Buffy Sainte- Marie has been a gift to me for over 40 plus years. I found her as a teen and she opened my eyes! Infinite blessings of gratitude for the gift ...my teacher/healer.
Yes, but she lived with us all of her life. She AND her music are a part of us. Have you heard her music? Please look into my short film. It is quite revealing, and it highlights some of her songs. Search on uTube or directly on my channel here, _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_ (Click on the rainbow-rabbit icon). The film is called: "Buffy Sainte-Marie: The lie that was never told." I guarantee you, the movie is a whopper.
What a Wonderful Woman! Wonderful Real, Raw, Genious, Iconic. I am devouring Her videos and Words... Her Truth... omg... Thank You BUFFY for Your example.❤️
Truth always hard to hear spoken so clearly. Many are listening, have listened a lifetime, many are waking up, many are making their voices heard and it's thanks to people such as Buffy so huge thanks for following your heart a lifetime and helping others find their hearts too.
This speech bring it into focus, I almost cry at these words. What we are missing from our present culture and politician and religious conversation is guts and truth. It is not accident that I came to this powerful speech this night. Bravo - what a warrior!
Hello, friends. Mescalero Apache Reservation here in Southern, New Mexico. I made a short film about Buffy after recording one of her songs in our big stone church in Mescalero. Ite also featured the Apache Christ icon. The crazy thing is that the day a aired my film, the huge, 8-foot painting was stolen. It's a long story, but the incident seemed to confirm that I was going in the right direction with my film. The film also highlights some of her music in the score, and answers many questions about identity, commercialism, and the sacred vs the profane in music. Please the film here at _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_ channel. The title is: "Buffy Sainte-Marie: The lie that was never told."
Elon Musk is for direct democraty and making short and comprehensble laws with a sunset expiration date!!...at least, that's the way he sees it for when we get to Mars!!...
She is brilliant and wise, OMG! I pray that there are more than a few listening! I have so been there and read a number of the boos she listed. I have been on the committee of the First Nations Film Festival in Chicago for many years, and been a friend of the American Indian Center in Chicago, I have studied many books and material about the history and culture of the First Nations. I am still so totally ignorant. May Creator help us heed this great woman warrior's words.
well even if they boo her they were hearing and listened. The words are now a part of them. She is the first person that verbalized my intention with my children. loving music myself I made instruments available for them to grow a relationship with. There is a peace that comes when I find another person would get me.
So interesting. My parents were school teachers on the Navajo reservation. My parents were too busy with their own lives, but the Navajo people took me in as one of them. They taught me to love and really accept people as they are without judgement. I still see white faces as foreigners and brown faces as family. I am a Navajo inside, but white outside. What a blessing from God to be raised by the tribe.
Buffy Sainte-Marie presents the audience her reading list, at min. 30: 1. Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee - Dee Brown; 2. Indian Givers - Jack Weatherford; 3. The Female Brain - Louann Brizendine; 4. The End Of War - John Horgan.
So grateful for all Buffy Sainte-Marie has sensitively and generously "cooked up" and served us over so many years. A gentle, humorous, incisive, courageous, educated, compassionate, timeless and inspiring wake up call. And dang her, she says not to put her on a pedestal, but to go out and cook up a good meal ourselves!!
@@melikemusic100 That is sweet of you to let me know. Forgot that I wrote that. She is so my number one first heroine! ..and has been so since the 70's.
Thank you Buffy Sainte-Marie, I am aware through my life-experience in the winter of 2000,camping,mind you I was the only one at hardy Island between Vancouver and Vancouver Island,I visited a nearby native Indian village,to visit the museum but it was closed, I noticed a woman crying so I asked if she was alright and than I heard the story of this village, where native children were taken from their parents to a missionary school where all children were sexually, physical and mentaly, completely stripped from their Identity, you can already quess what happened when those children became parents themself, nobody is aware of what really happened then and now, in 2004 I quit my job and became a bear care-taker, a natural shelter for bear cubs in Kuterevo, Croatia near Velebit mountains, where most Native Indian films were made, I volunteered for 7 á 8 years to do something in return for this beautifull animal and there are many life lessons for human life through observing their natural behaviour, thank you for sharing the truth through your love for all life, Is there something I can do to help? Enjoy a beautifull new day🙏❤✌🌞🌝🐻🌈🤗🌅
What a wonderful, positive human being. Not to mention her massive gift of creativity. A treasure. What she says is true. Just like abused kids often grow up to be abusers of people or substances, people who have come from abusive political situations also tend to bring the internalized violence with them. Hate the violence and the injustice, not the people. They need to be set free from what has distorted their nature. My two favourite Buffy tunes: "Cod'ine" and "My Country 'Tis of Thy People You're Dying". I was a teenager when I hear the second one, and I was riveted to the spot. The words went through me like electricity. Heartbreaking and galvanizing. I think it's time that Canadian schools put Indigenous/Native Studies in their core curricula. It was recognized in the late 60's that French ought to be studied by every Canadian in the interest of national unity. There can be no deep national unity without a thorough knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous reality and history. My own experience of non-Indigenous young people in Canada is that they are very receptive to Indigenous values, and appalled and angry at the history of abuse of Indigenous peoples. They want justice for everyone. Young people are wonderful.
