I hope that some of the people here for SRV have had their eyes opened the mastery of Buddy who's always flown a little under the radar. Both insanely talented.
Watch Buddy smile when Stevie starts playing. I've seen Buddy several times myself. Stevie always paid tribute to Buddy, recording Buddy's songs (Mary Had A Little Lamb, Let Me Love You) announcing to audiences during shows that he liked Buddy asking the audience if they did to before launching into Leave My Little Girl Alone. Buddy didn't stay lost in obscurity once Stevie kicked the door open. And that's why Stevie was a musicians musician, he always reflected on his influences.
Wow, when someone like Buddy Guy introduces you by calling you his best friend AND handing you YOUR guitar before you start playing together, you know you've made it!!
Mad respect for Buddy Guy he's a legend in his own right but what always amazes me is how many legends he shared the stage with.. The important thing is Buddy shares that stage he brings out the best from others and never tries to upstage instead he shares his beautiful energy and it's obvious how much he enjoys collaborating
You have to be KIDDING Me. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN. IS IN A CLASS BY HIM SELF. I have meet Buddy Guy, He Is the MOST CLASSLESS AND IGNORANT PERSON I HAVE EVER MET.
It’s so weird seeing videos of him looking the same and staying the same age and all the other guitarist got old and have more and more videos of them through the years
I was blessed to have seen Stevie Ray twice. First time was in Phoenix at the celebrity theater in 87. Greg Allman opened for SRV and Double Trouble. I had a 5th row aisle seat and when the stage rotated to my aisle I ran down to the stage and got right up to Stevie and screamed like a little girl at an Elvis concert. Stevie just grinned at me and then a giant of a man stepped between us and said no dancing in the aisle so I sat down. The second time I saw Stevie was in Tucson in 89 the day after my birthday, I didn't have as good of a seat but it was still an awesome concert and great birthday gift. The following year the day before my birthday I heard the horrible news that Stevie was gone. Died in my home state of Wisconsin and at a place where I probably skied down the hill. I went skiing many times at Alpine valley and saw a few concerts there also. I still mourn us losing him and the others who were on that helicopter. But I will never forget that night I first saw him and he gave me a big smile. RIP Stevie, thanks for the memories and your God given talent.
Buddies playing with Hendrix goes deeper than playing together. Buddy Guy is the man that showed Jimi Hendrix and Billy Gibbons how to bend a guitar string. There's a video where Hendrix is at a club while Buddy is playing with a tape recorder on the table.
@@MusicHeartofMine2012 I believe Jimi was taping Buddy Guy playin, and by the middle of sôñg, was Up picken with Buddy, that would have been the Ultimate of jam sessions, I would have died, jus sàyin ¡😎¡
Yes. He always showed an incredible amount of respect to the blues men that came before him and Buddy Guy is so incredibly supportive and encouraging of the next generations (as were all of the legends).
Yes, can say the same for Buddy, always a class act, a few notes and you can tell master and student. Guess that's why Buddy was Stevie's biggest influence.
I wish I could give this video more likes. I saw Stevie Ray several times in the 80's and have alway been a huge fan of Buddy. Both of them together is magical.
Best ever, this is why I have a guitar in my hand at 5am right now. Color didn't matter we need this back. Put a guitar in your kids hands not a cell phone. So much talent out there just waiting to be found. Blues come from your heart and soul. You feel it!!! More than just hear it!
I was there that night. It was Buddy’s birthday and he showed up for a B-day jam. Bernie Taupin was standing next to the stage. It was spiritual. I’ve never seen a hand move so fast. I never will again.
🎸This is something special SRV & bud on stage together, two geniuses at the blues at a different level, srv was long before his time that graced this planet love the 2 guitar slingers brilliant and so different in there own right. When these guys hit turbocharge it’s something special to the next level 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I was fortunate to have met Buddy a few times. I bounced at a small bar called Carries Place in Murohysboro Illinois when he was still on the circuit even the small blues clubs. Played like he was playing for millions kicked ass Everytime. Got to have beers with him, I am a fortunate man!!

Buddy if you read theses comments hope you remember Carries Place. Changed my life forever. I was White kid from the South your music changed my life. 1992 I was a screwed up veteran, your music kept the gun out of my mouth and I picked up a guitar instead. Eternal thanks, I brag to alot of people about meeting you.
That opening thing SRV does right after Buddy lent him his guitar is bloody awesome. Filth, but awesome. (And it's so cool they share guitars like that)
I met Buddy Guy back late 80s, maybe 1990 lol. He dedicated a song to me and came off the stage and dance a bit with me. So cool. Some do not believe me. But I remember. And he was just such a really cool guy. You just felt instantly comfortable talking to him. It was one of my highlights of my life! 😊 It was in this little bar in Chicago.
