a day after Prince passed. That Bruce and E-Street could turn-around a brilliant version in 24 hours is a huge testament of just how good these musicians are.
You’re not wrong. I remember seeing a performance of “Out in the Street” where he just turns around and shouts “Out in the Street!” And half a second later they’re playing.
Bruce has done so many different things. He is a rocker first and foremost. His third album, Born to Run, shot him into the stratosphere. One of the lesser appreciated songs on that album is She's the One. His performance of that song at Hammersmith mere days after the release of BTR is legendary, and is rocker Bruce at his best. A fun video to watch to see Bruce and the band so young. i think in order to really appreciate Bruce, you have to see him perform. Even if it's only video.
So glad you've gotten into Bruce. And...after 15 songs, how is it possible that you haven't yet touched ANY of what in my humble opinion are his best 15 songs??
Just wait until he gets through Badlands, Prove It All Night, Racing, Darkness, Thunder Road, BTR, Jungleland, all the gems on the first two albums, all of BITUSA, tunnel of love and even more recent stuff.
I think Jungleland is one of the best songs ever written. If you want nine minutes of what Bruce Springsteen the songwriter is really all about, that’s it.
Atlantic City is one of the highlights (there are many) of a Bruce Springsteen and the ESB concert. It's often, but I don't think always, on the set list.
Can I suggest you look into the music of Nils Lofgren, the guitarist to Bruce’s right. He has a distinctive voice you can hear clearly in the harmonies in this performance. Nils has his own music going back to the early 70’s. Start with “Valentine” or “Keith Don’t Go”. You won’t regret it.
I truly loved this, I may run hot and cold on Springsteen but he's a force of talent! At the risk of dating myself, I'm old enough to remember his days before born in the USA, he's morphed into a legend status, I think got better with age as opposed to some who should have let go, well, guess I'll go out and yell at the kids to get off my lawn now hehe, thanks again Cole for your thoughtful commentary and watching you edging to that magic thousand!
It's likely a heresy but I suspect the 2023 Tour will likely be the last one. Patty's been a part timer for years. but Roy and I suspect Nils are probably about done. Bruce probably has another tour or two in him, but it just won't be the same without all the members rocking the house!
@@mikebigbeard3156 He told Howard Stern this past week that he can't imagine "Retiring". He might not do the normal 3-3.1/2 hour shows any more but retiring would never happen.
