Hello viewers, after a long absence I may be back for a while. Thank you for remaining faithful and thank you to the new subscribers.
This video shows the removal of an extremely difficult sludge trap plug which is part of an A10 with a needle roller/ball thrust conversion, more of which you will see in the next video.
Thanks for watching and keep sending in those comments.
Best wishes, Ade.

First time viewer Ade. Just came from the basement and a successful plug removal! Only have hand tools. Ground down drag link socket to fit and proceeded to bend the metal and twist it out...ouch. one shot deal. Needed another way....Took 1/8" bit drilled series of holes around perimeter then along the slot for screwdriver so close that I could create a slot. Used that slot to drive a different large screwdriver down into. Heated with propane and with vicegrips on the screwdriver was able to cleanly back out the plug. Took about 40 minutes. Pain in the ass but satisfying as you well know! Thanks for posting. -Paul P.s. I think the series of holes around perimeter allowed the heat to penetrate because it was only propane.

Great to see you back ade I've heard a few stories about srm but can't imagine them doing bodg like that it's a wonder it didn't shack it shelf to bits nice work on getting it out

Thanks for continuing to follow the channel. On the next video you see more of this engine and I throw open the question if anyone knows the original converter. I don't think it's SRM having looked more at their method. I hope to do a similar conversion soon to some scrap bits I have acquired over the last couple of years, with some improvements. It may even end up as a Michael Waller style bitsa scrambler one day...Best wishes, Ade.

Hi Peter, thanks for returning to the channel. I suppose to the person fitting it, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Myself, I would have just hung one in the oil tank if I thought it would help. Be back again soon with some more stuff, best wishes, Ade

Try a nut over the plug and weld it in the center with arc rod not mig , fill to the top . use spanner. If no joy use impact gun , works everytime
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering Месяц назад
Normally I would agree, but in this case the "plug" was a magnet, glued in. Had I known, I could probably knocked it out from the opposite side 🙄

Have you tried placing a large nut over the plug, welding it in place from the inside and then using a wrench or air impact to remove?
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering Год назад
Unfortunately it was a magnet! So not weldable ☹️
@marksavill9580
@marksavill9580 3 года назад
could heat without annealing have been used to soften the plug a little?
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 3 года назад
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼. In the event it wasn't 'metal' but a magnet which has more of a ceramic like property.

Please can you help I need to know the size and tread of the sludge trap plug on a bsa a7 small bearing crankshaft so I can order a tap to chase the treads out Thanks Chris
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 3 года назад
Hi Chris. Thanks for what is actually a very interesting question. I've just taken a plug out of my small bearing crank to find you the answer...not that straight forward though! Now measuring the OD of the plug I get 0.612" allowing for slightly flat threads that makes it 5/8". Thread pitch comes out at 18TPI with my gauges (tried several) making it 5/8 UNF, now I know unified was used a lot earlier than some realise, as was metric, on british bikes, but this seems odd. Burton bike bits list it as 20 tpi here: www.burtonbikebits.net/TRIStock.pdf The forums talk of 20 tpi also: www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?topic=5484.0 So probably not a lot of use to you unfortunately. it would be interesting to buy a new 65-0615 plug to see what they sold. Anyone else any thoughts?
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 3 года назад
Update : I have found my unified thread gauge (closer to cycle angle) , checked inside the crank thread, 20 tpi, so 5/8 x 20 cei . The plug is possibly damaged from removal to make it appear to be 18tpi??? Unless BSA did something odd like an 18tpi plug in a 20tpi hole to make it self sealing and locking? I've got a new plug on the way, genuine old stock BSA, because this is bugging me now! I might do a short video on it even. Best wishes, Ade.
@chriskenny5215
@chriskenny5215 3 года назад
Ade thank you for your diligent, It is in fact 5/8 20tpi cycle thread I ordered a set of taps and checked the taps against the new plug threads and they matched so threads cleaned out and new plugs fitted Thanks for the information

Thank you for saying this, I completely agree , this was a horrible bodge, which highlights that all sorts of things can happen to engines in the decades after good work was done, and totally destroy all the care and quality that was put in by the original builder. Many thanks for watching, please do follow the other videos on this engine and let me know any thoughts . Best wishes, Ade.
