Kind of, but I used to also work in the hollywood music industry, Christophe was the hot composer of the time, he also won at least one award for his scores on Buffy.
Passion…it lies in all of us. Sleeping, waiting, and though unwanted, unbidden, it will stir, open its jaws, and howl. It speaks to us, guides us...passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments; the joy of love, the clarity of hatred, and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we’d truly know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank...without passion, we’d truly be dead."
About Jenny's death: The thing that hurts me the most is the knowledge that she died knowing that the people she cared about (especially Giles) were angry with her. She probably felt that they all hated her. She never got to experience closure and forgiveness. That breaks my heart. :(
@@Keffinated duuuuuuuuuuuuuuudddeeee HEAD CANON ACCEPTED This is now the official version forever. Thank you. it totally makes sense, too. they never did explain the sudden change in Willow and it definitely looked like something took over. Even in the EvilWillow arc, the magicks didn't cause that kind of sudden change, so i don't think it was the spell. Jenny was a powerful technowiccan daughter of gypsies. if anyone could've caused it, you're absolutely right, who else would it have been if not the spirit of the woman whose last desire was to complete the curse? ...and through that, earn her forgiveness. Gah. Thank you again!
@@Keffinated I just want to imagine Jenny's ghost, fighting against all kinds of odds in the netherworld, fighting even against her clan ancestors, rescuing his soul, and running, running back to the border of life and death, hearing little Willow struggling, and then stepping over, taking over, and completing her final mission... then finally, knowing she can rest, in peace. RIP Ms. Calendar
Finished season 2 with my kid last week and have had the tunes from Passion and Becoming in my head since. Still one of the most touching and soul-crushing season finales of all time for me. Dang, I miss this show.
How did they create such music to accompany a scene and story so well????????? I have never heard music in a show that compares to Buffy. Especially the love and tragedy music. It is beyond sad, haunting, soul tearingly beautiful.
Joss once said that Cristophe actually created many of the scenes in the show with his music. That he, the director, would create entire scenes around his music. So it makes sense that they fit so well.
Have you heard the opening song for Angels series ? Its a masterpiece , it tells you the story of who Angel's character is without the need for words just the melody , I find that to be true of so many songs from Buffy . Every piece is truly a masterpiece
"Passion..... is the source of our finest moments the joy of love, the clarity of hatred, and the ecstasy of grief" "If we could live without passion maybe we'd know some kind of peace...... but we'd be hollow"........
Even though I love all of these, I think Willow and Kennedy’s theme might be my favorite (for now), and maybe that’s because not much of it has been released! I loved hearing how Buffy and Angel’s various themes sound similar in this video. Thanks for uploading this!
just binged it on prime. had never seen Angel and figured i'd give it a shot. realized the eps line up with BTVS S4 and now i'm binging both in tandem. surprisingly wonderful show for a 90's bit about a vampire-fighting cheerleader.
@@JhadeSagrav it is a brilliant show yep, I still think it holds up really well. Just imagine how groundbreaking it was back then then, there was nothing like it. Yes there are a few episode overlaps in btvs season 4 and Angel. I was also late to Angel, despite starting to watch btvs in 1997 I only watched Angel for the first time in 2011. I watched it on its own and then again a few years ago intertwined with buffy. It's really good watching them the latter way.
Jenny's death was one of the more painful moments in the show. It ruined a lot of relationships going forward. Nearly as painful as when Willow bullied everyone into bring Buffy back from the dead. Without digging her up first.
I still hear “I felt your heart beat” to Buffy and Angel’s theme. I am a spuffy shipper ultimately but I still see the beauty in Bangel, esp with this music ❤
17 years ago we met and fell madly in love although both our families were against it. We went through hell but we tried. We were then apart for years in order to keep our duties to our parents first. You still live in my heart, you always will and always have. Life has raised us and we grow and grieve, learn and cherish but 1 thing hasn't changed and that's our heart. Why are people so naive and can not understand or accept the fact that 1 does not rule his/her heart. The heart rules us. Passion. Hope.
Spuffys romance theme is incredibly epic, hopeful and revealing compared to the tragedy in bangels one. Both are beautiful. I'm certain spike was her soulmate and the crux of the spuffy theme where she literally realises this as she clasps his hand, souls touching, bursting into flame (twin flames maybe as well) etc. Its incredibly beautiful. 24:23 is the point she knows/realises he's her soulmate. Its realisation music. She then says "I love you" in this moment. Slight sadness plays as he doesn't believe her.
The hollowness in the Bangle theme is so sad especially considering Angel was gone and after this moment the two of them wouldn't fully recover their relationship anymore. Breaks my heart still 20 years later. Buffy and Angel's love theme (Close Your Eyes) will always be my favourite despite all of them being so damn good.
