Just watched the video linked here from 2018. Do you have information on what equipment was used to produce this video? Great quality! Would love your help.
Another great video! Love this cost saving idea, we will definitely be using this in our RU-vid videos! 😁 📸 Thank you for all the amazing content you create!
Wow what a difference in sound quality! We are definitely going to try this for our videos going forward, thanks so much for the tip! Super affordable too.
Love how you say $15 microphone boom hack and advertise a $300.00 setup. Great Products and I highly recommend it. I just need to work on my click bait titles like you guys do.
oh em gee! amen! Let me tell you when I saw this video I yelled and gave glory God. Simply because for the longest I have been doing some research and trying to figure out how to boom my Rode Video Mic Pro+. I kid you not this was right on time! Like God knew I needed it and was like...."here you go." Wow. Thank you!
Definitely agree with the microphone placement. Let me explain: in high school, I was cast in the chorus for "Fiddler On The Roof". For the "Sunrise, Sunset" number, the men and women were on opposite sides of the stage. We used boom mics stationed above us to pick up the sound, due to the types of sets we were using. The women always got our blocking (stage direction) right: we always stood right under our boom mic. The men, however, got it wrong: they stood too far away from the mic. The result was we could always be heard, as we were constantly being picked up by the mic. The men, however, were rarely heard, as they didn't get the placement right.
Hey, this is off topic, but I remember seeing a vid about how tiktok is going to be one of the top social media platforms for 2020. I've seen some videos on there where the quality is insanely good, looks like it had to have been a professional camera, but do all the regular cams even have the ability to shoot 9:16?
@@ThinkMediaTV I know, I'm more like questioning if a lapel mic would produce the same results. Of course, if you already have a shotgun mic, this setup is cheaper than buying a lapel one.
This is such a helpful video. I needed one of these. I have been doing it incorrect! I sit down and leave it on top of the camera. So glad my audio is going to bring it to the next level! Thanks for this video!!
I am using the same setup as you, but I got some annoying hissing. I'm using the Rode VideoMic Pro. Do you now this problem? How can I remove the hissing? ( the soundlevel is at minimum, and the shotgun mic is at +20dB)
I enjoyed this video and had an insight. I was able to mount my rarely-used two year old MOVO VXR10 with a little ball and clamp right onto my existing desk lamp with extension arm. The desk lamp arm easily holds the 2 ounce mike (70 grams). So I have a forehead-level tiny shotgun mic now. I didn't even need the $15 stand. The sound quality really surprised me and it's a new purpose in life for my dusty MOVO.
You made a sale. I used your links and I will trust Think Media's knowledge on this after watching your channel for near 2 years, as Røde is a brand I already hold as good and go with. My sound indoors needs to be better than mobile outdoor gear. I hope this works.
This is a *awesome* idea, only negative thing about this is having someone hold it closer to your face if your out and about, but Great idea for vlogging in Studio!
Man you guys always have the best tips for creators, I'm starting with my consistency and always appreciate your information on gadgets that improves workflow and save time
Hi Nolan, what would you recommend for two subjects in the video. Like an interview. I would like to do a Shotgun Mic setup, but what if I have two subjects. Would you recommend two Shotgun Mics? So double everything?
I'm ready to buy and desperately searching for a mic I can use to shoot videos while I'm painting furniture. I'd like to use the mic with my Galaxy Note 9 phone to start off with. I like the shotgun mics because there's no cord that i have to drag around as i paint but would this type of setup be the best sound for me or is it better to have something attached to my clothing? I'll be moving around quite a bit and crawling around as I paint dressers and buffets so I really don't want to be getting tangled in a cord attached to me. I'll pretty much be filming at one end of my living room designated to filming video and shooting staged photos. I have a 10' backdrop, photography lights... now I need sound.
I'm looking at this and I'm thinking what a waste of money for me, what a pain in the butt that would be as I'm moving around, jumping around moving from being right in front of the camera to very back of the room. me personally I have to have a cordless mic. stuff like this don't do me any good. I've been told that my mic looks like something out of the 80's, but I really don't care, 😅😅😅 Cuz if it works for me that's all that matters, that's all I care about. I'm far more about functionality than I am about fashion
How does that inexpensive pyle stand hold up? I have a neewer boom pole that cost me $38 and you really have to crank it down for the boom pole to not lean downward. (not the legs tipping, but the boom pole extension part)... also, for attaching the shotgun mic, I actually like using this little 5/8 to mini ball head adapter, because it gives the shotgun a little swivel action to angle it just right. Most of my videos on my channel are recorded this way, but I have a video coming out tomorrow (I think) where the audio is really dialed in, using this technique
You -- and many, many others -- point over your left shoulders at what I imagine should be a RU-vid card. But I never see anything there. Any idea of why?
Hey I have a podcast and I wanted to know would you recommend me using this mic set up. I’ve been using a dynamic mic but I’m thinking about buying a ZVE10 and just upping my production. My only worry is that now I record the video off my phone and audio off the mic, would my camera make a separate audio file for the video if I recorded it this way? I just want the people who stream my podcast to have the best audio listening experience possible.
I purchased everything in this setup and have received a HUGE improvement in the sound quality, but the mic stand is the worst, it won't stay up any more (after about 10 uses) - no matter how much I tighten it. - I have to use tape to keep it from falling down and it has already broken my microphone twice - managed to fix it with super glue but yea the mic stand is too budget. Does anyone know of a more substantial way of booming the mic and getting around having to use a long cable? I am dreading someone walking through and bring the whole thing including my camera crashing down...
Thank you so much for this video. I started to do this just a couple weeks ago and the sound is soo much better! I do have a question - I stand and walk around my 8 ft wide backdrop in my videos - any recommendations for a setup in this type of situation ? I really haven't had any luck yet. Thanks again!
Congratulations on making 1 million subscribers in advance. I always promised myself that I would be the first to congratulate you since you were at 32000 subs a few years ago. xoxo. keep rocking on. :)
Cool I never thought About using My Boya Mic in this type of setting, I should Try this, But I use the Blue Compass as this works much better for me in my setting. Nice Video, as always AMAZING quality.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been using a boom, or a shotgun mic for my videos lately and boy, does it sound different! and I was wondering the piece you showed at the end! I have like a normal mic stand and a rode mic (not that one pro, but the one with the red cable) and I'm very happy! Thanks ThinkMedia!
Do you have a video with suggestions for external audio recording? I have a g9x which doesn't have any audio input. Just trying to figure out the best options for external audio with it. Thanks!
Hi Nolan I hope all is well and you and your family are staying safe. I have the mic extension but I keep getting a humming noise when I use it. If I put the mic on top of the camera without the extension I get clear sound. I thought it was the mic so I went and got another mic. Still same issue. So it's the extension do you have another recommendation for maybe another brand of extension that you can recommend? Ty for your great tutorials! 😊
Hey I have a question. If I wanted to record my voice and an electric guitar amp what would the best solution be? Ideally the guitar amp would be mic’d separately with its own instrument mic. How could I achieve this? I currently use the BOYA lapel mic and I record all my videos with my iPhone 11pro. No laptop.
Great idea! I was actually thinking about it last week. The only thing is that I don't know if the quality of my rode videomicro set as a boom mic could be better or worse than the boya lavalier I am currently using in the videos i shoot at home. I need to try this though.
Hey guys, I have the Deity d3 Pro and for my first video, I had it mounted about 3 ft away on my camera, nd got a fair bit of hiss in the recording. If I boomed it close to me just out of shot, do you think this would mitigate the hissing noise and give a cleaner output sound?
