That is the day the music died. I'm 73 now and I listened to all of these musicians in my youth. They inspired me to be the best musician I could be. But, I never took advantage of my talents. To the youth I want to say, go for all of it. Never let anything or anyone get in front of your dreams.
This is the best performance of Buddy Holly’s music, EVER!! I was 14 when Buddy died and most rock ‘n’ roll radio stations were playing his music wall-to-wall for, at least, a couple of days. May he continue to RIP.
Fantastic film I was born 57 so grew up listening to buddy's music and to this day still sends goose bumps . and sends a tear down my cheek brilliant artist we lost to soon .
I'm sure he sounds a lot like Buddy Holly, because it is Buddy Holly at The Surf Ballroom CleadrLake, IA. Been there many times at the Surf and driving through.
My absolute favourite play! I first saw it when I was 15 (1988) at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto and I've seen it every time it plays in the Toronto area ever since, at least 30 times! The first time I saw it there were security guards in the balcony telling us we couldn't dance because we'd shake the building off its foundation. Buddy played for many months and when it closed the theatre had to be closed for repairs! Another time I saw it the applause was so wild at the end Buddy came out to do 5 encores! At the last one he said "You guys are amazing! This is going to be my last one! I'm supposed to be dead!" LOL! What an awesome play!
i also was born in1957 and grew up listening to buddy and all the others and still do better than what we have today. think them lads hit it off fantastic well done like to see the full film.
I was born in 58 and I still listen to Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. It's still so hard to believe when this concert was over it all ended. It was such a tragedy.
And to think poor richie died on the toss of a coin , how tragic , they were sooo young , buddy was so talented to think he wrote those timeless R n R songs before the age of twenty three
Great Buddy Holly Tribute! I've been performing an Ultimate Tribute Extravaganza show for 25 years....glad to see others doing it and bringing back the REAL music to the people!
Wow I have never seen this. My Uncle was living with us. And him & his buddies were big fans. He went into the army same time Elvis did. I have only seen the Buddy Holly movie and the LA Bamba movie. Thank you for posting the real performances. Nobody could really capture how fantastic Buddy Holly was. Although they did a great job.And Ritchie Valence was great but Lou Diamond played him with a different personality. More subtle. I think the Big Bopper was a disc Jockey from Louisiana. Such a tragic loss. Gone too soon . Their music will live on. 💜💜💜
I was born3/58. I had 2 older sisters. I was told whenever Buddy Holly or the Everly Brothers came on I giggled and laughed. I still love listening to them I was lucky enough to meet Phil in 1988. I was also lucky to see the Everly warming up in 1968 and and the reunion conconcert in Cincinnati in 84. And in Cleveland in 85. May they all be at peace in heaven. They all left us with so much to remember them by.
I was born in 61... never listened to him until 1998.... he was...still is phenomenal ... I feel cheated yet fulfilled to find his GENIUS... HE LIVES FOREVER....SO BE IT!
The day the music died.1959 Iowa cornfield,, we lost some wonderful musicians in that plane crash. I wonder if buddy knew they would still be playing his music 63 yrs later!. I was ten yrs old then and it still makes me cry.thank you so much for the beautiful memories of a bygone era. I will listen to buddy Holly til the day I die.
Buddy - a true legend . I hate the way That was NOT Valenzuela…. Valens is portrayed poorly - he wasn’t crotch barring, back side wriggle performer . He played lead guitar He played the guitar - and performed like Buddy . Buddy wax his mentor
Plus, if any performer ever acted like that on stage back in those days, their career would have been over immediately. Ritchie was only 17 yrs old, husky with a thick head of hair, and did not have dark skin.
@@mikeyloreneI agree I wouldn’t even mind if Ritchie was portrayed as someone not looking all that much like him but they really gave him a bad look, they really made him seem like Elvis
I grew up with Rock n Roll loved Buddy Holly and the Crickets, the Big Bopper Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and plenty more. It was a new sound our Radio station in Chicago I believe it was WJJD, played all the latest hits. We listened on the radio and if we could we went to the record shopy and bought a "45" it had a hole om the middle, and we had a yellow plastic disk that fit in the hole so we could play it on our record machine. We lived that music, my sister and I practiced out jitterbug steps in the kitchen with the radio on while doing our supper dishes. Those were the best days of music for us.
@@yahsmouse Pretty sure his peggy sue got married is by a band that was part of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band -- I have their CD/ But it isn't commercial b/c of CR issues. It is amazing though if you can get a copy.
