It's truly sad Roddenberry could not be convinced to step back and let Berman take over. DS9 was a crown jewel for Star Trek. I can only imagine what would have been like if TNG, Voyager and DS9 were all being broadcast simultaneously. Three nights a week of Star Trek! Three different views of that universe? Would have been incredible! Unfortunately, Star Trek never really recovered from Roddenberry's pissing about.

Reg creating the doctor of voyager would have been brilliant, definitely a missed opportunity.

Another great video as usual excellent work. I really enjoyed this one. When talking about Gene Roddenberry nothing surprises me. Having read "These are the voyages". It is clearly laid out in that book how intrusive Gene was into the stories that writers were creating for him. Many of whom were the pinnacles of science fiction authors at that time. However I can't totally fault Gene for his rewrites, or what someone would consider interference in the stories that were presented to him. Most of the sci-fi writers of the era were used to writing novels. Where the ability to create special effects and work within the budgets that most TV shows had to work under at that time didn't come in to play. Those stories the sci-fi writers wrote, would not easily convert over to a TV format. Gene Roddenberry was definitely someone who knew how TV worked. What you could do and couldn't do. He also had a particular mindset of how he wanted his characters to be portrayed. It's amazing when you think about it, How much they were actually able to bring forth and release every week. Especially, considering the years when TOS first came out. I remember sitting in front of my TV as a teenager and just being in awe of what they were producing and putting on the TV. You honestly could not wait for the next episode. They honestly were in reality. Boldly going where no one had gone before. Gene had a vision and he didn't care if he stepped on a few egos or ticked off a few people to bring that vision to fruition. I hope you do more of these what could have been episodes videos I really enjoy them.

The book "The Unauthorized Trek: The Complete Next Generation" by James Van Hise has a section that delves into some of these lost stories, including "Blood and Fire" and another that would've completely changed Data's origin. I would highly recommend it if copies still exist. 🖖😎👍

'Big Bang Alien' sounds like an incredible idea, high concept and distinct to the Star Trek brand. I hope it gets dusted off and used at some point.

For years I saw tv spots and interviews on various Trek things with Gene Roddenberry in them and he seemed like a geeky but nice man. Well after RU-vid came on the scene with many great channels like this one. I've seen many behind the scenes videos and interviews with actors and writers and I'm beginning to see Gene was a bit of a pain in the ass lol. Still I have respect and gratitude for the world he created for us. All the same I wouldn't want to have worked for him!! Lol Great video Sir.

The other problems with TNG, and Shallow Hole 6, is that TNG had no story arc through out the whole show. Most where either single episode,or two part episodes. Same with SH6. Until after Gene passed away. Also, Gene was operating on the mind set, if you will, of TOS, in that the show could be cancelled even mid season. So, that was why there were no story arcs beyond 2 episodes. This hampered writers when other sci-fi shows were so much more sucdessful, and longer running. Such as Voyager, Stagnate SG-1, and Babylon 5.

Rodenberry sounded like a toxic as heck person to work with. I've always held him on a pedestal, but really I've heard from so many people that he was maybe next to the pedestal instead of on it

He was a lot like George Lucas, in that he didn't have any creative talent and got everyone else to make things for him, then he'd take all of the credit for those creations. The big difference is Roddenberry was a sexist tyrant, whilst Lucas is an emotionless zombie.

Blood and fire is probably the most well known shelved TNG episode. Sucks it didn't happen.

Although I get why the author was attached to it, it sounds like it would have been pretty bad, in keeping with most season one episodes.

It would have been fun to see a TNG Mirror episode. I.S.S. Enterprise D meets U.S.S. D.

It would be logical for there to be large passenger liners in the merchant marines serving the needs of billions of federation citizens wishing to go to another planet or station on business or tourism knowing economy of scale Any trip in the TOS period would take at least days with weeks or months not uncommon. There are no ships in star trek but here has to be something in beta canon or an unmade script

Actually, there are many transport ships seen and mentioned in Star Trek... DS9s Episode Emissary has one, TOS mentions the Astro Queen in The Conscious of the King, Worfs Mom and Son Travel to the Enterprise in one in TNG ect ect