I am Lakota. I like Buffy's music - but I strongly disagree with her "message". Native Americans also had slaves - were war like people - and bitched about how worse everyone else was. It's time for people to grpw the fuck up and get real. The problem with America is NOT specific ethic groups ... but it is the divisions caused by ethic groups. America needs to come together AS Americans and STOP being DIVISIVE. The way to speak for everyone is to speak for everyone; Buffy focuses a lot on herself. MPO
Interesting. I am in the U.S. I am just finding out about Buffy through a friend on-line yes....in Europe. Thank goodness for social networking. I am sharing this as far and wide as I can. Thank you Buffy for inspiring me!
Anthony Hagarty mentioned Buffy in an interview. Since a few weeks I know her name, listening her music, hearing a "lesson" like this , I feel less alone. Living in North West Europe ( Holland) where nationalists want "us" te be proud again about our history and colonialistic background, I often asked them to think about the "blood on our boots". Nothing to be proud about. Their reaction is mostly like ;" what natives have to do with this discusion"? Or: "Well, thats so long ago, why always involving natives or aboriginals in this"? We'd no history education, it was just a shameless story about our great navigation and developing "new" country's. Indians, aboriginals, natives, black people were and still are put down as wild people, heathens and stupid. It's never to late to change minds by Buffy and others.
I found Buffy Sainte Marie thanks to ditching satellite and cable, picking up much never seen commonly, amongst which is KBTC Tacoma's Over The Air side channel FNX (First Nation Network) and Indian Country Today news, which plays her song "You Got To Run (Spirit Of The Wind)". Hearing it, I I dug more, and I saw this video, and I am gobsmacked about her power and presence and obvious lifelong work, intelligence, and grasp of the world. I am highly impressed by her grasp of history and wish I could have been a member of her tribe!
Buffy and her band played at the Millennium Stage at Kennedy Center a couple years ago, amazing. She continues to be a leader and voice in a world so needy for leadership and voice.
Just be you Buffy as an Allie. Why lie? You're an Allie to us Indigenous. That doesn't make you Indigenous. You've misrepresented yourself as an Indigenous Artist. It's okay to be non Indigenous Buffy as you are. Double life yes
Buffy Sainte-Marie on life and living in the spirit. This is a "MUST WATCH" speaking engagement by Buffy Sainte-Marie , A fantastic talk on Native and Human Rights, the music business, blacklisting, corruption in politics... and everything else that makes the world what it has become!
Buffy reminding me again why she's one of my heroes! It takes me a lifetime to collect these notions, and hours to convey them; she sums em up in a few sentences.
Buffy Sainte Marie is one of the most absolutely beautiful spirits it has ever been my privilege to meet. A warmer and wiser soul probably doesn't exist.
"It doesn't take a lot of figurin' out" - I wish those in the audience would have put their computer phones away and use them later to watch this video. If I have had the privilege to be there would be there to watch and to listen and to understand this lady.
Hopefully, but not unless she has or does accept Jesus as the Lord and Savior of her soul. No Jesus is not the white man's God. He was a Hebrew, and He is the God of all people who love Him. He had nothing to do with genocide of our People.
Bad leadership causes humans wherever bad leadership is to kill people, to be ruthless, to excuse ourselves to be easily offended. Bad leadership allows those who's Spirit is already dying to completely dispatch their Spirit and become fully human (Being human is not a compliment) when we say I am only human, we use it as an excuse for saying I am fully flawed. We were not created to become fully human. We were created to overcome humanness and awaken our Spirit and become who we really are. We are an eternal living Spirit learning to be ourselves in spite of what this temporal creation produces. This creation was created to throw the Spirit (that lives inside this temporal avatar) all kinds of challenges so that the spirit can become an expert at behaving like it did in eternity. So that our true selves can with practice produce patience, kindness, charity, love etc... no matter what is being thrown at him or her.
This is the greatest talk I have ever heard . Buffy never lets herself drift too far into the negative, she always ends her thoughts and observations with a loving and positive spirit. I learned a lot from this . God bless
I was shocked to learn recently that Ms. Ste.-Marie’s music was actually banned from the airwaves during the Vietnam War. Another example of false freedom of speech in the USA (I may have heard her on WBAI.... but maybe not). I did see her at the Schaeffer Beer sponsored concert at the Wollman Rink in Central Park, though & I remember the skirt she wore.
I grew up in Denver, CO in the 1970's. My parents brought home music from all people's, including Buffy Sainte Marie. I first heard her at age five. Totally magical! And so many more.
@@mmasterton6527 I just saw the CBC vid. Very surprised, but I need to research native traditions which allow white people into the tribe.... "Little Big man" seems to be an example, but not sure. thanks
Buffy is a true inspiration to me. I love what she spoke about. I feel that her and I am a sister in her beliefs. I am not Indigenous but I read alot of their stories that interest me. I have read her biography as well as Joan Baez' biographies. Both are most interesting reads. Thank you Buffy Sainte Marie for your inspiration that have affected me. You are one awesome woman. Love from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦❤
thank you for hear he Talk, great! you write: 'Her music... frightened LBJ and Nixon, both of whom silenced her in the U.S.' actually am reading THE EXPLOSION OF DEFERRED DREAMS Mat Callahan, even he did not recognice, that Buffy was from '80 to '96 Mother of her Son and Appleuser... Great woman. (have a look in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HRUbRZcMbxs.html)
Buffy is a huge heart and a massive talent. I met her 57 years ago when she came to London to sing at the Albert hall and she only gets better with age. As she says: it is up to us. The choices are there!
She is my idol, for years...i.e. 60's forward. She was not in U.S.A. for awhile... She is vibration personified. Love her. My files will be expunged per court order. (Right AT)
