@pellepluto
@pellepluto 5 дней назад
Not quite, they both went through MoDos system and went to high school in Ö-vik, but neither grew up in Ö-vik or started playing hockey in MoDo. Ullmark is from a village called Lugnvik in Kramfors municipality where he started playing hockey for the local team Lugnviks IF. Forsberg is from Härnösand where he started playing for AIK Härnösand. Still cool to see two guys who came up together through the junior ranks in MoDo getting reunited at the NHL level though!

Hating this trade for the Bruins. Ullmark's salary was only for one more year, now you take on a multi-year salary in Korpisalo. Even at 25% retained, it's way too much for a sub-par goalie in Korpisalo. I just don't feel like the Bruins are really saving that much (net) money next year and then you have a problem with an overpaid goalie in future years. Bruins also have another issue with Brandon Bussi, who was lined up to be Swayman's back up next season. Disappointingly surprised in Sweeney's performance here. Senators fans should be celebrating that they found a sucker to take Korpisalo (when his demand is rock bottom). Ullmark was a great Bruin and a quality human being. Sens fans will like him.
@nonoman305

The bussi part of it is weird, I'd expect the Bruins to add a third goalie to not simply hand the spot to him, but that guy should be a league min for 1 or 2 years, having a substantial contract for 4 years korpisalo must be the long term plan as backup which leaves a promising goalie out in the cold

Ullmark will have a .900 or worse year. His stats with the Bruins where great mostly because of the defence in front of him. Also he pretty much craped himself in the playoffs last year. @UncleAnaesthesia

From my understanding, Ottawa was the only place Ullmark wanted to go so I guess the Bruins were hamstrung, similarly to Ottawa when they dealt DeBrincat to Detroit. There was no wiggle room, but they had to make a deal that was as friendly as it could get given the circumstances.
@dumdawgpro

I think Korps will do better next year, but as of this trade, he is a negative asset(even at 25 percent retained). So a late first, a 4th liner and a negative asset for Ullmark is great for the sens.
@jobemi2422
@jobemi2422 5 дней назад
@@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Even if Ullmark walks the trade is still a big win for Ottawa. Dumping Korpisalo to another team probably woulda taken a 1st+ on its own. So the fact that they did that while also bringing back the reigning Vezina winner is a big win. Kastelic is a replacement level 4C that’s 25 so he’s hardly a big loss for the Sens either. Even if the Sens track to miss the playoffs next year they probably recoup most of this value in a Ullmark trade with 50% retained at the deadline. Korpisalo was arguable the worst goalie in the league last year and the primary reason the Sens struggled so much. I expect him to bounce back next year since it’s hard to be that bad in consecutive seasons, but he’s not some high end backup. Bruins woulda been better served to just bring in someone like Wedgewood for half the price and term.

@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants 5 дней назад
@@Waawaaweewaa_ Save percentage is a biased stat since it is so tied to the team defense. Being on the jackets, sens or sharks is like a goalie graveyard. Boston got a 1st round pick for a rental player who was not going to stay. Korpi can be a decent #2 and if he is worse than that the 1st round pick can make up for it. The Sens only real upside to dumping the bad contract like that is if they think they could retrade UIImark for a 2nd or more right now.
@StanleySpadowski
@StanleySpadowski 5 дней назад
I love this from Ottawa's perspective because that Korpisalo contract looked like it was going to be so bad for Ottawa. Obviously he'd be better than he was last year, but for $4 million a year, you need a solid starter that you can rely on and Korpi didn't look like he'd be anywhere close to that. They didn't have to buy him out, they didn't have to trade a top tier prospect, and they add Ullmark. That's an Ottawa home run from my perspective
@bradley8368
@bradley8368 5 дней назад
I thought one of the reasons the Bruins needed to trade Ullmark was because they didn’t want to lose Brandon Bussi, who isn’t waiver exempt next season, and would likely be claimed if sent down to Providence. In Korpisalo, they get another 30 year goalie with 4 years left on his contract (albeit at a lesser AAV), , as opposed to Ullmark with one year left. It also doesn’t solve the Bussi situation. The only way this trade works for me is if they can flip Korpisalo or buy him out.

