BUCKET VS SNOW PUSHER

In this video, I show how much faster the snow pusher is compared to the bucket. There is a lot of time waisted with the bucket because I have to lift the loader and dump the snow every time I get to the snowbank.

what's up ? the bucket is used to lift and dump the snow over the top of the pile to get the snow out of the way, all you did is dump it back in the way, everyone that knows how to use a bucket ( other then you) knows to pull forward then dump the snow over the top of the pile, if all you have is a pusher blade you need to push the snow a lot farther back so that you will have the room if you get a lot more snow later in the winter, it's common practice in snow country, just saying !

michael I was thinking the same thing dump it over the pile

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing. Why get a bucket full of snow, pick it up, to only dump it right back where it was to start with? If you'll start rolling the bucket forward as you get to the base of the snowbank while still pushing forward, you'll push the snow over the top and over the back of the snowbank. You can do the same thing with the snow pusher when snow starts pilling up.

So Michael you don't think anyone could pull on the lift valve with the pusher attached and push the snow higher and keep it pushed back at the same time? there only a very few occasions that a bucket makes more sense that a plow and those aren't shown here. However if you need to use a bucket in some places and you own a tractor like that you already (I suspect) have a bucket kicking around somewhere!

@@dwightlyon3643 I live in one of the top snow areas in the country. I have both a bucket and pusher and use them both. If you can only have one you have to have the bucket. That will do the bulk of the work in big snow. Over 40 years of plowing for me so while I may not be the foremost expert don't steer people wrong when it comes to this not everyone has a ton of cash so many people can only have one attachment.

As Scott Gould mentioned the bucket work in this case was very much exaggerated and not very real life. If you lift the bucket it has no need to go so far up like in the video, and you must move forward at the same time to dump load on top or beyond the pile that is already there. Additionally in this video the bucket was a normal dirt bucket, not a snow bucket. The snow bucket would be much more useful and have 2-3 times the yardage of the dirt bucket. BTW it is quite dangerous to lift bucket that high and not tilt forward to keep bucket level, loads have a habit of falling on your pumpkin if the bucket is not level while raising. A better comparison would be a snow bucket vs a snow pusher and no needless raising heights/stopping. Although I have orange machines, I could use the push blade to push green monsters, hey maybe a snow pusher is the better choice. ;-)

Yes, very confusing at the end, to pick up a bucket full of snow and dump it at the same spot. NO BODY WITH A LOADER WOULD DO THAT! Maybe he was being Funny?🤔

Not a fair comparison. He clearly don’t know how to use a loader. Lots of dead time sitting and waiting for the bucket to move rather than moving while dumping. And lowering boom and such while backing up. Lots of wasted time

@scottgould294 7 лет назад
Not really an accurate comparison. You just pushed with the pusher and than backed up for the next pass. With the bucket, at the end of each pass, you stopped, lifted the bucket and dumped it. Than when you backed up, you waited to put the bucket down instead of while lowering the buck in transit. If the bucket was used just like the pusher, it would be more accurate.
@frenchriversprings
@frenchriversprings 7 лет назад
Scott Gould that is the problem with the bucket. You have to lift and dump. With the snow pusher, there is no bottom. As I was backing up, I was curling up the bucket back to level. I cannot curl the bucket up and lower the loader at the same time. Unless I would have the self levelling loader. Thanks for the comment!

Scott Gould I have to agree with you. I use my bucket. Not only can I plow faster than the guy in the video with my 2016 JD 1025r with bucket vs. bucket, but as you get further into winter... Just as snow plow trucks with 4wd experience. The pushed piles will melt, freeze, freezing rain makes it extremely hard to keep pushing snow further when the pushed snow becomes like that!! It’s a fact! With a bucket. Not only can I get down to my driveway without ruining it with my bucket, but I can start piling it way out first, then move in little by little. I learned how to operate a bobcat when I was five. My dad had one and taught me a lot. Even with you speeding up the bucket portion of the video... There wasn’t that big of time difference. Plus. Some are faster than others. Anyone can push snow faster. The challenge is timing and challenging yourself to become a more efficient and faster with your bucket. Then you’d be the Jeti Master! Merry Christmas.

I wonder if pushing with the bucket - with the bucket tilted completely forward - might be a simpler operation? With that bucket's shape I would think it would act like a 'rollover plow'. Is the machine capable of it?

@andreybondarenko3042 6 лет назад
It is yes and no. Most of the work I do with my tractor involves constant in-and-out, and opening-closing cab door all the time would be really annoying. Also, tractor gets much bulkier with cab, especially if it is a compact tractor (I have Kubota B2650) and you find yourself unable to do some jobs with it. Visibility is another issue with any cab. And in the summer open air is so much better then any cab with AC, not even mention one without.

Looks like he's comparing an eight foot snow pusher to a six or seven foot bucket. There's no argument that a snow pusher will move more snow faster. The real decision is if it's worth the money for a single purpose attachment. I've been moving snow for about 25 years now and love my pushers but I got pretty efficient with a bucket before I spent the money. I tell my guys to always pile the snow on the downwind side of whatever they're clearing if possible. It's hard to tell in this video what his setup is but it looks like he could've put the snow all to one side or the other depending on prevailing winds and eliminated the need to turn around and push the other direction. I understand in some places it's simply impossible to do that but I can say from experience that you can pile snow just as high or higher with a pusher. Like others have said, you always need to be thinking of the next snow when you're clearing. Not sure this video is a real fair comparison as I would never be backing up for my next push with the bucket fully raised. I also would never ram into a snow bank with any equipment, bucket or pusher. If the ground is frozen, you can start curling the bucket downward to unload it just as your reaching the snow bank, then slowly raise and pull inward so you dump the bucket and push the snow back all in one motion. Then lower the bucket back down while you're backing up for the next cycle. Cycle time is what it's all about but the snow pusher will always win if all other factors are equal. If you have a snow removal business or a lot of area to clear every winter, these things are a good investment. They don't tilt left and right so if you're area is very uneven like a crowned up driveway or something, you'll be making two or three passes regardless. You cannot angle them like a snow blade to roll snow to the side. These are great for large spaces like a parking lot. They'll hold a lot of snow before it starts spilling out around the edges. Sooner or later, you'll push wet snow and it will pack up in there and it won't unload, just like a bucket, but it's usually still unloaded enough to keep going without wasting lots of time shaking it where a bucket sometimes has to be chiseled out with a shovel. If you get into a deep, wet, heavy snow you're going to need some kind of counter weight on the back of a tractor or all you're going to do is sit and spin your tires. Front wheel assist tractors are nice in this circumstance. Deep drifts and things take a little creative thinking to remove since you can't scoop with a pusher like you can with a bucket. Back dragging is a challenge as well. These things have their place. It's very likely you're loader came with a bucket so you'll still have it if you decide it's the best tool for the job. I make sure mine are all quick attach so I can cycle between both if needed.