1998-2000's was a time when a 200 years old guy who truly loved a 17 years teenager was not considered as pedophilia . one of the best tv show I have seen .
As a kid I only saw tiny moments of Buffy, and always remembered them. Angel giving Buffy the ring on the dock, them spending the night together and losing his soul, when she sees him back at his apartment, when she confronts them in the mall, and when she kills him seconds after his soul is restored. The score of 'close your eyes' has always stuck with me, so when I Buffy was on Disney+ I decided to watch not from the beginning properly for the first time. Now being an adult and fully understanding the (fictional) situation...it was so much more heartbreaking. Just hearing their theme all over again, and getting to experience it this time without any missing pieces...masterful, truly masterful
Very beautiful, loved this. The only thing is that you forgot the Buffy and Angel one from when he spent the night with Buffy at her mother's grave in season 5. It would be wonderful if you could include that as well, very beautiful and haunting. :)
What they had and felt was felt through millions of others through out the world, those that each have there own passion with a person & there own story. This has touched so many because so many relate to it. It is possible to love with this depth regardless of if you recieve it back or not. It hurts.
I love all the different themes. But as much as I like the Buffy and Angel Theme, I think my very favorite is the Spike and Buffy theme. Spike loved Buffy enough to fight for his soul and he won it back so he could be a better man for her. Angel although he was a good guy, had his soul jammed back into him. It wasn't for love of anyone or anything, it was just a curse. I think Christopher Beck is a great composer and he did a excellent job for the show.
This hurts so much. I love him on a soul level, something I just can't escape. I wouldn't even if I could. To love someone this much is a blessing as well as a curse. I'll see you again my love, my heart and soul.😭
Only last one is beautiful for me. It makes me shed a tear. It is not just some background music like most of it. It has a meaning, a message, tension, care, tragedy. The quality of this single theme is better than some seasons actually.
I think Willow and Tara’s theme plays in the Gift and a couple of other s5/6 episodes as well, but I can’t remember. Great vid btw 👍🏼 [EDIT]: Willow and Tara’s theme plays during Family, Tough Love, and The Gift :)
wouldn't say its tragic. Its a lot more hopeful than Close Your Eyes. Buffy literally realises spike is her soulmate at 24:23 in chosen. Hands bursting into flame, souls touching. She realises she loves him when she realises he is her soulmate yeah its a bit late but they end up together in the comics anyway lol.
thank you, Buffy Spike theme touches me the most. Why didn't they make this story happy....he was the one loving her unquestionably and unconditionally. he got his soul for her...
Didn't Angel leave Buffy out of unconditional love so she could have a normal boyfriend? And give up being human to save Buffy's life also, another selfless act of love on his part?
Unconditional... He loved her selfishly. He lusted for her, season 6 was all him realising he could physically dominate her since he was able to hurt her, and how she was so messed up she didn't really want it, but wanted the physical connection and was so confused by her feelings... Spike loved in a soulless way. Only in season 7 was he able to understand unconditional love means you don't always get what you want
@MadnessInSerenity It's ironic how the love between Spike and Dru was much more pure and also much healthier than whatever there was between him and Buffy.
Ver a esos personajes juntos me remueve entero.
Here is another observation about Giles and love. When he was a young Ripper he was an asshole. But all the Ripper moments in his adulthood are there when he needs to protect the people he loves. He never reveals his Ripper side to the gang directly. It only comes out behind closed doors to protect them.
Where did you get these actual songs? I'm trying to find official copies, can't seem to find on Spotify. Especially the one played at Minute 5 in this video
Remembering Jenny will always be such a tug on my heart. It was the first piece of music I wanted to buy and it sparked my love for scores and soundtracks so much. Such a heart-breaking theme but so beautiful
Thank you very much for assembling this great medley. You wouldn't expect a show about a Vampire Slayer, demons, etc. to have such heart-breakingly beautiful music. It adds a lot of depth, class and awe to an already great show. Also, thanks for everything you put in the "Description." I really appreciate the time stamps, chapters and being able to sync the videos in time. Many thanks!
I actually like Buffy and Riley's theme the best. It's melancholy and it's way more adult than the sickly sweet Buffy/Angel theme (which did suit Buffy and Angel at the time, given Buffy's age and her idealized vision of romance).
Late to the party with Buffy. On Season 4 now (Hush). I know this post is 2 years old now, but wanted to whole heartedly agree with you. I can't get it out of my head.
Hearing the first song I can just picture that floppy disk falling between the desks and 10 year old me’s heart sinking. That episode aired in February and we had to wait until May for that damn disk to be discovered! 🥲
