After watching the series for the first time I'd say one of my favorite bits is the fact that people actually talk like real people and sometimes there is awkward silence because there's nothing to say. Acting with the eyes.
@@OldManPaxusYT I'm not Greg Inglis i just respect the guy enough to make him my pfp. better than putting your actual face up there letting everyone online know what you look like
Agreed. One might as well be sprinting. I think that dramas that don't portray violence this way (when they need to portray it) don't do their own stories full justice.
@@GribbleD I'm in pretty good shape, a few minutes of sparring will have the average man wheezing, now multiply that by 10 in a real fight. You definitely never have done either. The diff between the real thing, is you'll only realize just how out of breathe you are after it's over, if you're lucky enough to still be on your feet.
Thought the same thing when I saw Banshee; the protagonist did it fighting an mma champ. In flashbacks, the same move was done to him in prison when fighting the albino. WORTH WATCHING ALSO.
It would never work that's probably why you never thought of it, well choreographed though don't get me wrong but given how raw and realistic the rest tried to be it did seem out of place
@edd4131 It ends with Ray driving a cab in some no name town, attempting to put his 'previous' life behind him. He picks up 2 likely lads who try to rob him. The final scene is Ray, face smiling, turning to 'talk' to them about it. It can be read in 2 ways; Ray going smiling to his death, or Ray accepting who he is and embracing the violence.
This is one realistic fight scene! No fluff, no fancy moves, no oneliners. Fighting is damn tiring, and it shows. Damn brutal, too. Eye gouging, biting, it's all there. And those elbows to the fists were sick! Awesome scene.
Appreciate how this calls back to Rays talk in the school earlier where he tells a kid "its not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog" He's fighting a guy clearly a lot larger than he is but hes got that grit to pull himself through it It's little realizations like this for me that make me appreciate how fucking great this show is and how much thought Scott Ryan put in
The pain on Ray's face at seeing Boof lying motionless, reminds me of the way Ally broke up with him for his violent ways He mighta recognized that he brought danger to Boof with his lifestyle and choices, and his dog paid the price for it, like how Ally backed out seeing darkness in the future with Ray He's not _just_ mad at the 2 dudes who jumped him, he's mad at himself for bringing about the death of companion and being the bad thing Ally was scared of
@@DetroitBuffs Done right, it probably won't hurt much or do much damage. The base of your elbow towards your forearm can take a beating. Try using your palm or your knuckles to cause it some pain, and you probably can't do much unless you got hands of steel.
Huh, I think that's the first time I've ever seen what Jeet Kun Do folks call "destructions," i.e. blocking strikes by attacking the attack (hit his fist with your elbow, etc.) shown on film. Cool.
@@Ten_Mil_Will does this move really work in practice? Every time I hit my elbow it hurts like hell. I know Ray is one hell of a fighter and a killer, but it’s still must be really painful block punches like this, right? Or I missing something?
@MrChef-uu2ff Good question! The simple reality is - NO part of your body is designed to make hard impact with a part of sum1els's body. The general rule of thumb is "Hard to soft, soft to hard". You use the soft parts of your body (palm heel) to impact their hard parts (jaw) and your hard parts (closed fist) to impact their soft spots (body, throat). "Limb destruction" DOES violate that "rule" as you are using your hard (elbow) against their hard (fist). However, the mechanics are definitely in favor of the elbow and YES it is likely to cause damage to the fist while only a little bump to the elbow. Another hard/hard example would be elbowing sum1 in the jaw. Is it gonna hurt your elbow? Yea, a little BUT not nearly as bad as it is gonna hurt that jaw. This is where "conditioning" comes in. As stated - your body is NOT made for this BUT you can alter it to be more suited for it 👍
I'll tell you right now this is easily one of the most realistic fight sequences of any TV show or movie. Exhaustion, eye gouge, hair pulling. In a real fight nothing is off the table.
The genius of this series… This show could make you laugh and the next second take you unapologetically into gritty reality. Here, as the soundtrack is perfectly timed to the first hits, you get jarred into the fact that this isn’t a school fist fight ending in knockout. You are going to watch two men try to beat each other to death by any means possible. Nothing fair; no honour code. Brilliant, brilliant cinema.
I mean, they had the honor to have a gentlemens fight to the death, and put down the guns. The honor here is in sticking to that. Neither of them ran for the guns or tried to otherwise use a weapon.
I absolutely loved this TV series. I told a few people at my work that they needed to see it and you know when you say that to people they never listen and you think they ain't going to watch it lol But a few days later a couple of them came in and said they were hooked and couldn't stop watching it. First time people have taken my advice on something to watch and I'm glad they did.
Just the best. My son watched it and told me and his mum. We both binge watched it and we both loved it, despite the violence. Ray is the greatest anti hero there's ever been.
When the Biker knows he's done for and Ray just says "come on" is a masterful piece of script and acting. Too many shows would have filled the scene with too much bravado and unnecessary guff explaining things to the nth degree. This show had a sense of total realism about it (ok I'll concede it did lose that at times as the script required) as though somebody on the team had a pretty good working knowledge of how these things go down IRL.
