Ray, blessings to you also, most sincerely. You are a very special and appreciated fan of Buddy Rich. Your love for B is so obvious from all the wonderful Comments you leave on RU-vid BR posts.
Like that double album from Verve said long ago, Buddy truly was "The Monster." And it holds true about him over 4 decades! In his physical prime he was monstrously incredible, and in his later years he was monstrously incredible. I listen to or watch his stuff all the way from the 50s to his death at age 69 in the 80s, and the whole thing just boggles my mind.
I’ve seen a video where one said this about drumming virtuoso Buddy Rich. He plays faster with one hand than others play with both. He was a prodigy, a true master on the skins. Totally groovable riffs!
Buddy's playing ... brilliant as usual ...not a lover ,though , of those radio king Slingerlands ...is it just me or do they sound tinney with no depth... totally unlike all the other kits he played and I don't just mean the kit on this recording it's on mostly all the recordings playing the radio kings....miss Buddy every day and a day never goes by without listening to several tracks from The World's Greatest Drummer ...thanks again Cloud View ..your catalogue of Buddy Rich stuff is Amazing .
Another wonderful post. The last time I saw B R was later in the year on his opening night at Ronnie Scotts. He opened the evening with this great chart. At that time I lived in London and over a period of 17 years I Paid money to see Buddy on 52 occasions. Happy days. I would like to thank you for all the great posts . Incidentally the greatest drum solo I saw him play was back in 1974 at the Albert Hall in London . The venue is frankly awful for the spectator but is a highly prestigious one for the performer anyhow Buddy was more than a little fired up that night and delivered a solo that I knew at the time i would never see better and that is how it turned out.
Hey Cloudview! Thought I'd seen everything on your page but somehow I missed this one. WOW! He literally never aged. Just got better and better. As always, thanks for all these greats posts. I think I read in one of your comments that you don't play much anymore. Wonder if that is still true. You had some terrific chops as I recall and a lot of Buddy's influence in your playing.
Hey! Glad you found the post. I love this audio too! Throughout his entire life, no matter how accomplished he already was, Buddy was perpetually self-motivated to improve. It was just incredible, and an integral part of his greatness. (And yes, still true that I don't play much anymore. But not to worry. I had my time, and it was great.)
