For my curvy long driveway, a plow is without a doubt the best choice. Down a back, it's done. Boxes are good for parking lots and where several passes are needed, that's it.

Greeting from Canada. Love all your videos. I own a 2018 Kubota BX2380 and have the skid steer quick detach on my loader. I have a 48” bucket and a Land Pride SPL0560 60” snow pusher / box (I have the top option closing the top of my box for back dragging). I also have the Land Pride Quick Hitch (QH 05) and a Kubota K51-20-06 rear mounted snow blower with hydraulic controlled snow chute and traverse. I live on the Prairies and man do we get snow. My tractor’s main purpose is snow clearing / cleaning! Lol. Anyhow, the snow pusher and back drag option is definitely the way to go if you can only have one of the implements….plow / blade or snow pusher. The snow pusher / box wins hands down. I have plenty experience using my snow pusher / box over that last 5 years and experience using a plow for 8 years prior to getting the snow pusher / box. Again, the snow pusher / snow box wins hands down over a plow / blade.

Thanks, I learned a lot about snow removal from this video. All that talk about snow and what best to buy, plow v pusher, makes me glad I live in central North Carolina. I just wait a couple of days and its melted away. I can't imagine having it piling up and my driveway getting more narrow after each snow. Never thought about.

I start out the season with the pusher on the 1025R. Love the backdrag right up to the garage doors. But as the big stuff starts rolling in, need to cut over to the 47" blower. The 1025R is just a tad light when you get to the eavier wet snow. Then switch back to the pusher to finish out the season. All works well. Thanks for the video! Hope you are having a great Christmas!

I have a 7 foot Fisher plow and 64 inch rear mount snow blower for me my machine. Got the plow for “free” traded some labour to a guy who had it with a JD quick attach mount fabricated for it. Also most truck plows use a “3 point connection” two to the truck and one with the chains. So the mount he had made is basically a 3 point to JD loader mount and uses a top link instead of chain.

In Austria and places like that where they get 2 ft of snow today and 3 days later they get 3 more ft surprisingly use big 4 and 5ft tall frame mounted snow blades with chains and big ballast boxes on the back. After they bust the roads open they comes back with loader buckets and touch up the next day. You cant find a either of these attachments there. Its crazy how different countries handle snow different.

I just got a hla 3000 9 ft with floating sub frame mounted on my mf 4707. Live the set up. I live in an area were there is lots of snow and ice, I got there notched scraper edge option because I only have a 1 km long gravel driveway. The notching option in my opinion is the best option it breaks up any ruts and scrapes the ice and leaves a little layer of snow making it not slippery. I used to use a back hoe and with the straight blade it always glossed. The snow making it realy slippery.

Nice video talking about the differences of application between the 2. For sidewalks or skinny driveways I prefer a plow, for wide open areas a pushbox is much better and faster as well.. for deep deep deep snow a snow blower is the only way to go. I just built myself a pushbox for this season and boy do I love it. Great video 👍🏻

I run a plow and a pusher and a snow bucket on a large tractor with rear blower and over all the plow and pusher work great together on large lots the plow rows it up and pusher cleans it up . But on a daily basis i like the pusher it floats much nicer and your not getting big shocks to machine if you trip the blade ... trade offs for everything lol

All modern loaders mount and dismount easily. Any metal fabricator can make a bracket to attach a western plow in a few minutes directly to the tractor. You want the plow close to the front wheels not sticking out 6 feet in front.

What drives the choice is cost, what you're plowing (driveway, parking lot, road), kind of snow, etc. I get 4-6" of wet snow...... when it snows. And your storage space (the JD frame mount blade is easy to store, fairly light, etc.). I started with a 48" JD snow blower. The snow would freeze up in the blower requiring me to cary a stick to stop & clean it out. Worse, I'd get snow/ice blasted in windy conditions. The snow blower would slow significantly at 6". I'd say never use a snow blower on gravel. I moved to the JD frame mount blade which I widened to 83" and plowed 2 miles of road. A secondary road is roughly 20 feet wide. Blade width drives the number of passes you have to make.....which drives how much time you're sitting in the cold. The JD frame mount hydraulics are easy. Artillian makes a mount to move it onto an FEL. I then moved to a manual 72" FEL mounted blade (widened with wings to 83") which worked well as long as there are no parked cars (unless you don't care about pushing snow against the cars). I since converted it to hydraulic with a 3rd valve kit. There are 2 ways to do hydraulic (2 longer hoses or a 3rd valve kit). This is a heavy blade, but still within the FEL lift limits. Given my conditions, I've never had any issues with 1025R front wheel lift, steering, etc. I did move to the Carlisle tires (mainly because I'm on hills a lot). I haven't talked about rear mounted blades because I've never used one. They can be very affordable. All choices are driven by your situation and conditions. Talk to other folks in your area.

