@@DEAKY3GAVUEL So? Budgie predates Rush by 3 years. By the time Rush released their first album, Budgie had already released 4 albums. Their best known song, "Breadfan", was released in June 1973. So, while I agree Rush is better, the statement doesn't really have a meaning.

They wrote Shakin all over, I thought Elvis made it famous States side, but Chad Allen and the Expressions took it to the States through Canada .But for a London pub style three piece in later years, they have the real heavy rocknroll style and the guitarist Mick Green was many other guitarists mentor to his own style of simultaneous rhythm and lead work that made the band sound so full.'Dont mention it" and 'You dont own me no more' probably good tracks to start on.

And last but not least Tony Powell on drums. Do you young people out there have any idea how excellent this 3 piece hard rock band really is?. Budgie were hugely respected within the metal industry, hence so many of their songs were covered by top groups. Metallica covered a number of Budgie songs stating they were as inspiring as Black Sabbath. Indeed I saw both Budgie and Sabbath a number of times in Birmingham in the early seventies and both were top notch. To compare them to Rush is an insult to these Welsh wizzards.

And, let's face it, they had the coolest logo of any band, ever! My black Budgie tee-shirt with the parakeet in a fighter pilot's flight suit holding his helmet was a better chick magnet than five puppies in a basket. For that reason alone, I am totally indebted to this band!

+Ygor Nimoy Budgie recorded a string of brilliant studio albums in the 1970s; toying with jazz- and funk- rock, they were the tightest three-piece band I ever heard. They were also great live and in the 1970s were as good as any other band in the world. But I fear they were largely passed their best by 1980. I have never rated Rush at all, and certainly never thought of them as in the same class as Budgie. But I will listen again - maybe I'm in for a pleasant surprise ...

I thought of the criticism and abuse that was poured upon Geddy Lee early in the career of Rush for his shrill vocals. I'm certain that Burke Shelley must have been subject to similar disdain. Having said that, he is obviously immensely talented, like Lee, even if his vocals might be thought of as "an acquired taste." Budgie kills it! Great music!
