I'll always be grateful to Diggs for how he elevated our offense the last 4 years, which as Joe said was the best 4-year run of WR production in franchise history. I appreciate how great he was with kids too. But, with his 4-year contract extension about to kick in and with how weird things have been, perhaps it's best we just take our dead-cap, lessened personnel "medicine" this year and retool for 2025. And who knows? Maybe 2024 will go better than we think.
@BillsMafiaExperience
@BillsMafiaExperience 2 месяца назад
Diggs is the one who deserves his "medicine". We were too kind to him and he abandoned Josh and the Bills. Allen treated him with class and he basically blamed his shortcomings on Josh, Sean and the Bills. F*ck him and his narcissistic bullsh*t. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I hope we replace his arse with a star receiver in both the draft and one in free agency or a trade. This is addition by subtraction.

I don’t know if it was as much regression as him believing he can’t win a championship with this team. Also, his role in the offense. He wants to be featured obviously, but we couldn’t win that way. From what I've seen and heard from the other sports media outlets in western NY and nationally. Joe's take on the Diggstrade is THE definitive take on the Diggs trade. Diggs wanted out, Beane gave him what he wanted. Diggs disappeared in ALL of the Bills biggest elimination games. Period. The first two Diggs years were fabulous, he was the ultimate Bill. He helped Josh grow. His interactions with the Bills mafia was great. Sadly he slowly became the Diggs of the Viking years. The real Diggs came out. A malcontent, a disrupter. A "look at me guy". Good riddance. Diggs wore out his welcome. I trust Beane on making good on this move. Frankly I'm excited. Great job Joe!!

One benefit that hasn’t been talked about yet is Stef gone opens the playbook up. There is no pressure on Josh or the coaches to “get Diggs involved” or risk him being a frustrated diva on the sidelines distracting from the game flow and management. I think the days of him taking over a game are gone so you can’t keep having the downsides without the upsides. He might have a few very strong games left with Houston especially considering he might not need to be the number one guy.

Thx Joe. I agree the wide receiver turnover is significant and on the surface there is definitely a hole to fill. But I am also willing to give credence to the fact that there is a precedence set by teams with elite quarterbacks, exceptional TE play (eg. KC) complemented by a good, if not great receiving core. Time will tell of course but I’m really encouraged by the emergence of Shakir and Kincaid. If they take another step and you get decent production from Samuel, Knox and Cook we may not see as big a drop off as you might expect without a legit number one wide receiver.

I really hope they don’t trade a high pick for a veteran WR. You end up paying for that guy twice. 1st by giving up the pick. 2nd you end up paying free agency money for them. Get younger and cheaper please. There are some core players next year that we need to resign. We have a surplus of late picks and there are guys that haven’t panned out but a lot of that has been the QB play or other offensive shortcomings…I.e. Laviska Shenault. You can probably trade for someone like that for a 5th round pick. He’s a beast, athletic, big, powerful and affordable. It takes a village to bring him down. Loves to run over guys. Would be incredible in a 12 personnel package with Legette or Hollins. That would be an incredibly balanced attack that would be scary good both running and passing. Loved the Dallas game last year. Please give me more of that. Both of our TEs are receiving weapons as well, so four guys that can really block or catch and a back that can run or catch very well too. That’s a great offensive scheme for this team and without two of our best receivers on the field. So, a 1st on Xavier Legette and a modest trade for Shenault and this team is overflowing with skill position talent. Shame in a way as I believe there are a couple others that may develop and where do they fit in the 53?

They didn't get any additional cap space (net loss with the dead cap hit of like 3.5 million). How would they realistically be trading for any established impact WR in this scenario? Also, they have a lot of draft picks, but they're all in the last 3 rounds. They have 0 chance of moving up to get one of the top 3. Brian Thomas is raw, despite the physical upside, so trading up to get him doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Just stay at 28 and take the best available one (Legette/Franklin/Worthy/McKonkey). Then trade back into the 3rd using some of the day 3 picks and get a 2nd guy like Javon Baker or Brendan Rice. They have too many other needs to just go all in on one guy.

He has, but the top 3 are well out of their range to trade for as all of them are likely to go in the top 8-10 picks. Thomas and Mitchell aren't worth trading up very far to get because they are either really raw (Thomas) or have serious work ethic concerns (Mitchell). Give me Legette/Franklin at 20 and then trade up from our first 4th round pick into the 3rd and get a guy like Javon Baker or Brendan Rice.

However, as Joe pointed out, his performance in the Bills' elimination playoff games over the last 3 seasons has been horrendous. It was like he was barely there. Also, he seemed rather unhappy at the end of both last season and this season based on his social media communications. I'll greatly miss watching Allen throw the ball to Diggs and Diggs running free down the field. It feels like an important era in Bills' history has come to an end. 😥

Diggs loved to complain about how the Bills couldn’t win a championship…yet he routinely disappears during those playoff losses. He was completely nonexistent vs KC in ‘21…as well as vs Cinci in ‘22 and KC again in ‘23. This is a TEAM, not a “Stef Diggs highlight reel” with a guy who demands more targets than is good for the offensive flow. Plus he’s on the wrong side of 30 now with clearly declining skills. We want players who WANT to be here…not players who are more concerned with what strip clubs exist in which towns. The media loves this because they despise us, which is nothing new.