No lie they really did do well on this and shockingly accurate, ran into some Aussie bushmen and bikers the made old chopper look tame. Love that wonderful crazy content and its people, found one of my oldest and best mates in that country, we’re are the only ones left still breathing out of 8 of us.
Yea, having seen the entire series, id be careful around their "subject matter expert"s or their "consultants". There are dudes somewhere on set (and off cam) that actually know what's up.
I’m glad more people started watching this show. This is what shows show be, buildup or suspense and then satisfying action, the aussies know how to make a show.
@@grt49er He used his elbows. Incredibly its actually martial arts technique. I think Wing Chun uses it. First time I think I've ever seen it in a fight. Pretty awesome. That's guys fists were shattered I bet.
“I didn’t hear no bell” Also it don’t really hurt in the moment, adrenaline and shock stop the real pain from kicking in, have had a eye pop out before, still won the fight but the recovery was awful
@@JohnSmith-cg2ve was just getting beat on pretty bad by 2 guys, while I put 1 out the fight their buddies trying to do the same to me, after I got done with the first I got onto the second guy, he couldn’t take it as good as he gave it though, if either of them aren’t crippled after that day I’ll be shocked and I hope they are so they have something to remember me by. Was maybe 23-24 and me and them didn’t see eye to eye on things for various reasons and they thought they could resort to violence. Word of advice: buy a coin sleeve if your bank won’t give you some and always keep a roll of the largest coins you can on you at all times, great for parking, vending machines and work just as good if not better than brass knuckles when you palm them before a punch. my old man taught me that when I was young and getting jumped in school.
@@RomanvonUngernSternbergnrmfvus This is painfully realistic advice. I heard something similar from my older brother who used to hop trains across the northern US, and got jumped more than once. In a real street fight, it's not always the person with the most strength or skill who wins, but the one who's most willing to greivously injure the other. Why punch a face when you can punch their throat? Gouge out eyes, grab and twist fingers til they tear out. Whoever is willing do to these things will usually win, and when your life is at risk, all's fair. EDIT: Also why in a fight with blades, slashing is more effective than stabbing. People with stab wounds might die later, but are still a threat in the moment. People with huge (but superficial) cuts slashed across their arms, face, and bodies, will see the blood. Feel the pain. And be more likely to run. And live. Someone stabbed in the lung might only believe they got punched, even though their life is at greater risk.
I thought that too - that was implausible (but I guess he has to see his dog and then go back for 'afters' so a bit of artistic licence..lol) - it's a pity because up to that it was an unsually 'realistic' punch up...
After Ray initially has the opponent physically stunned with punches 👊 and strikes, Ray could have easily stamped kick the front or side of the opponent's knee joint, incapacitating the big guy!!! Ray used the front stomp kick to the knee of another guy who jumped out of a van in a road rage who wanted to fight Ray before!!! In this scene, the big guy was just standing there stunned with his legs straight for a moment and was wide open for a debilitating powerful kick to his knee or lower leg!!! Ray could have been home free after taking out his legs and could have avoided getting his eye gouged out!!!😮
I cannot imagine anything more terrifying than a fight to the death. No weapons, no one else around, just your fists, feet, teeth, and wits. First of all, it’s going to take forever (unless one of you gets lucky.) Second, it’s going to be f*cking BRUTAL. And third, it’s just a terrifying concept isn’t it? This show did a decent job but I think in real life once that big guy got on top of Ray, he would’ve been majorly screwed… especially since it’s never hinted or implied that Ray had any wrestling or grappling training (though I could be entirely wrong because he definitely knows how to fight)
@@robertjames1324 if the guy is 225lbs and the other guy is 180lbs and they’re both untrained in grappling I highly doubt he’d have much success. Just because YOU’VE “done a bit” doesn’t mean anything in relation to what I said.
His losses relate to his normal side of life. He never loses when he goes into hitman mode. The dog was meant to be a family pet, not a tool to be used in his career. See how that ended? Ray is Australian John Wick.
@@sevirz13 I used to train with 138kg guy, I was 80-85kg. He had trained the same amount of time as me and had beaten me consistently, before I worked out that you can never let bigger guys get on top of you. Once I worked out how to prevent that, I tapped him pretty much every time. Just never stop moving. I agree with your point though, you're basically f***** off your back if they guy is big and knows what he's doing.
Just look at the way Ray puts his gun down very carefully, knowing he's gonna win and come back to pick it up. It's not the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog. Nuff said.
Some one else has said it but I will say it again , this show was an absolute GEM a diamond of a series and I wish it had more than three seasons ,seriously for me it was up there with the Sopranos , lillyhammer and a few others, it really was exceelent entertainment if only more shows were as high quality and sublime as Mr Inbetween
should have left in the lead-in ambush his dog saves him from with its brief gunfight, the whole scene flows together so organically and is what gives this engagement with the last ambusher extra dramatic weight
Ray really just fked up a guy 3 times his size 😂😂 like when that kid says Rays too small to be a bouncer he really showed it aint about the size of the dog in the fight
Oh man i miss this show! Oh poor Mr Inbetween...if ONLY he knew how to kick!!! I suppose... grappling would have helped too... that eye thing, should NEVER have happened!
