The reason it looks like so much hair is coming out is because the Furminator breaks off guard hairs and doesn’t just rake out undercoat. Not at all trying to be nasty, it’s just why so many people still swear by it even though it is inherently damaging. For my Berner I use a slicker brush, undercoat rake, then slicker brush again. Force dryers also work really well for us.
Yeah we’ve heard about that. He does have other brushes. We just use this one when he’s really shedding ( during blow outs) it just somewhat helps decrease the amount of fur clumps 😂
In the spring its a good idea to put the hair in any bushes in the garden the birds love it to warm up there nests I did it all the time after my rough collies hair, benny looks great good job.
From one Berner owner to another... this applies to other double coated breeds as well: the furminator breaks the fur (essentially cutting it) and is very damaging and rough. Over time his hair won't be as thick or soft and it can take up to a year to regrow. :( I would recommend (this is also what my breeder recommended) an undercoat rake, which is a glorious tool and basically the only thing you need to be able to upkeep your Berners coat. Along with maybe a fine tooth comb for the smaller areas, ears and legs. Obviously you don't have to take my advice, but join some FB groups about BMD and the ones that have owned Berners for years will all tell you the same. Just would hate to see Benny's coat ruined! ❤️
We also used that brush on our Bernese,,, worked great. Bath time was also a “drain clogger” amount of fur. We love your videos,, thank you for sharing.
Haha! I'm part of a Newfoundland dog group on Facebook, a giant breed that sheds every bit as much as Berners do, and someone once took all of the hair that had come out from brushing him, sculpted it into a rough dog shape the same size as their Newfie, there was THAT much hair, and then took a picture and posted it to the group, saying that their dog had spawned another dog, and that they'd decided to name him Hairy! Haha! You guys could easily do the same with Benny!
I swear no lie I go through the same thing with the hair (pet) and dirt in our house! Housekeeping was easy before getting our Bernedoodle and Border Collie mix. The Bernedoodle doesn’t shed but she collects the dirt from outdoors and it is everywhere and she black and seems clean but no we give her weekly baths and she seems to get dirty because her paws are so big! Hard times having pets and I can relate! But they’re worth it! ❤️ thanks for all the uploads lately we rewatch all the vlogs over and over and Kylie loves it! We say where’s Benny and she runs to the tv! It’s so cute and we say Benny is her boyfriend! 😂
Made me laugh all that fur reminded me of all the fur all over the roowhen I brushed and trimmed Snoopy, never ending job I usually had to finish the next day. That was so cute, Benny is thriving, and I love to watch him. 👍
We brush our 2 Berners every 4 weeks, in spring and autumn of course because of the change of fur more often, one is smooth and the other frizzy but both love it, mom and dad have endless time, just for us 🤭
Thank you for sharing! I have a Berner and he's a sweetheart but we are finding tumbleweeds of hair all over the house and I've been using all kinds of brushes but haven't had much luck
Aww, it’s a furry baby Benny Jr!! 💛 Definitely a cardio workout! Would be great if the brush had an attachment to keep the hair inside the brush, sort of like a vacuum. His coat looks so shiny afterwards😊
Benny Berner Awesome! My beloved Belgium Malinois also shed due to his dual coat. Brushing his coat was always an experience. It’s amazing how much hair they have! Benny is such a cutie pie. He absolutely melts my heart. Thank you for always making us smile🤗 Lots of hugs for Benny!
We live in a hot climate, and since we can't clip Berner's fur, the Furminator takes the fur off, breaking it or pulling the dead fur out - it gets rid of a lot of fur!! And he is cooler, which in my book, is most important during the summer months.
"Well, this is close enough to hug time. I'll take it! Wait, what was that? omg this is amazing, do my belly! My belly is done now do my butt! This is the best petting ever."
Hi, please do more research on that brush. It is not to be used on dogs that have an under coat. A double rake is the brush you need. He has such a gorgeous coat, I would hate to it get ruined.
Hi! We are new to your channel and enjoy watching Benny 😊...he is lovely. We have a 9 month old Bernese pup and just wondering if Benny is neutered. Trying to decided what we should do with our dog and when? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you🐕🦺❣️
Living in Brazil our Bernese Ophelia never developed an undercoat. I wonder about Benny since you are also in a warm climate, though in the United States. Any way, greetings from these here Brazilians. We love Benny!! Keep the videos coming!
I learned the hard way that a hairy dog, like Benny, should be brushed every day to avoid matting and skin sores. I ended up with an expensive vet bill and a dog that had to have his hair cut down to the skin, plus expensive skin antibiotic cream. I made a big mistake and actually hurt my dog. Learned a good lesson.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I bet there are a lot of people who don't know this and I'm one of them. I mean I know that it's important to brush your dog to help them shed but I didn't know the consequences of not doing it. Thank you very much!
Będzie łatwiej i mniej sierści ;-)
We love Benny vids, best thing on YT, he is so happy and fun. Could you do a tooth brushing vid? That could be hilarious... btw, for hair brushing, we use Chris Christensen Big G, a tad pricey but worth it... You guys do such a superb job with wonderful Benny! Thanks for sharing his adventures :)
Ah.. the joys of owning a northern breed Brush, vacuum & lint brush are your best friends At least he is a happy puppy when groomed Benny is a beautiful dog
I bought a furminator for my puppy too but I have read that it actually cuts the dog's hair instead of removing the undercoat. So I was excited to use it but now I am not sure anymore. Are you happy with it? Are you still using it regularly?
We have two berners, Greta is his size and Frans is about 110. The hair thing SO RIDICULOUS. Any and everything has hair on it. Greta hates being brushed, Frans loves it and any attention.
That dog must be mixed. I've never seen a male Bernese Mountain dog that small. He has a small, almost feminine head. I don't believe he is full blood Berner. No way. He's tiny. My female Berner is 50% larger than Benny Berner. Benny is mixed.