Statistically, if you look at the win/loss percentage for the team when the goalie (either Forsberg or Korpi), was .900 or above, vs when they are below...it's a vast difference! The defense was a hot mess, but the system was a hot mess, that includes a management change, all sorts of coaching staff sent packing, ownership change and distractions like the Pinto suspension, the Dadynov thing, Norris injuries, etc. This coming year, things have settled down and the team structure is more in control of their direction. That said, is they dookie up the bed again, i'm just going to sit back and watch the forest burn. I'm confident that Staios is going to address the defense issue next, as well as stocking the shelves in reserves.

@@spime93 The whole reason for trading Ullmark was because they weren't going to run with the tandem anymore and Swayman was solid #1. Meaning $5 mil was going to waste. They're paying $3 mil for Korpisalo and while there's evidence to suggest he can thrive with a good defense in front of him, he's still a significant downgrade to Ullmark. Overall, they traded a Vezna winner and proven goalie to save 2 mil on an experiment, regain a draft pick that they traded, and acquiring yet another 4th line guy. Maybe there's more to come, but it's not a good look at the moment. If Korpasalo was a requirement to get this deal done, they were probably better off finding another trade partner or letting Ullmark walk at the end of next season.

As a Sens fan, I'm very happy with this, I don't think they were going to give Ullmark up unless they gave a 1st round pick or a player that's on par with his skill. Kastelic I find is just a player to fill the roster, he's right and was more for a dump, maybe making room for another bottom-six player? Korpisalo was a major down, I found that he played well with LA in the playoffs so I was optimistic about his signing in Ottawa however this season proved to be the opposite, it's better for the team that he is gone but I wish him all the best in Boston. Ullmark will do good, but to get the best from him we need to shore up our defence, can't expect a goalie to spin on their head, even if they are very good.

I didn't like this deal from a Bruins standpoint, but when you remember they signed Ullmark as a UFA, got 3 excellent years from him and moved him for 3 pieces. Ottawa has had too many goalies at this point for it to be a goalie issue; it feels like an organizational defensive problem. Bruins might be able to help Korpisalo recover but that $3 million cap hit could hurt down the road. The first-rounder is a late first, but it does give Boston needed draft capital.

I think people are underestimating Essensa here. Look at how many goalies he’s churned out into great net minders. I think Korpisalo at $3m has massive upside even if we’re just going to flip him. Yeah if he plays like he did in Ottawa we’re fucked but if he gets back to his columbus days and we flip him we’ll get two firsts for a backup goalie who had 1 year left. Everyone’s hating but I think this has a decent upside and could make Sweeney look like a genius 8 months from now.

A very nice move for both parties. Bruins move away from a difficult to maintain 1A/1B setup to a clearer 1/2 setup with reducing the money immediate and potentially long term money burden and getting a first as well. On the other side the best player in the trade right now has landed with the Senators and might possibly resolve their goaltending issues for a long while. 🧡💛🧡

It may of been optimistic to think we were going to add the full $5 mil to carve outt salary cap space,but $2 mil is way to low if we want to go after DeBrusk, a 2C,or depth,after we hopefully sign Swayman and a big name 1C. I don’t hate this trade because the Bruins didn’t need ullmark anyway, I mean sway is that guy, and if he can play 50- 60 games a year they don’t really need to worry about a back up. And korpi spent one year in Ottawa one of the worst defensive teams in the league. In Boston he’ll be playing significantly less games and I think he’ll do fine. The first round pick they get the future. I’m not saying they won this trade, but it’s definitely not as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. And I am often critical at Don Sweeney at times, but I think this was OK. If a team has an impending free agent that they cannot afford to re-sign, it makes sense to trade him for some assets. But does this apply to Ullmark? Why shouldn't a team spend money for two elite goaltenders if they are fortunate to have them? Suppose that the Bruins chose to re-sign Swayman for $8-9 million and Ullmark for $6-7 million. The salary cap will likely reach $100 million in three years. That would mean the Bruins would be spending 15% of their salary cap on goaltending. I know that's more than more teams do now, but I find it puzzling how little many spend on the most important position. On the other hand, it is refreshing to see the Bruins acquiring a draft pick. When was the last time they traded for a first-rounder? The pick they acquired is their own originally, the cost paid for the expensive rental of Tyler Bertuzzi.
