Agreed. I was a delivery driver for a West Philly Chinese family-owned restaurant. The owners know nothing about American sports. Their son was in elementary school when the Phillies signed Harper. I bought the boy a Bryce Harper tee shirt at that time so that he would seem more “cool” with his classmates. I turned him onto the Phillies. He loved wearing that shirt. The dad mistakenly got him a right handed glove but the kid is a lefty so I bought the kid a used lefty glove. The boy is age 14 now in high school. I’m sure he’s outgrown that shirt by now. I no longer work there but I’m pretty sure he’s still a Harper fan!
And if the Phillies win it all, that home run is going to be up there with Philly Philly as one of the greatest singular sporting moments in Philly sports history
@@paullabadie1794 "Theres no crying in baseball" 😆--- BS. When I watching this live...Bryce kept fouling off...I'm thinking "My god, he's connecting and about to crush a homerun!" (Hoping at least...or a big time base hit) And when he cracked that, all the emotions poured out, especially after the 3rd out, top of the 9th. Just incredible! The past 2 games on Sat and especially last night, holy crap...they were roller coasters of emotions. Nerves and joy.
Bryce Harper's one of those most valuable player winners who actually act like it when it counts. You could probably count the number of players like him on your fingers. The MVP award he won in 2021 was for him nearly dragging a team to the playoffs that had no business being there. His second-half almost got a mediocre team there. The team only slightly improved the next season, and he was able to get them to the world series. It seems that most of his doubles and home runs in 2021 came with the team trailing by a run or with the score tied.
And to think I had idiots telling me we needed to deal him at the trade deadline because we pay him too much. Some people are a waste of oxygen! Go Phils!!!!!
@@billnolte8644 these new dudes are getting contracts like Harper after one year in the bigs who absolutely no promise the return on investment will ever come close to this
@@billnolte8644 that's fuckin moron on WIP joe Giglio said the Phils should've offered him to Washington for Soto. First off, I'm pretty sure has a NTC in his contract. So offering him up does nothing unless he agrees to go there. Some radio personalities are jackasses and just say stupid shot for attention.
@@carado1984 I'm a huge Phillies fan who lives in...wait for it...San Diego! You are spot on about "new dudes getting big contracts". Fernando Tatis Jr. is a self absorbed child. Can't believe the Pads gave him a huge contract. He's done nothing. Well...except crash a motorcycle/break his wrist during the off season and not tell the team until spring training. And oh yeah...then he gets nabbed for PEDs and gets suspended. He will never be in Harper's league...never.
Everything about this is pure greatness. The patience, the resilience, the clutch factor. Few players in MLB history have been as locked in as Bryce Harper is right now. The fact that he was able to foul off fastball after fastball and was then able to spit on that change up while not being fooled was amazing enough. But to immediately crush the next fastball that he sees in the biggest moment of the game is legendary stuff. This will live in MLB history forever.
@@jefferydellinger7422 - Icewater - Seemingly, Harper slowed down the moment, even as he approached the plate, with the pine tar. The great ones do that. Calmness resonated throughout the entire at bat and plate appearance.
I was astounded when he wasn't fooled by that nasty change-up because damn near every ballplayer alive would've chased it. He didn't even come close to biting on it which is amazing in of itself.....and then BOOOOOM! He's cemented his legacy in Philly on that one hit alone...although he's made it a habit from the moment he's arrived here.
Bryce Harper is one of the few players that would fit in in the 1930s through the 1960s in baseball. You can just imagine this guy being on the 1965 Phillies.
I still don’t know how he was able to lay off of that 92 MPH changeup after fouling off a 98 MPH fastball almost in that same spot the pitch before. So impressive
This was out of a movie. 2 strikes, World Series on the line. Def will go down as one of the all time greats in this city. Everyone was on complete edge. I haven’t really watched baseball in years but this drew me back in.
Here I am at 4:30am est with my first ever youtube comment. The moment is more than deserving and just can't get enough. This Juggernaut is worth every penny and then some. Career defining at bat and a decade defining swing. Him in the dugout afterwards saying in disbelief "I just did that" is the best reaction I have ever witnessed. The word clutch doesn't do it justice. Dude is playing out of his mind. Unbelievable.
He’s been waiting 10 years to show everyone that when you need him to be clutch he will exceed expectations. I’m blown away by his performance during these playoff’s.
