The same AB, he wore Fernandez' helmet and took a pitch while batting right-handed. Such a great moment. As a Braves fan, I couldn't even be mad at the Piazza dinger in the first game after 9/11.
@@DdotRay86 Jose Fernandez, who was a young rising star pitcher for the Miami Marlins baseball team, was killed in a boating accident. He was a team favorite and a fan favorite, even fans of other teams and a favorite of other players. Dee Gordon (a left-handed batter) was the leadoff batter of their first game following Fernandez' death and stood in the right-handed battery's box, and I believe he was wearing Fernandez' batting helmet, to take the first pitch of the game. This was followed by Gordon hitting a home run, which was (and still is) a very emotional moment for him and his teammates, and baseball fans alike.
@@alexnas9634 he still died in a terrible way. Just being stupid. They were in complete right to be upset about it. He was their teammate. Their friend. Their brother.
Joe Buck borrowed that from his father, Jack Buck, who made that call when Kirby Puckett walked off Game 6 of the 1991 World Series. A perfect homage in a perfect moment.
"Freese hits it in the air to center, we will see you tomorrow night." Gives me chills every time. I was only a toddler when that happened, i really wish i could have been old enough to remember it.
As someone who IS old enough to remember it, that was an incredible moment. Game 6 of the WS with the Cardinals down 3-2 they get the walk-off to force game 7 which they ended up winning to win the chip.
Really might be baseballs most hype moment EVER. The stare and bat flip is so cold, the call is perfect, and the crowd shot where it looks like the building is shaking is so insane.
Agreed. I get a secondhand adrenaline high from watching it. Also I think Gomez’s series ender against the D’Backs deserved to be on here. I remember the cameras shaking for that one.
The Bautista home run and bat flip regardless if you agree with it or not was actually the last highlight of his career. The following years he declined until he was out of baseball in 2018. It’s almost like the baseball gods got him back for that?
It's important to remember that homer was closure on a crazy almost 1 hour long 7th inning where it felt like the umps were against the Jays but then some lucky plays got some Jays on base for Bautista to crush it.
4:52 the right fielder flipping over the wall like a cartoon character gets me every time. And the home run was so big that his effort gets not even a mention from the commentators.
Those mid 2010s blue jays teams had an excitement level I’m not sure I’ve seen elsewhere in modern baseball. That Bautista home run is the most insane I’ve ever seen a baseball stadium become
You don't watch much baseball I see. Have you ever heard of Jose Altuve? You know how many walkoffs he has? The Jay's are always overrated they are the cowboys of the mlb BOUNCED every time in the first round
@@garrettammann1661 why does literally every astros fan like shitting on others for no reason? the amount of homers isn't what he's talking about, it's the excitement level. some people are pathetic, man.
I was at Game 4(?) in LA when they beat the Dodgers after losing pretty bad the night before. With my brother in law who is and always has been a diehard Cubs fan, getting to watch him fly that W flag so proudly with the biggest shit eating grin on his face will live with me forever.
As a Cleveland fan, DAMN! Yall deserve it. But still to have that comeback happen to us in baseball then we actually do it against GS in the same year! Only f**king Cleveland man😂😂😂
I'm really surprised the Red Sox winning the 2004 world series doesn't live rent free on these videos. Even if you aren't a Sox fan, that moment was one of the most amazing times.
I was at the game where Mike Piazza hit that home run. When the ball cleared the fence, every single human screamed in joy and the stadium was shaking from everyone jumping. Incredible moment.
I remember being a little kid and that was one of my first great Detroit sports moments that I vividly remember. Still get chills to this day. Especially after losing 119 games three seasons earlier
I was at the Nats last game of the season in 2016 and it was a very emotional time there too. I wrote JF16 on the side of my Nats cap in silver sharpie. I still have it and think of him sometimes
More impressive & touching to me than Dee’s homer, was Bartolo’s 85 MPH fastball right down the middle. Look at his body language after Dee makes contact.. I’m convinced Bartolo served him up a meatball & gifted him that opportunity.
The night where Baltimore came from behind to beat Boston which opened the door for Tampa to take the division away from the Yankees is still one of the greatest series of events in baseball history. Regardless of who you cheer for, true lovers of the game will appreciate forever the way that night unfolded.
I mean ALWAYS the final out of the Cubs World Series. BUT, an honorable mention to me is Javier Baez hitting the HR against Cueto in the 8th of the NLDS
Coming from a Braves fan, Piazza's HR was perfect. It's the only time the Mets beat us that I was happy with, because the city of NY needed that way more than the Braves.
Dee’s home run was very touching, but Piazza’s was about a nation that was mourning and frightened and angry. We needed some normal. Baseball is that normal.
As a Braves fan that Chipper Jones walk off was amazing. His last great moment. I hate that his final season ended in a infield fly. Chipper will always be my favorite player.
i remember it so vividly My dad and uncles all in the living room watching the mets yankees game then i hear it “did he get another one, gallo is on his way back it’s gone‼️‼️‼️” one of my favorite moments ever
I'm from Cleveland so this is completely unbiased, but I hope that Pittsburgh and Baltimore get back to the playoffs. I believe that baseball is a better sport and more exciting when those teams are good. Even though their attendance may not always be there, they have incredible fans that deserve a winner.
Jeter’s Final Game still chokes me up everytime I literally been watching the Yankees since I was Born in 96 It has been a blessing and honor to have watched him for so many years
For anyone to young to remember or know mike piazzas home run 9/21 2001 TEN days after the worst attack since Pearl Harbor he for that moment helped ease a country. Kids today don’t know the world before 9/11 everything changed that day and for mike one of the most beloved players to hit a homerun like that it was incredible
(disclaimer: I am a Jays fan just outside Toronto, and was watching the game live) The Bautista home run needs to be watched in the context of the entire inning which was over an hour long and full of emotion from both sides. Top of the inning had a throw by Jays catcher Martin to second go off the batter's bat, and allowed the go-ahead run to score. Umpire review held the call of no batter interference. Three errors by the Rangers in the bottom half, should have ended the inning before Bautista even came to the plate. Every other team sport has celebrations for great plays. This was easily a top 10 moment in baseball history. It was bat flip worthy.
Kinda disappointed I didn't see Joe Carter's world series winning home run. Such a great call, too, "Touch em all Joe, you'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!"
2 minutes in…I’m not crying, you’re crying 🥺😭. Jose’s death rocked sports news for weeks. No one could believe it. Someone guaranteed for MVPs and a Hall of Fame career cut far too short. RIP
Updated things I would include: Judge 62, German PG, that guy who hit his 700th last year, and Aaron judges walk off against the blue jays Yes I know there’s kinda a yankee bias but I don’t keep up the rest of the majors too much 😭 the judge walk off always gives me goose bumps
