Best part is the pre-game captains meeting at midfield. Look at the size difference. It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
If this upset led to several B1G Network cable deals, then every school in the league (including Yellow Pants Up North) ought to be saying, "Thank You Appy State!" Cha-Ching.
I don't even live in Big Ten country and I subscribe to BTN. This game was a big reason why, and they've had a bunch of other good games plus other programming I like ("Tiebreaker", "Big Ten Elite").
As a person whose parents first met when they were Penn State students (meaning I literally wouldn’t exist without Penn State) and a lifelong Nittany Lions fan, this will never get old!
My wife went to App state, lots of friends also. I have a friend who's son plays there and he played in the Carolina tar heel game, LOL. I still get giddy every time I watch that field goal attempt blocked. Michigan and Carolina, LOL. Both teams could beat App state for the next one hundred years and it won't matter, they both got beat by App. 😂
Boone is a very small town, one main road through town. The next week Nebraska was visiting Wake Forest and 3 bus loads of Nebraska fans made their drivers detour off I-40 and go through Boone to see exactly what this App State team was all about. They couldn't believe how small the town was.
Dexter Jackson scores the 1st TD for App. State - Hunt tells him “You just scored on Michigan!!! We’re gonna live!” 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 LOVE IT!!! All I remember is losing my mind!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Biggest upset in college football history. For some odd reason, there were a lot of Ohio State fans calling the App State bookstore for Moutaineers merchandise.
Wow! That’s amazing how far it traveled. Me and my wife were at Kruger national Park for our anniversary and some of the locals I guess were watching it and then talking about it. I did not think they follow American sports in Africa. Amazing how far this game traveled.
The spread on this game was over 30. I made bets with various UM fans well over 1,500 on the spread. Many people may not realize this but U of M fans bet with their hearts and not their heads, easiest money I ever made.
There's only about one of these every 50 years, bless yourself if you are alive to see it. This probably being the greatest of them all. Think of all them Big Ten teams that go there year after year, for decades and decades (N'Western, Illinois,Purdue, etc) never win in here. We got Michigan in "The Big House" in 1998 (Syracuse 38 Michigan 28) and I rank that the 2nd greatest win in Cuse modern era, Nebraska win being number one, and even more meaningful, Tom Brady was the starting QB. So, Michigan fans, don't be upset cause I'll tell why. There are not many "Blue-bloods" in college football like basketball and I've always considered them one, even when down. Michigan is a historically iconic football team, that place, those absolutely awesome uniforms, the song, the feel (it's like playing Army in 1899, lol), so as a 54 year Cuse fan, your team is awesome (respect). But I loathe your basketball team with every last drop of Orange Blood in my body, lol
@@dentonyoung4314 Yeah, but we played conservative in the second half. Armanti, "Money", Edwards was best on the run, improvising, not standing in the pocket. Coach Moore went conservative early in the 2nd half and it almost cost us - even going for a field goal on first down when we had first and goal from the 4 (which resulted from Armanti getting back in rhythm out of the 2 minute offense - Money once again!) Oh, and future NFL receiver, Brian Quick, dropped a sure TD pass that hit him in the gut while Rauch, our kicker, also missed a very make-able field goal, so...
@@daydreamersinkproductions7819 the receiver dropped that TD pass on the drive App St made that 3rd quarter field goal to make their lead 31-20: plus the missed field goal was a 46 yarder from the side hash that hit off the upright (not easily made in college).
Michigan: We are seeking a National Championship. App State: Don't worry Ohio State we got this. Ohio State: Umm... Okay... Not sure who you are. After the game Ohio State: Was that for real??? App State: Your turn OSU: With pleasure. Penn State fan here but still despises Michigan.
@@Stewdill51 Appalachian state is in North Carolina so it’s more like Michigan : we want a national championship Ohio state : so do we Appalachian state : what can we do to solve this Appalachian state : I know hold my moonshine
Two things that have come to light in College Football were featured in this game; Players on both teams being suspended for no apparent reason at all, and Appalachian State's spread offense where the QB has to look to the sidelines for the audibles and protection calls. Both have become huge issues in CFB over the past decade.
Tommy B Who cares. Mich State never lost to a 1-AA team ( I assume) and at home to boot. Stop trying to deflect, UM choked and still does. Game last night was a “peach”. I still wear my APP STATE tee. Go Mountaineers! UM still blows.
