Your footage does indeed look amazing the sincere effort you have put in makes me wanna grab my old canon 650 d out of the storage and start making films again. thank you, sir.
I fell to the eos m + magic lantern rabbithole last summer and still here. Quite steep learning curve at the beginning for person with no history of cinematography, but I would say it was and is worth it.
@@huntno I've had the 700D for about 2 months, but I haven't had time to use it yet. I'll do some test soon to understand the differences between the M and the 700d. Also one of the most important factors is that with the 700d you can not use a speed booster or a focal reducer. Now as now, only first impressions, I like how the EOS M feels more than the 700d. But I have to do some deep test
Thanks for the video! I have had a Canon Kiss X6i/Rebel t4i/650D camera for several years and have been toying around with magic lantern RAW but had no clue about crop mood for getting better resolution and recording options beyond the basic raw settings I was using before. Until now I've only been able to record with a maximum of 2.35:1 ratio baked in and not even a 1080p resolution to shoot the 12 bit raw. But if I update the software (or enable crop mood if it's on there and I didn't see/know about it til now), I have more options for how I record footage.
Just found out about Crop Mood last week. Like yourself I've been a ML user since 2016. Card will be here today to install ML/CM and these images have me completely stoked to shoot video/Resolve workflow in the same way the 700D/LRC workflow has done for stills. Goes to show gear is not the deciding factor in great looking imagery. No excuses? Damn straight.
You are very calm and relaxing. Great video. I just got the 650D and upgraded to firmware 1.0.5. When I go to the ML site it says Crop Mood can only be used with firmware 1.0.4. I tried and it doesn't work on 1.0.4. What suggestions for me to get the older software?
I use the Crop Mood in my 7 year old Canon 700D with the Helios 55mm F2,OH it's very well capable of shooting a short film. Just the shadows during low light gets a bit noisy, any suggestion to reduce that in post will be much appreciated.
Well you should limit low light capture to 800 ISO. It's what I do. Just add more light and open up the aperture or you can use noise reduction in post like in DaVinci Resolve. But mainly I'd not go over 800 ISO.
Hello! I use the presets from Crop Mood. I usually shoot 16:9 4.2K 12 Bit although in this video some of the clips are at 4.8K in 2:35:1. I hope that answers your question 😊
I have a 5 d mark 2. I tried to shoot mlv raw several times, achieved great results in terms of colour, but the moiré that is present everywhere, and the fact that I could only write for a few seconds. What about moiré at 650 d? Is it worth changing from 5 dm2 to 650 d? This is not my main camera.
Hello. Some modes in crop mood reduce moire a lot. I think the best camera for magic lantern right now is the 5D Mark III but no crop mood with that one. If you want crop mood then get a 700D or 650D or even the EOS M. 700D and 650D are exactly the same so either one works. The M is a mirrorless camera so you will need an adapter to use EF lenses.
can you share the settings you use? my recording stops automatically so fast if I use anything higher than RAW 900p and especially if I use crop mood even though I use the EOS 650D also. I'm using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SD card so it should be fast enough.
@@TheFilmmakingChannel mine is 200MBps read with 90MBps write already. I solved the problem by lowering the SD card overclock, though I'm not fully sure if my RAW and crop mood settings are optimal yet.
Very cool by the way. Liked and subscribed. 1970s & 1980s Nikon glass with an adapter works very well on the Canon T3i. I think the T3i is the same model as the 650D.
The t3i is the year model before the 650d which was the 600d. The 650d is the t4i model. So very similar. But I don't know if magic lantern is the same for both models or not in terms of crop mood.
@@TheFilmmakingChannel thanks, this is incredible! could you share the su_uhs module? I can't seem to find a stable one. write speed drops after 1-2 seconds