@@mbrum3230 some announcers? They didn’t say anything. That was an insanely good pitch with 2 strikes to lay off of. Especially with emotions so high. You must be fun at parties lol
Drove to an empty parking lot to watch the rest of the game because my wife wanted to pick a fight with me and I enjoyed watching this by myself in my car yelling like a maniac what a beautiful moment I should watch the World Series this way
Those opposite field shots are elite! True story: In 2012 I took my daughter to her first Cardinals game. They were playing the nationals. I told her maybe we would catch a Bryce Harper foul ball. Well, long story short, it happened.
that’s actually really wholesome. i can’t remember what team the nationals were playing when i went to my first game (nats fan) and harper clobbered one right where we were sitting
Absolutely a first ballot Hall of Fame player prior to this...now he is a classical hero of an epic oddesey, a man of renown....someone to be feared, loved and respected...
@@mariopalos9238 My statement wasn't an emotional one. I invite you to look at his career OPS and WAR, current home run pace and numerous other stats as compared to those at his position currently in the Hall of Fame.
It took me forever to find the full 8th inning at bat clip.. thanks for the post. we need the full 7th and 8th inning clip to fully capture the level of emotions involved. the announcers did a good job talking it up. but in the moment we are still living the nightmARE of that brief rain storm in 7th that somehow caused two extreme, rare pitching errors that caused a man on second base to get home and wipe away the tie score. that bullshit rain storm almost wiped away our hope for that game. then somehow this man puts his foot down and said, "the gods can cause the rain to make the ball slip, but they can't control the final outcome of this game, not today, today we win".....i swear Bryce almost looks like Kratos in GofW Ragnarok
For some unknown reason, the baseball Gods have been shining down on the Phillies all playoffs from scoring six runs in the 9th of game 1 against the Cards, to the base hit up the middle that deflected off of second base, and everything in between. As soon as JT got that single, I just knew Harper was gonna hit a HR. Its like destiny! All I ask is for four more wins baseball Gods!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Die hard NY Mets fan here - what an exciting team the Phillies became in the playoffs. It’s been impossible to suppress feelings of excitement when watching this ball club. Love the energy in the stadium as well, incredible!
In my opinion, the foul at 2:45 on the 100 MPH letter high fastball outside was the key swing. How he fouled that off is amazing to me, as nobody touches that pitch. Laying off the sinker/change was also huge, but getting a piece of this pitch was just awesome.
Yeah, people who know the game well are astounded by that ENTIRE AB. He was already well on his way but that AB cemented his legacy as an absolute LEGEND in Philly. That kind of thing rarely happens in real life....this was like a Hollywood ending.
@@hondaphan4172 Except it wasn't an ending. It was only the eighth inning. It was like me being at the 1976 ALCS and the 1977 WS. Chambliss's ninth inning homer to win it for the Yanks will forever be cemented in my mind. Jackson's feat a year later was a greater one, but it was also in the eighth inning and the Yankees already had a good lead. Jackson's homers became legendary and Chambliss's will only be a Yankees fan memory, but the hysterics were greater for Chambliss's HR. My brother lives in Philly and I was rooting for Harper and the Phils, and I'm thrilled he hit it. But it wasn't like a Hollywood ending.
@@howie9751 You're entitled to your opinion but I don't agree with you. The way things were going in the game and under those weather conditions I wasn't giving us much a chance if he didn't come through in a big way. Nobody wanted to go back to SD where anything could happen.
I hate the in dugout interviews before the game is over. Let these guys play the game out and celebrate if they win they don't need some fucking reporter in their face after each home run before the game is over
Absolutely incredible poise. Even among great hitters not many would have laid off that changeup. Fantastic pitch. World class at bat when they needed it the most.
Most team sports, the game winning drive doesn't rely completely on one person's shoulders. But in baseball it does. Imagine the feeling he had rounding those bases with the crowd cheering for him alone. What a moment
I don't know how people can hate this guy lol. I'm not a huge baseball fan (usually only the playoffs) but Harper from the day he came in the league till now is an awesome character arch. Something different about dude.
I had season tickets for the 2008-2019 seasons. I was at every Phillies home game in the 2008 play-offs, I was at every Home game in the 2008 world series.... and being at the winning 2008 world series game, this has GOT THAT FEELING ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!! 🤘🙌 LETS GO PHILLIES!!!
John Smoltz was a prophet this entire post season. He basically called both of Bryson Stott's big hits when he said they can't throw off speed and speed up Stott's bat right before they did. In this AB he said you can't miss away because Bryce can take it out that way (around 3:00 mark). Suarez missed away and Bryce launched it.
