The first subway line was opened in Budapest in 1896 - today's M1, which captivates with historic train stations and idiosyncratic vehicles. In the course of time, more lines built according to the Soviet model were added - up to the latest line M4, which is operated fully automatically.
The HÉV suburban rail system impresses with iconic green trains from GDR production and the cogwheel train (line 60 of the tram network) leads up to the Buda Mountains and to the children's railway.
