When it comes to the Focusrite, they have a kit that comes with a decent mic and headphones for beginning. And the headphones work great if you want to practice instruments quietly through an amp

Hey Kyle, been following you since a long time. One point though, unless someone is really ready to spend some good money on acoustic treatment, they should shy away from buying monitors, at least for sometime. The ATH M50x you mentioned are great and quite sufficient for someones starting years. But I would also point out that if someone is serious about engineering i.e. mixing/mastering, they should invest in monitors just for imaging purposes. Just my 2 cents!! Great Video!

Great video! I have a similar setup. Love my T7Vs. What are your thoughts about how wide the monitors should be? I’ve been struggling with honing in my equilateral triangle. Been trying to get as good a REW reading since I’ve moved to a new place and have been testing with just the monitors and desk in the room and nothing else. I’ll move my treatment in later on when I get as good a reading as I can.

Great recommendations. A follow-up on what to look for and what to be wary of when buying used equipment would be an excellent supplement to this video. Used equipment can be an absolute steal (especially when it comes to things like stands, cables, and lights), but the buyer needs to be armed with some know-how and an easy test to perform on-site if they don't want to get ripped off. Also giving them some info on what these things generally cost to repair and the difficulty curve of the job would save a lot of peoples' bacon. It's tempting to buy any old broken stuff off craigslist and try to DIY it back to health. Some things cost wayyyy more to fix than they're worth brand new. But this is also a total rabbit hole of a topic and I can understand if you wouldn't want to cover it. That's easily an entire yt channel's worth of content. Also, I'd like to throw my experience into the hat and say that the UAC-232 would be a _damn good_ interface for a beginner (currently around $180). Learning proper gain-staging is an essential skill for people who want to do live sound, but I think an extra fifty bucks to do away with gain knobs entirely is just so darn convenient that it's worth it for a total newbie's home recording rig. It's one less thing they can screw up and get frustrated over. I wish it were more ubiquitous as a feature (and cheaper), but I suppose it's gonna be a while before it comes standard on a lot of interfaces.

I'm shocked with how many fakes there are out there... that have so much time put into making them look like the real deal.

Honestly? Don’t worry about studio monitors right off the bat. They’re great for mixing/mastering, yes, but you can go without them for a bit-just get good headphones. The other thing, is not to worry about getting a super fancy interface-just get the $129 one (can’t remember the name, but mine was about that much). Behringer or PreSonus are both good starting ones. In terms of the mics, just start of with the price range of about $99 to $150. You’ll be good to start off about that range. In terms of a midi keyboard (he didn’t mention in this video), you can just go with the tried-and-true Akai Mini Mk2-about $80 to start. If you’ve got your computer/laptop (other than whatever instrument you want to record), you should get away with about $500 to $700.

I definitely understand the issue with cost these days-it’s insane! There are some things I’m thinking, “How on Earth am I going to afford that?” Hahaha. So I get you, bro.

I have audient id4 and I am using dt990 pro 250ohm with it. It goes really well, although I wanna ask, is dt990 pro 250ohm a good choice from beginning till the end of a music production?

Hey، I have a scarlett 2i2 with Audio technica At2020. I always have problems when recording، the waveform is barely noticeable in DAW and I don't get the 18db,. If I turn the gain all the the way up, I get a lot of room noise,. Do you think getting an external mic preamp would the problem? Thanks

So many DAW options. Is there one that is generally considered beginner friendly that is affordable?
@toby.f_2103
@toby.f_2103 4 месяца назад
Even though it’s not very affordable (depending on your budget) Logic Pro is a really good one to get started with, it has a very set out, almost cartoon-ish look that is very helpful already. But having different colours and brighter, more visualised tools makes the whole platform much easier to use. However the downsides are that you can only get it on an ‘Apple’ device, and it usually costs around £200 (UK). If that’s within your budget I’d definitely go for something like that, but I would definitely recommend getting used to garageband or soundtrap as they are easy to use, free and very accessible. Hope this helps, good luck on your future songwriting/producing!

Cakewalk by Bandlab has a learning curve, but is literally free. Used to go for a few hundred dollars, US, before Bandlab bought them.

FYI don’t buy a focusrite they’re being pushed out there to much but you can spend $40-$60 on an audio interface (Behringer)
