Really nice video! Awesome collection of tape echo units, and great descriptions & demos. I'd love to hear you play through them- maybe in the second video? I have a Maestro Echoplex EP3, serial # 36820, but love hearing the wild tonal variations of other vintage tape units as well. I also have a Burns double-6 electric 12-string, and was I surprised to see that pic of Bo Diddley holding one in that Watkins Powercat pic! Subscribed. :)

I saw that Hank Garland's guitar that looks identical to the one pictured with Grady Martin at 2:29 (except the lettering says Hank Garland) is being sold on Reverb for $115,000. Looks like Paul Bigsby might hav gave them out to some of the hot country session players at the time (I think it was listed as a 1949 guitar)

Bob, have you ever seen the surreal Italian movie Queen of Hearts? There is a scene in that movie involving a homemade tape delay set-up with many meters of reel to reel tape run all around the room and using the legs of upturned stools as capstan pulleys in order to create a very large time delay. ( The movie involves a blood feud feud over an arranged marriage and an elopement, as well as a scheme to cheat the racetrack and win a big bet. Not to be confused with several other movies that have the same title, and unfortunately I don't know the name of the movie in Italian).
@BobsToneReview
@BobsToneReview 2 года назад
Good 'un... sounds like a very interesting movie... unfortunately I've never seen it. It's difficult to track it because of the quite common title. Do you know in what period or years it was released?
@goodun2974
@goodun2974 2 года назад
@@BobsToneReview , I looked it up. Queen of Hearts is actually a British movie (English language) about an Italian family that has to escape from Italy to Britain because of the breaking off of an arranged marriage . It came out in 1989 and the director's name is Jon Amiel. It's a funny and somewhat surreal romantic comedy with a mildly dangerous edge. It is often compared to the movie Moonstruck with Cher and Nicholas Cage. The tape-delay scam near the end of the movie is classic.

@@BobsToneReview , if you like Italian-language movies that are truly surreal and absurdist, try "Copperman". I watched it on the plane when my wife and I were returning from a trip to Florence in 2019 and I laughed my butt off!

Wassup Big Bob? Is it true that blondes have more fun?! What do you think of the Echo Fix EF-X2 and EF-X3 tape echo machines ??? I believe that they are out of Australia.

Ciao James. All good here! I'm refreshing my video workstation and I hope to get back at work soon on a new episode! As for Echo Fix, they look nice, I asked them if they could send me a demo unit for review but I had no luck on that one
@jameslanclos568
@jameslanclos568 6 месяцев назад
Apparently they were a company that repaired the vintage tape delays like Echoplex and Roland Space Echo and they knew them inside and out, their pros and their cons and set out to make a better tape delay machine. A bit pricey though, but you get what you pay for most of the time.@@BobsToneReview

I have the T.Rex Replicator Deluxe. I got one as soon as I heard about them, but I had to wait to be notified by Sweetwater when they were back in stock. Just the other day, I read that David Gilmore has one on his pedal board. I live in New Orleans, Louisiana (not sure if you know about New Orleans), but anywho, I'm guessing that you are in Germany? Looking forward to seeing you in future videos. Thanks James@@BobsToneReview

Ciao@@jameslanclos568 ! I'm in the south of Italy. I played a few shows in the U.S., a couple in Chicago. Unfortunately I never made it to New Orleans... I would love to come someday! I also have a T-Rex Replicator Deluxe. I mostly use in studio, sometimes live. I like it; it gives a nice tridimensional feel to the sound, especially when used in a stereo setup. It also is relatively reliabe.