You can't get any better than two experts doing it live in America. This music is played all over the world. This is what we need today all getting along and enjoying the fruits of our labor.
Can't leave out SRV & his mentor, Albert King in Session, just as masterful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4-apz26BfHY.html To hear SRV play is to hear Albert King play. That's how big his influence was.
They were so young and beautiful. I like how Buddy says Stevie is his best friend! I'm a recovering alcoholic and I'm just happy that Stevie died sober. He had one year sober when he died. I cried my ass off!!!!! You can go on RU-vid to AA speaker meetings in Stevie Ray Vaughan tells his story of his addiction (s)
Love them both ...and they have such mad respect and love for each other it's so clear. Stevie's genuine grins, like a kid in a candy store, at being able to play with one of his idols...are infectious.
One thing I can say in my lifetime that I have worked for a blues legend Buddy Guy as his one of his personal security and he taught me so much and I love him to death peace and love buddy
Stevie Ray Vaughan came out the womb with guitar in hand. Buddy Guy handed it to him. The younger generation need to know about all these legends. Just pure talent. Rip SRV.
LOVE at the beginning when Stevie puts the guitar on and the band does the turn around, he can't not play over it. The clouds open up and the blues rains down!
I like it that SRV comes out and immediately plays mostly in the style of Buddy Guy. As you fans of his know, a lot of what he played was derived from Albert King and Hendrix, but he could damn well play anything. I once heard him on NPR radio with an acoustic guitar (no amp) and played just beautifully. That's when I know I needed to see him live. Meanwhile Buddy is still playing and he is now 82 years old. No way I would have bet he would make it this far. I once saw him passed out behind the stage in a park and was did not make it up onto the stage while his brother (Phil) led the band for at least 20 minutes. And fantastically, 50 years later, he is still ripping. Long Live Buddy Guy and RIP Stevie Ray.
You missed that by a mile. When he first game out he was doing Albert King licks. But Stevie could do anybody.I saw Stevie in the Cobras, and he was the rythym guitar player.Denny Freeman played lead.Ive known all those guys almost 35 years. Also way back then, Jimmie played guitar in The Chessmen and Stevie played bass.Doyle Brahmhall was the drummer in that band. Aint It Fun Being From Dallas Texas!
@@knifelyfe6565 Well, we will agree to disagree. Albert King never played like that. I saw him live -- did you? SRV does a few notes like Albert at the very beginning but rips far too many notes to be much like Albert -- or BB of course -- but a little more like Freddie King. I saw them all live. SRV's style here is way more frenetic, like Buddy's. BTW, I first saw Buddy in January of 1970 and have seen him many times since. I only saw SRV once in about 1987. Wish I saw him many more times.
@@billiam3367 Yes sir, I've seen Albert many times.Last time I saw Albert was at the Helena Blues Festival. We were parked next to his bus backstage. We sat at his pic-nic table the whole weekend with him.I do agree Stevie could do Buddy perfect and was obviously a huge influence. You could tell by the covers he did.Checkout Buddy's kid.Hes a great player too.As far as Freddie.I saw Freddie in the 70s in at Mother Blues among other places in Big D.I have Freddie's Fender Super Amp case he took to England to cut the "Burglar" record.I cant count the times I've seen Stevie and Jimmie. As great as Stevie was, Texas is full of guitar players as good or better.Stevie learned a lot from Denny Freeman.Theres all the Austin guys too.Bugs Henderson(rip Big D)Derek Obrien, Denny, Anson Funderburgh(Plano Tx), Alan Haynes(Houston), Smokin Joe Kubek(Dallas rip) and so many more Stevie loved. As far as either one of the Vaughan Brothers, you aren't even scratching the surface.
If you know your Blues, it's very easy to identify every LICK SRV plays. Almost every one is a DIRECT COPY if someone else's LICK. Great player No IMAGINATION
I love the sheer joy in their faces as these two play off each other. I haven't been there in years, but Buddy Guy's Legends used to have a giant photo of these two on stage. Each man was staring at the other's hands. You could read it in both of their eyes, "How is he doing that?" Such a great photo. I know SRV looked up to Buddy Guy, and I think Buddy Guy loved playing with someone that could keep up with him.
I was there. It was Buddys birthday and the two of them made guitar love for 1 1/2 hours. I have never and will never see anything like it again. Also forgot shake hands with Bernie Taupin who is standing to the right of Stevie.
Did you see buddy play it before he handed it to Stevie? Before I saw the video, I thought Stevie played that small lick but the mystery is solved now cause we got the vid. It is pure heaven to hear Stevie’s opening solo.
