After some thought, I re-rivetted the timing side mainshaft rivets to give a tight and true fit for the timing side mainshaft in the flywheel once more, but I also intended to let some bearing fitting compound find it's way into any areas between the two where there might have been a tiny clearance, as a bit of insurance.

I remember using a special super glue to make up a model steam engine crankshaft. It was a black think liquid and took a while to set but it worked great. That was maybe 20 years ago and the crank is still good today.

I had never thought of rivets being used for this. We live and learn.

Mmm, 'bearing fit'? Surely a bore out and sleeve would've been the more 'correct' engineering solution but Paul must be confident that the clearance is not a worry. Wondering how the the bearing will be centred in the recess. Do the rivets assure this, perhaps all will become clearer on assembly.

Bearing compound? I'm no engineer so it's not surprising I've not heard of it, but I am a garden shed fiddler who "usually" manages to fix most things...more or less, please more information on the bearing compound Paul. 😊

No need to panic when there is a genuine fitter on the job.

Just asking Paul do you think it is a normal fly wheel or one that’s been lightened? Again top work !

Thanks, Tim! I think the flywheels are standard by the looks of them.