Those numbers in those season ending games were not even rookie worthy. I’m OK with it trust being to get something in place don’t want to trade up to 10 or higher too expensive.

The great thing is that we still have Knox and Kincaid. They can still open up the middle of the field and create mismatches. It hurts to lose Diggs, he was a real no.1.. but I think we'll be just fine. Ya gotta keep the optimism and believe that the front office knows what they're doing. I'll be honest, wish it was a 2024 second rounder instead. But let's be real Diggs has not been good when he's been needed the most. In the second half of pretty much every year he's fallen off. And in the Playoffs he's never good. He's barely even an average receiver in the playoffs. IMO Diggs has been the biggest reason the Bills haven't won a Superbowl yet. If he could of just been an above average receiver in one of the Chiefs playoff games, the Bills win that game. But that's never what actually happened. And I believe the media has one thing very wrong. Which is the idea that Diggs makes Josh good. In 2020 and 2021 I would agree. But in ever since the 2021 playoffs I believe Diggs has actually held this team back. And what I mean is that Allen would over target Diggs, when he wasn't always the actual best option. But Allen knew he had to get him the ball. Plus Diggs is 30 now, with allot, and I mean allot, of wear and tear. He Cleary wasn't the same guy the second half of last year, no matter what excuses people made for him. He dropped allot of passes, and didn't work as hard on his routes. So when you consider what he is NOW, the Bills actually got more then they probably should of. And I won't be shocked when they use that pick to get trade up this year. I will say this now. They do need another receiver. They should at least try to go after Justin Jefferson, this 2nd rounder would help with that. Maybe they could give up our 1st this year, the 2nd next year, and a later round swap or 2, to make that happen. Anyways while I really appreciate Diggs and the records he set, and the new standard he set for our team, this is addition by subtraction. And I have no issue with this move.

I have confidence in Brandon Beane. He is one of the best GMs in football and I am confident that he has a plan for replacing Diggs with someone who can contribute now and further down the road. I hate the $31M cap hit but I think it was time for Diggs to move on. He did not seem like his head was in it the last half of the 2023 season.

Good afternoon Joe. Joe the Bills should stay where they are at or trade back and take Mitchell, Leggette, and some other receivers. The national media acts like Diggs through the ball to himself. I think the Diggs trade began the second Curtis Samuel was signed. Joe this the best outcome for Diggs and The Bills. Joe this clears away all the bad energy between Diggs and the Bills.

Yeah but bills have to eat 31 million dead cap, also had bills waited June 1, would only had about 9 million to eat this season, then they only got a second rounder, something personal had to have been going on between diggs and the organization for them to pay such a hefty price by trading him, sounds a little like the Russell Wilson thing

Feel like diva energy is gone… we went out like an 6-0 winning streak at the end of the year last year without diggs let’s say….. draft legget or Mitchell. BOOOM our receiving options arnt to bad. Samuel, Kincaid, hollins, shakir, cook, draft pick, shorter ? I wouldn’t even mind Coleman I know people are down on him but I feel like he has some good swagger/confidence to him that’ll help at the next level. And his gauntlet drill at the combine was 👌👌👌

I always wish players well when they inevitably part. And I really like Diggs. But I feel like he forced a trade to an up-and-coming team instead of doing the right thing. And at least for right now, I can't support that. Maybe that will soften by the time the season starts. But this just feels like something that didn't need to happen if he could have just moved past whatever feelings he had and just played ball. You don't have to be besties with all your teammates and management to win. Look at the Patriot's Apple TV documentary. And the compensation that the Bills are getting back and the cap hit tell me that this was probably not their idea.

@peterwilson4865

How is this bad business? What would you expect to get for a 31 year old expensive diva WR? They got a likely top 40 pick in next year's draft and gave up a couple day 3 picks. It opens up 20 million in real cap space next year that could easily bring 2-3 legitimate positional starters via free agency in 2025. 31 million in dead cap was coming regardless of when they traded him. They can take a guy like Legette/Franklin/Mitchell at 28 and trade back into the 3rd for another WR like Javon Baker or Brendan Rice for the double dip and still end up with a better overall offense than what they had currently before the trade. He hasn't done dick in the playoffs over his time in Buffalo and has faded badly the past 2 years in the 2nd half of the reg season. Good move in the long run.

Idk Joe, I can definitely make an argument that we are better without diggs. One would be the likes of Kincaid, Knox, Shakira, cook, and Samuel will all be playmakers, without consideration of our drafted wrs. I can argue the crew I named will be better without diggs getting force fed targets when Josh should only be throwing to play design or whoever is open and not be locked in on 1 guy. And the crew I mentioned all know how to get into zone holes, or separation vs man. And it feels up Joe Brady from being worried about diggs getting upset and factoring that into play design and play calls. Just food for thought.
