Good repair and clean up dude. That TT will last for many more years.

Good work. That was a rather more extensive break down of the mechanism than usually done. Glad you got it all back together again. Thanks 😀👍

As a repairman I started with these BSR turntables, and I learned that those with the plastic platter, if used with the record changer function, when the record falls on the platter it slips for an instant before spinning. And by doing this over time the disc gets ruined very easily.

I have four of those auto change record players. One from the 1950s, (Dansette valve) one from 1960s, (Bush valve) and two from 1970s.( Fidelity transitor) Still working and better than the rubbish they produce now. They have been repaired in their time of course but continue to work. They can be restored, unlike the new ones you get now.

@9:11 Making the modification with the toilet paper was not needed, the reason why the arm was going right a bit more was the anti-skate doing its job, being that there was no cartridge at that time, there was no catalyst weight to the tonearm, therefore the anti-skate weight was higher than the tonearm weight, especially with the anti-skate at its lowest setting! Not it would of pulled more right faster if the anti-skate was at the highest setting "6"! Anti-skate should be set the same as tracking weight by rule of thumb! Otherwise I did enjoy the video!

Dagness Agnes,, we remember the BSR turntable on our mum's old 'Singer' radio/record player... Think our dad's music center had one as well. We still have one of those 45 adapters you stuck on the record changer spindle. Back in the '90s we converted a Panasonic half-sized turntable from ceramic to magnetic to work with our then system - didn't know ceramics had a line level output. It worked but was eventually replaced with a nice Technics deck we'd found released in the wild. Still have the Technics...

I used to have an all-in-one GEC Sound-deck from the 70's which used a ceramic cartridge which I also converted to magnetic. I had preamp, which was powered of the main transformer, and the preamp's output was connected to the amplifier's phono input. It worked really well. Although it too used a BSR changer, it was much better than the one I have now, it had a proper s shaped tonearm and counterweight, and metal turntable. Plus I didn't get any hum problems with that, as the turntable could shield the cartridge from the motor noise. I wish I still had it.

@chezsnailez 2 года назад
@@CoolDudeClem ~ wouldn't grounding (earthing) the record player help? Most magnetic cartridge players need to be grounded to the receiver/amplifier to reduce hum. Just a thought...

@@chezsnailez Yes, you can with a separate thin wire coming from the 2 pole motor directly screwed into the back of your amplifier or receiver which generally has these terminals in the back when built.

Well done Clem! I guess that you may have been inspired by Radiotvphononut to attempt that restoration. Would I be right in thinking that you could play up to seven Vinyl Records (only one side of each one of course) as long as they were all the same size and speed in sequence with the Autochange Function?
@douglasallen9428
@douglasallen9428 2 года назад
I think you can play up to six records on one of these units (depending on size and speed).
@CoolDudeClem
@CoolDudeClem 2 года назад
I wouldn't stack any more than 5 records, 7 might be possible if they are thin.

The reason why you had magnetic interference with that Audio-Technica cartridge is because of the 2-pole motor installed. Your C-123R2 deck has the mounting holes for the 4-pole motor (almost every BSR deck has both mounting holes for 2-pole and 4-pole motors. You will need to get a 4-pole motor from any other BSR turntable (240v/50Hz) so you can use the magnetic cartridge. I may make a video when I upgrade my BSR MA-50 (P-189) to a 4-pole motor. My P-189 deck was sold as a manual turntable, so the mechanism looks just like 6:45 except with the part where the tonearm pivots.

Hi Clem, these autochangers do work OK with shellac 78s. In fact, I have an old Garrard one which was designed primarily for 78s. They don't break when they drop down, nor do they break the record underneath. The only issues with 78s are (as with yours) some don't have a lead-in grove, and indeed some have no lead-out, either. Also you need to be sure the 78 is not cracked or chipped before you play it, which could ruin your stylus.
@CoolDudeClem
@CoolDudeClem 2 года назад
I've accidentally broken 78's a few times as a kid, most of them I could just tape them back together, just making sure the grooves line up. most of them actually still played.

Hello Clem, Like your channel, I have been a long time loyal sub to radiotvphononut. I do know his real name, from an old video, sorry, as he has never said his name, I really can't say. Good fix on the BSR. I see a lot of good videos coming up, Thanks for all your effort to create them. All the Best, Cass.

Hi, thanks for the video! I am doing a restoration of a BSR and am having trouble getting the tone arm to move horizontally when using the automatic function. I found a spring in the bottom of the box and am not sure where it goes; I'm guessing it's the cause of my problem. Would you be able to share the pictures you took of your turntable in its various states? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Why? Those old record players are far superior to the crap they churn out nowadays. Better to have an origional record player. They lasted for decades and can be repaired.

I see your doing a proper restoration, but to get more views you should throw it in the river and leave it to rust for 3 months then do a fake restoration. I don't know if you have come across any of those fake restorations people get suckered in by them.