@@Jack00100 not really if it's going to benefit them the rest of their lives. We have got to look at the big picture not what's on top. But I do understand your point of view I really do.
This was the first season I watched college football. I didn’t fully appreciate how big of an upset it was at the time, thinking that anything could happen at anytime especially during that season. After 17 years I have no idea how App State played this well against a top team like Michigan was at the time
Who is the only team in the Southeastern Conference to paid up $500,000 to play Appalachian State? Auburn Tigers 1999 after avoiding the Seminoles of Florida State for the second time in the 1990's.
Update from 2023: the 2022 Texas A&M Aggies paid App St $1.1 million for the week 2 matchup where App St won. So Auburn is no longer the only SEC team on that front
Michigan's biggest problem was that Lloyd Carr had effectively retired before this game started and was coasting through this last season. The team talked big about beating Ohio state and winning the Big Ten but they obviously didn't take the upcoming season seriously and it showed. This was an utter disgrace to the program and possibly the lowest point of Michigan football since I have been watching. GIven how shitty the last 10 years has been, that's saying a lot.
honestly the lowest point recently was 2014 when shane morris got a concussion and Brady hoke reinserted him in the game despite showing and obvious concussion.
To this day it still drives me crazy people can't pronounce APPALACHIAN correctly. Even one of the Big Ten guys said it wrong in the video. It's pronounced. App-uh-LATCH-un State. I went to school there and hearing the name constantly pronounced wrong irks alums and current students.
This game, ironically pave the way for the current conference expansion of the Big Ten, Nebraska,Maryland ,Rutgers, and now USC,UCLA,Oregon,Washington in 2024!
2007 in College Football is often called "The Year of the Upsets," as more upsets happened this year than any other year prior to it. I know that Fiesta bowl wasn't in the same season, but it WAS in 2007, so I consider it foreshadowing of the season to come.
I had some Toon, Anime, Video Game, Sitcom, Live-Action, Comic Book friends were born between 1989 and 1990 were actual 12th Grade Seniors in High School from Around the World including United States watching College Football
“I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith. As the kick is blocked by Corey lynch, and that will mean App St will win. I’d like to apologize for the people who I’ve offended and the people who sign my paychecks.”
Last Saturday was the *4* year anniversary of when "BTN Ten B1G Years: Appalachian State Upsets Michigan" was uploaded. 🤓 EDIT- 10:40 P.M.: *finishes video 10 minutes later* I had never heard of Appalachian State *or* the Big Ten Network until that game was played!
If this is compared to anything. It’s the 1980 us hockey game against the soviets. Obviously it’s not the same because of political reasons and the magnitude of the game but think about it. App state was the team of nobodies a bunch of players who just played the game (the USA team) while Michigan was the team that had big names, won a lot , the school is built around football (the soviets). I don’t know but it just kind of mirrors that game for me.
I hate ✖️ichigan as much as the next OSU fan but B1G needs to chill with this. It doesn't matter anymore and it's fucked up. They gotta stay unbiased and this makes them look like they straight up hate them.
Why should they? It was arguably the biggest upset in college football history. *ichigan became the first team in college football history to go from a top 5 ranking to unranked after 1 game.
@Matthew Whoopee Doo! C'Mon Man. No wonder why Michigan hasn't claimed at least a share of a national title since 1997 and an outright national crown since 1948.
Kyle Alexander Wilson Michigan hasn’t even played their first game of the season on September 1 2017 🤣 and App State wasn’t the better team they got a lucky blocked field goal that game was a fluke
@@MatthewHackett Michigan had national title aspirations heading into the 2007 season, you buffoon. Luck with will, skill, grit and guts, Michigan wuss. Fluke? Appalachian State went on to win their third straight FCS National Championship title later in the year. Michigan has been a fluke since 1948, their last outright claimed national title. That's terrible.
joesakic91 Nebraska should not be able to claim the 1997 title because Michigan and Nebraska had multiple common opponents and Michigan beat all of them by more points. 1997 Michigan>1997 Nebraska
@@MatthewHackett But Tom Osbourne's Nebraska Cornhuskers had a conference championship game and won that to go to 13-0 while Lloyd Carr's Michigan Wolverines didn't despite going 12-0 overall. You're just in denial seeing the sad state of Michigan football since their last outright NC title back in 1948.
