We here at Budget MTG Decks love playing constructed Magic: the Gathering! Whether it’s EDH / Commander, standard or modern, duel or multiplayer, we can’t get enough of it.
Our vision of MTG is a game which encourages strategic thinking, social interaction and above all…fun! To make this accessible to everyone we decided to lower the two largest barriers which people encounter with this game:
1: Cost of building a Magic deck.
2: Complexity of building a Magic deck.
Our mission at Budget MTG Decks is to provide full deck tech videos describing ready to play EDH / Commander and duel decks. With in depth commentary on each card and overall play style. To make sure the decks are truly budget we have limited the price of all our cards to under a dollar (with exception of the commanders). Now everyone can join the Magic: the Gathering fun!

As I usually do with these budget decks, I like to come up with a few non-budget suggestions. Firstly, Reliquary Tower and Laboratory Maniac seem like obvious choices, and Ixidor's Will seems like a really good option for a counter. Similarly, Patron Wizardcould fill in the same slot, as a really good counter ability. And I've always fount it hard to go wrong with Lighthouse Chronologist

I am currently building this deck with a few modifications. this will potentially give me two infinite damage combos, an infinite card draw, infinite mana and last but not least take all creatures. Illusionist Bracers, Tidewater Minion and Prodigal Sorcerer are some of the cards I would add in place of cards I don't have

I just watched this video AGAIN and suddenly I had the feeling of wanting to rebuild my Azami deck :D I recently spent $1,600 on a new lens so no new cards for me... But I had a lot of the ones left over from my last build and it came out great. Thanks for the inspiration guys :)

Well this one is a lot more budget oriented. I don't have cards like Snapcaster Mage anymore, which sucks. But with nearly 20 counterspells and just as many wizards it is still fun :) I just tallied up my Animar deck and it is worth somewhere around $600. I think I'd have to tear that down if I want to restore my Azami deck to its old glory :) Neither of those decks make friends though, lol.

Declaration of Naught would be amazing in this deck for 1v1 battles :D And it completely shuts down one player in a multiplayer game, especially if that player is completely dependent on their commander.

Yeah it's pretty brutal. Naturally it can still be removed with any bounce or enchantment destruction or exile spell.

Wow, this decks looks super anoying to have as an opponent. Of course you get all the fun when you play it yourself! It's also really political. It's the kind of deck, where whenever somebody plays a really big spell, everyone else is gonna turn to you and say: You're the counter-guy, do something! And of course if you do you can ask people for their favours in return. Awesome. Now all that's left on the mono-list is white. And I think a really awesome commander for you guys would be: Eight-and-a-half-tails. Would be so happy to see you build this deck :-) Awesome work as always! Keep it up. I'm still in my honeymoon phase with my Scion of the ur-dragon deck that I got according to your list. Love it, love it, love it!

You hit the nail on the head! We couldn't have described it better ourselves ;). We are currently working on a Mono white soldiers deck but we will add Eight-and-a-half tails to our list too. Oh and just out of curiosity do you have a favorite dragon to tutor for with Scion of the Ur-Dragon?

That would be the one of the two non-budget additions I did to the deck: Dragon Tyrant. I have a foil version of it since I was 12 and always wanted to include him in some deck. And this is just perfect. :-) The other card is Sarkhan Unbroken. ;-)

How about trinket mage and stoneforge masterwork? trinket mage is a wizard and you could use its enter the battlefield effect to find stoneforge masterwork or spellbook which would also be useful.

Graceful Adept might be a nice card to put in this deck since it gives you a 1/3 Wizard that also gives you no maximum hand size for only 3 mana. And it's cheap. :P

With the release of DOM came a lot of wizards, would you include any in this deck? I was wondering if the Naru Mera, Naban, and Wizards Retort that I pulled would fit in? Any other wizards from the new deck you would include?

Not really, the synergy of the deck relies on wizards not counter spells. It could still work, but would be less effective especially because you lose such a powerful draw engine.

Other nice budget cards: Vedalken Æthermage, High Tide, Rayne Academy Chancellor, Information Dealer, Psychic Trance, Inspired Sprite, Veilstone Amulet, Talrand Sky Summoner, and Stunt Double.

How many hours does it take for you to brew deck (whole process, with playtest etc)? And how do you find all these cards in such a price? :D

It takes us about two months from idea to video but exact hours are tricky as we do this next to our full time jobs and other responsibilities. Regarding the price of the cards we go to www.magiccards.info and we look at the medium price listed there for our benchmark regarding price.

I realize these aren't budget options, but would Obelisk of Urd and Door of Destinies be good fits with the Wizard tribal? Or is that not really what the deck is trying to do?

The deck does kill it's opponents while hitting them with Wizards so these cards would fit fine. It just does not need them because it exercises such control that it does not care if it takes a few more turns to do so.

How does this deck usually win games? I play a build similar to this and when I get asked what's the winning goal I don't really know what to answer and say "bounce and control". lol

Haha that's not really a win condition is it? Anyway the way this deck wins is by attacking with many 1/1 or 2/2 wizards. The reason you can do this is because you control the board so your opponent's don't have anything to block with.

I've been playing this deck for a while and its really fun but could anyone help me with some non-budget competetive upgrades? Infinite combos would be good just generally ways to be able to hold my own against decks 3-5x as expensive as this. Thanks alot!

Infinite Mana is peregrine Drake + archeomancer + exile and any return two creatures cards. Palinchron is another expensive option to replace Drake great whale is another cheap option. Gilded lotus + Untap then tap cards like freed from the real + any creature that can Untap permanents or artifacts also is infinite Mana for budget.

We tried it, but it turned out to not be relevant in this deck, we could always just discard unneeded lands and having it taking the slot of one of the wizards was just less efficient.

Have you guys considered doing let's plays with the decks your make? That would give people a chance to see how they play before deciding what one to buy? (If your worried about it cluttering up this channel with a bunch of videos you could start a new channel just for that.)

Not really, Azami is perfectly happy tapping herself as other wizards to draw cards. Paying two extra mana is almost never better than having another wizard with additional utility.

+Budget MTG Decks in my meta there are very heavy mono colored decks. The wand provides a very clean 21 flying damage commander kill backup plan

EDH is the same as Commander. If you watched tutorials on EDH you know how to build a commander deck. Picking a commander is tricky, we recommend you watch our deck techs until you find one which sounds fun to you.

It's a self imposed restriction to keep decks affordable and the cards within easy to find. Intruder Alarm is a good suggestion for anyone looking to upgrade the deck.

Half of the deck is counterspells meanwhile he tells us that our oponents won't see any of our counterspells comming, they would never expect those cards

The deck is full of ways to counter spells. But most of them are on permanents and as such our opponent knows when we can counter a spell of theirs. We do however a have a few counter spells on instants. Those they won't see coming.

Through combat. It controls the board enough that it can kill with multiple hits of small wizards.

No, I may have had a non-budget version of this deck a year and a half ago or so, and I can tell you no matter whether it's budget or not, you will have no friends lol. But it's so satisfying!! (The deck I mean, not losing all your friends, lol)

When you play the magic format called Commander (also known as EDH) one card is designated as your commander (or general) which you can always play from outside your deck.