Thank you Mom for turning us on to such great music it may be 2023, but I will always listen to this. Thank you Mom and Aunt Jane and Grandma and Grandpa. For everything you did for me I guess you guys knew I had rhythm and beat since I was eighteen months old. I'll never forget Buddy Holly Ritchie Valens or the Big Bopper and then Winter Wonderland Concert
I'm going to be 73 this fall and I concur! Elvis was virtually unattainable if you aspired to be a musician and singer. But Buddy had an everyman quality about him. He could be your neighbor, or friend that lived down the street! Additionally, just look at what Buddy produced in just a year and a half in the public eye! His legacy is huge, as is/was his influence on future artists...and it continues on to this day!
A lot of you younger fans may not know much about Buddy Holly other than the 'Buddy Holly Story' but he was amazing. Back in the early 70's Don Mclean had a hit record called "The Day The Music Died" which was about the day that Buddy Holly, Richie Valens ( movie "La Bamba")and the "BIG Bopper" were killed in a plane crash. I thought I remembered all of his songs but I hadn't heard this one since the 60's.
thanks for to make it possibel to see and listen to the songs I grew up with in my ears. I used to scribe the titels on my schoolbox to never forget, Buddy Holly and Richy Valens. So sorry what hat happended to them.
@@rjay1340 Depends on when you saw the show. I saw it in the 90s (perhaps 1996), when Billy Geraghty played Buddy, though at some performances he was substituted by Joe Warren Davis. (Info from the show's programme.)
The actor that plays Ritchie is just no. His performance is a major 'WTF?!' The 17 year old Ritchie was described by Dion and other musicians who toured with Valens as shy, innocent and very sweet. No such footage or contemporary descriptions of Ritchie exist of him performing on stage in an almost Elvis-esque, sexualized manner, with just a microphone in hand! IMO, the emcee resembles the Big Bopper more than the actor who plays him. Angus McGregor, on the other hand, is terrific as Buddy. I do understand that this is a show, not a documentary, with added flourishes, and choreography that did not exist in the original show. Likely, someone in charge thought that the additional orchestral musicians, choreography, and back up singers make it a bit more entertaining for a 21st century audience.
Noooo, dont think so. Buddy had already lost his edge and taken a turn for the serious by then. Think Bobby Darren or Ricky Nelson. Wouldnt have made it past the Beach Boys or the British invasion.
@@goshlikkrudbahr5109 - When the Big Bopper hit the scene, most everyone of us knew he would be a “One-Hit-Wonder.” No offense to him or his heirs, but Chantilly Lace was a cute song and not good enough to propel him to super-stardom. It is still hard to believe the three of them had to die so young.
@@goshlikkrudbahr5109 Sorry, buddy..but Buddy Holly was better and much more influential than Bobby Darin and Ricky Nelson. And Buddy Holly was better and more influential than the Beach Boys. And you mentioned the British Invasion..hell, the Beatles loved Buddy Holly and looked up to him..they even named themselves the Beatles after Buddy Holly's band, the Crickets. If not for Buddy Holly, there would be no Beatles. Buddy Holly was better and more influential than the Beatles. The Winter Dance Tour was going to get Buddy Holly back to where he wanted and needed to be but we know how that turned out. Rest in Peace to Buddy Holly.
Wow great preference.he looks and singes like buddy holly it’s like he came back to finish his tour 🎸🎙please give Ritchie valance a fender Stratocaster also 👍🤓
Kirjoitan Suomeksi.Buddy Holly.mun Idololi👍Olen monesti ajattellut, että lähtivät tuon nuoren mittarilentoon kokemattaman nuoren lentäjän,mukaan.Mun poikaTeemu Heinonen.Hän muistuttaa paljon häntä
Make your way to the Minnesota History Theatre for a "Buddy" production---all of Oct. 2022----as GOOD as we can get the repeat vibes handled with deepest respect, authenticity, and celebration---Rave On!
Is there anyone who actually saw buddy s in the late 50s went him toured England they were very lucky people to see him in real life . They are not many who did
Its just a play. Like the movie it is factually inaccurate at times. There was no orchestra at Surf Club. According to Dion there was a horn player or two for some of their songs. No singers in dresses. No jitterbuggin Buddy. But Joe B. Mauldin did lay down with that big stand up bass and Buddy stood on it! Hey its just a story. And it's only RockNRoll but I like it....!
Idk if he'd be bigger. But music would definitely have sounded different. He was trying to start his own record label if i remember right. So we might've had different bands during the 60's and 70's
