I'm always in awe of both Buddy Merrill and Neil LeVang. Much of their material was very demanding and to me, in a pressurized situation that they always seem to glide through effortlessly. Buddy seems to hint at a Charlie Christian influence on these clips. Anyway, thanks for posting and all the best - Jim
As a guitarist of 59 years, I am qualified to say: "Excellent stuff!" Love that '58/'59 Jazzmaster, too! The country had NO IDEA what they had in the pair of Merrill/LeVang. Pretty much pop music's version of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan, on the same stage at the same time, playing in the same key, in the same tempo ... otherwise known as doing a duet on the same song. Heh-heh. These were EXCELLENT guitar players ... that's a lot of notes and I never saw the kid muff a single one. LeVang either, for that matter.
Try as one might, the white Stratocaster with the black anodized pickguard was not available to the public. The gold anodized guard Jazzmaster as seen was likely a pre production guitar refitted with a rosewood neck but was initially available with the gold guard to retail buyers..