I'm a ride or die MN Twins fan and I've never in my life got excited for another cities baseball team....... UNTIL NOW!! I absolutely love this Phillies run and everything about it especially the fans and players singing "Dancing on my own" it actually makes me emotional 🥲 I want them to win the World Series so frickin bad lol!!!!
So did I. I wanted the Phillies to win so bad, but Houston's a machine. Sometimes a 106 win team actually acts like it. The Phillies got lucky enough to get through 1 such team, it would have been asking a whole lot for them to get through two of them. I always said that it would be nearly impossible to beat Justin Verlander two times and Valdez two times. That was what had to happen for them to win the series. I give them credit for getting Verlander once.
Man, I love how he just embraced the moment.. He took his time coming to the at bat, he took his time with the at bat and when he belted it, he took his time running the bases. It’s like he always knew. The dude is a legend
They said it on the padres broadcast, but as soon as he took that filthy 1-2 change up I knew he was going deep. I was telling my mom we win the game after he took that pitch. What an amazing moment from one of the greatest hitters of all time. Can’t wait to see what we do in the postseason this year.
@@jamiljamillmeadows3977 he just proved during this AB just how good he truly is and that he’s for sure lived up to the hype. Better than trout…. in my opinion
That shot from behind Harper…. Jesus Christ what an angle. THATS. The single greatest shot of all that. Camera pointed exactly where the ball was gonna go. God it gives me chills. The way Harper walks off like “wtf did you think I was gonna go d*ckhead I smacked that jawn “
Baseball was one of those sports I never really played as a kid so I don't understand all the intricacies of the at-bat but I can recognize a legendary moment in his career. Congrats Bryce! Honorary Jawn for life.
@@andyteri777 Phillies fans are almost as bad as Yankees fans. Matt Carpenter received DEATH THREATS after going 0-for-9 with 7 strikeouts in the ALCS, after braindead looney tune Yankees fans completely forget that he had one of the greatest regular seasons in history. If Bryce Harper chokes in the World Series, Phillies fans will be the exact same way.
Honestly his walk-off Grand slam 3 years ago, and his game tying Grand slam made him legendary. How about his MVP season where he nearly drugged the team to the playoffs when they had nothing around him? 2021 and the Phillies not making the playoffs was not Bryce Harper's fault, it was his fault that they were even close. I think last year is what made him a legend. Many times he came up with his team down by one run or the score tied, he flipped the score with his home runs and doubles.
I have lived in Seattle for over 51 years so not a huge baseball fan but when I saw Harper come to bat and hit that homerun, I had goosebumps. As a huge sports fan, that was the sports moment of the year so far.
What a moment! I have to admit, I was skeptical about Philly paying Bryce Harper all that money. I was wrong. Harper has had a sensational post season. It’s wonderful to see people get to be so happy about something.
To give a little background, I am a Nationals fan. Not die hard, but a fan. So I hated when Bryce left, but I knew it would happen, it always does with the Nats. I watched all of this series, and the wildcard before. You Philly fans have a really great chance of a WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP. Your team looks so good, and that Homer that Bryce hit was an EPIC moment in his career, in my opinion. You could just feel it getting ready to happen. So congrats to him, and the fans of Philly. Don't tell anyone here, but I'll be rooting for you guys. Until next season when we hand you your a$$es. 😁😁😁 Good luck in the series.
@@hondaphan4172 Of course who could forget him.He was on fire in the NFC Championship and the SB.Too bad the Eagles chose Wentz over him.But could be a blessing in disguise 'coz the Eagle have found a franchise qb in Hurts. But that's another story.
Since I was a kid, I always got goosebumps hearing the call of Thomson's pennant winner at the Polo Grounds. As I got older, it's been just as much fun watching banged up Kirk Gibson battle the great Eckersley for what seemed a half hour before hitting that game winner (really effectively ending that Series in game 1) whether listening to Vin Scully call it or the nearly as great Jack Buck screaming "it's gonna be a home run!!! I don't believe what I just saw!!". But as a Phils fan since Callison won the '64 All Star game with his own dramatic shot (yes, that precise moment), what Harper did yesterday, let's leave out all the cliches, this is the peak of the mountain. Houston better bring its A game to even extend the Series to five. Jump on his back, boys, Bryce is @#$%&%*# locked in. Did you see that at bat. Locked and loaded. "The swing of his life" indeed.
...the Phillies are going to the world series!!!! Let's goooooo!!!!! Bryce you are the man my guy!!!! You cannot mess with destiny and this team is destined to win it all!!!💯💯💯