Id like a pusher also but my bet for those with a long gravel driveway like me (3/4 of a mile) trying to spend less and get more versatility the best thing you can get for a compact tractor is a loader mounted power angle snow plow and a large box blade. The combo is basically as good as a pusher cuz you can capture and move snow and do long windrow pushes. You can also use the box blade for maintaining the driveway in the summer.

Great informative video, you present well. I like the pusher but unsure if I need/want one that articulates. I’ve got ~ 100k sq’ of nice asphalt that was freshly resealed this summer, so I don’t want to mark it up or damage it. Would like to discuss further with you possibly Monday. I’m running a Bobcat A300 but don’t want or need to spend a ton of dough as this isn’t a revenue stream for me, however I want to be efficient, get the job done and get on to other priorities for the day.

Plow over push IF tractor is setup to maximize the plow. What do I mean... 1) Boom cylinder stops. Keep weight of loader and plow on tractor...better traction on front axle. 2) Front snow tires or chains is possible. Keeps tractor tracking straight. 3) plow needs some oscillation. (And pusher) flexibility is needed to contour ground. Tractor frames are to ridged. 4) plows scrap clean better than a pusher. Pushers are working across 2 planes, longitudinal and transverse. 5) hard to turn with a pusher. 6) let’s just call pushers the Walmart plow. Cause in my opinion that is the only place they excel...cleaning parking lots. That’s it!...I’m gonna have to build a plow and pusher to revolutionize the industry. I thought I was done for awhile after my wood splitter but I guess not...😆

I am in the pusher camp. I had a blade on my side by side, and loved that, but loader blades don't act, or "ride" the same IMHO, especially on terrain with changing slopes. My pusher is much better at floating over the terrain. Having the long side skids really help. That does look like one hell of a solid built blade tho.

I guess I`m lucky in that we do not get too many large snows. I can remember getting 2 foot of snow in February 2012 ! And I believe it was January 2018 we got a nearly 2 foot storm! Other than that snows are usually 5-6 inches and less. So the bucket on my loader works just fine for me! But if I did need something I probably would go with the pusher. No dog in this fight at this time but the pusher sounds like it would be ideal for me. I have a 75-80 foot driveway that ends in the garage at the bottom of an incline. I need to pull the snow away from the garage and put it on the side of the driveway. A plow just doesn't get the downforce necessary, talking plows on trucks, to pull the snow away from the garage. Maybe someday I'll hit the lottery and be able to get a tractor. :-)

Good questions. I have a crowned 1000' gravel driveway and good sized gravel parking area. I use a 1025R with a frontier AF10F FEL mtd blade with hydraulic angle. The advantage of this setup is you have an infinite ability to raise and lower the blade left and right using the dump/curl function when the blade is angled, to match the crown in the road. Idea being you still want a crown in the road after a season of plowing. Using the blade without angling of course makes it level with the tractor for plowing level areas. It takes some getting use to with so many adjustments. Hope this addresses your concerns.

I have a plow, on a B2601 and it does get a little squirrelly steering it sometimes, but the snow is always rolling off to the side. When the pusher gets full then what? Personally I use a back blade with a bucket. If the snow is shallow say up to about 4 or 5 inches I angle the back blade and then just drive back and forth. The ballasted and chained rears resist the side pressure much better than a front plow. If it gets too deep I spin the blade backwards with no angle and I do a Chevron pattern backing up and pushing the snow off the side of the driveway. With the shoes on my blade I just plow right into the yard. I back drag with my bucket near buildings and use the bucket to relocate any snow that will plug me up if it gets deep like around my turnoff or near my gates. Snow push are good too but every time I look at one I remember that I use my back blade a ton in summer and wouldn't touch a snow push.

My driveway is gravel and it's 3/10 of a mile long. Plow or pusher? I'm not sure. I've only used a plow before (not on my driveway). We are moving into our new house soon, so this will be the first winter living there. Still trying to decide what tractor to get too.

