If you already have a handheld & a 12 VDC power supply, this is a great option. But if you can afford it, I'd also suggest considering getting a dedicated base radio. Weigh the options. Going this route requires investing in an external power supply & external antenna. If you went with a base radio you get that as an integrated radio & power supply combined. It's just one less thing to bother with. I have power supplies & external antennas already, so adding this amp to my collection of handhelds gives me additional capability of having a decent portable field base station whenever necessary without having to break down a base station for transport.

As in the specs... 2 watts in / 20 watts out. 6 watts in / 40 watts out. I only use it as a base amplifier. Most car lighter plugs supply less current than what the Amp could draw at higher power. If you want to use it mobile I'd suggest wiring it directly to the car battery. You'd likely blow a fuse otherwise. At least operate the Amp for the lower power output.

The Radio is indeed dual band, however the Amp is only for the 70 CM band. RF Amplifiers all have limitations as to the band spread they can operate in. Operating outside the tuning parameters of a linear amp results in high reverse SWR and can damage the power amp circuit.

That repeater is located well over 20 miles away. In the video I forgot to mention it was one I couldn't reach with just the handheld, even with the J-pole antenna. The power amp got it loud & clear.

As in the specs... 2 watts in / 20 watts out. 6 watts in / 40 watts out. A 10 Amp supply would be hard pressed to operate beyond 25 watts. Operating at high power, you'd risk blowing a fuse or worse unless you really limit your keydown time.(No long rag-chews) Otherwise, count on operating at low power with 20 watts out. It's why BTECH mobiles output 25 watts, when offered with a cigarette plug. The car lighter plug & accessory circuit isn't designed for higher current draw. The alternative would be to not use the cigarette lighter plug in the mobile and going directly to the battery instead.