I was just wondering, would the new MSL 120R loader arms restrict the back drag on the snow pusher at all, or restrict other functions using a snow pusher. Thanks in advance.

Good question. At the 7:50 mark in this video there is a very small clip showing a MSL loader backdragging. Whether that's the same setup for all the MSL loaders or not, I don't know. Perhaps someone watching with a 120r MSL loader can verify. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dp4ercv0Cq0.html

What about this third option? A rear blade with loader bucket in the front? Rear blade "plows" and the bucket collects the wind rows to relocate and stack where needed so no need to swap between plow or pusher between different job sites? Also one rear blade cost vs both plow and pusher? Thoughts?? Maybe answer via video? Like pros and con of rear blade vs plow?
@cwolf8841
@cwolf8841 3 года назад
Rear blades can run roughly $400 to $1,000+ depending on size and features (gauge wheels, offset, angling, hydraulics, etc.). The obvious issue is you're driving over the snow before you plow. Watching the videos, there might be 'crabbing' with a rear blade depending IF offset, and might vary by speed, snow depth, etc.. TTWT tested the small Heavy Hitch rear blade. Generally, if I had my druthers, I'd like most things upfront because you can see what you're doing. And I'd like gauge wheels on my plow (why grind steel or plastic into the road). Sadly nobody seems to make one like that. All depends on what you're plowing, kind of snow, etc.
@stevek4449
@stevek4449 3 года назад
True, although with my gravel driveway and a high crown, i dont mind if it digs in a bit. Although for paved surfaces i have seen a pvc pipe fitted over the cuttung edge to prevent tearing of the pavement or gravel by the rear blade. But i can also get close to garage doors and pull it away like a snow pusher can. In any setup there is always a plus or minus. It seems though that a rear blade and bucket can offer a lot of flexibility as a pair. Also don't need as much speed with rear blade like plows seem to need.

@@joanettemurch9040 Decisions depend on the task. Your budget. And the kind of snow you get. I plow wet snow on say 1-2 miles of road. For me, an angling front blade works best.

@cwolf8841 3 года назад
@@stevek4449 Depending on your rear blade, you can add gauge wheels. Or simply set your rear at a slightly higher level. The higher end rear blades can be angled up & down. I don't want to take anything away from your video but I have a question for you. Why would I buy a snow pusher when I have a bucket? I have a 72 inch bucket and I guess your 4066 has a 72 inch bucket. Why get a 72" snow pusher. I could see getting a 7 or 8' snow pusher because it would be faster if you need it. I guess my main question is why buy a pusher if you already have a bucket that is multi use. Also what about a rear blade also multi use
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 3 года назад
Not the same for many reasons. Already covered in a video. Buckets aren't made to remove anything. They are designed to dig and hold. Neither of which you want to do when moving snow. Bad for your bucket edge, extremely inefficient, and easily cause damage to your plowing surface. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uRx3JqnZ92Q.html

I understand that with a plow you can angle it and the spill over go’s off to the side you angle it. If you are using a snow pusher with 8”” of snow will it spill of to each side if you are going hundreds of feet? How will that work on your second pass
@GoodWorksTractors

Like I explain in the video, plows spill off every single pass. Clean up passes are much faster with a pusher.

Just jumping in here, you have a little larger tractor than I do with my kubota L2501 (kinda like a 3025e) and I run a huge 3ft high x 72" wide snow pusher with ease. I have a few videos of it in you're wondering. There's no weight too lift as it's not a bucket, so it's always empty. I bought a used one and paid $450 for it. There's no moving parts, just the blade and skids. The taller, and the longer (forward away from the blade) the side plates are, the more volume you can move without fall off. It also depends on how much room you have to operate in. I don't think you'd hehe an issue with a 84" either. I use mine with a 68" rear blower, or rear blade or box blade depending on snow amount.

@@ironheadbiker ok. Thank you. Usually in the winter I have my backhoe on the back so I have plenty of rear weight. Right now I’m using a 6’ loader blade which works well. I have a 400' paved driveway that opens to a large area near the house. This video has convinced me to buy a snow pusher over a plow. My concern is the driveway is 21 years old so it's no longer a flat surface. To me, an ssqa hydraulic angle broom would be better for the uneven surface. Thoughts?

10 ft pusher is too big for home owner / farm on 5e Deere. It handles it fine but weight of pusher is right at limit even with correct counter balance. I would trade my 10 for an 8.
